@tjbollman1 American half-and-half is equivalent to British single cream and American Heavy cream is equivalent to British Heavy cream. Also I am not sure where you live in the USA but I found Devonshire clotted cream both at Krogers and Meijers in the imports isle. There is nothing like fresh British clotted cream and I have been on the look out for an American substitute and will let you know when I find it. :)
@Heliantheae08 Thank you VERY MUCH for taking the time to share this information with me! I know there is no real comparison between the dairy prfoducts of the two countires, the Britts just have better cows, haha. Thanks again for your kindness.
@tjbollman1 I agree British cows are just better not to mention they do not ultra pasturize everything to death over there too. I found this recipe for clotted cream at cupcakeproject. com, then look up her clotted cream recipe It looks pretty easy. I am going to try and make it this weekend.
@Heliantheae08 Thanks so much! I don't know if you have ever tired to 'duplicate' Devonshire Cream, but if you beat in a little cream cheese it does have a similar taste. (I love how we have 'recipes for stuff like Creme Frais, and theirs come right out of the cow that way). LOL!
I haven’t seen an easy to buy alternative of clotted cream. However I did find a recipe claiming to be a good substitute. I have not tried the recipe myself. If anyone else has trouble finding clotted cream I have pasted the measurements below.
Put ingredients in a large bowl and beat until the mixture holds its shape.
Hi matey, I tried your recipe at 4am Australian time this morning (couldn't sleep) made your batch but then did another batch the same but simply added 2 tablespoons of dried mixed herbs..instant savoury Scones. brilliant, than's for your wonderful recipe :-)
incredible. those scones look amazing. i once bought some from a grocery store, abysmal compared to yours. so decadent too with all the toppings. what's clotted cream, looks a little like butter.
You can´t beat a home made scone, nice fresh and warm :)
Clotted cream is like a thick cream more than butter and with the jam a perfect combination. Thanks for your lovely comms and if you decide to make them I hope you enjoy.
Clotted cream is a thick cream made by indirectly heating full-cream cow's milk using steam or a water bath and then leaving it in shallow pans to cool slowly. During this time, the cream content rises to the surface and forms 'clots' or 'clouts'.
It forms an essential part of a cream tea and the OriginalNakedChef´s scones :))
Those look so good!! I have seen other videos on Scones where the "cook" mixed the dough, then kneaded it!! You, my friend, are one of the few who actually paid attention in cooking class where they say NOT to over mix the dough!! Your a fantastic chef, and I love watching you cook!! Thank you!!

Put ingredients in a large bowl and beat until the mixture holds its shape.

Great comment!
At least cooking at 4am + means that by the time everyone wakes up they can all eat nice fresh scones.
Adding current or raisins is another version you could try next time you can't sleep.
Good to hear from you and thanks for the sub & tip!
