Thanks for these amazing videos, but I wanted to to know what were the camera setings on the pics you took of brenda? also have they in any way been retouched? just because they look too good.
So is it possible to get your model razor sharp, or is there always going to be some element of blur? When I try doing this, the movement that happens before the flash at the rear curtain shows u in the photo, which you mentioned and said we could get away with...
I dont get how rear c and front c differs when shooting portraait. how is it different placing frozen subject on blurry vs placing blurry subject o nfrozen. frozen one will be the dominant one in either case.
I'm a photography student but I find myself looking for your videos for every assignment I have since you seem to be able to explain things in a way that is easy to grasp. Thank you so much :D
HI, i want to buy a lense for my dslr but not sure which one i should buy so that i can do different things with the same lense... would you please give me some advice
@ahlincoln you always would want to invest on the fast 2.8 lenses. If your looking for an all around cheap lens you can get a Tamron 17-50 2.8 it will allow you to shoot from wide landscapes to cool portraits and the 2nd lens that you may want to have is the sigma 70-200 2.8 this will allow you to take cool far portraits, macro, wild life and sports. Both are also great for night photography and is very versitile. hope this helps! =)
@jsc974 You're doing everything right. The first flash happens before the shutter opens. It's called the pre-flash and it's used to meter the light from the flash. It's perfectly normal.
@snapfactory YOU ARE A GENIUS! you've just put my mind at ease with this, i'd been using 2nd sync but the flash that fired before was so confusing too me. so in essence, is that split second of exposure "ignored" by the camera as such and once the flash is over, then the photo begins, if you get me?
@championssportsbar look into a lens with aperture of 1.8 or less and shoot at about 1/50sec at 800 or 1600iso. i bought a nikon 35mm 1.8 received great night pictures without flash.
The flash that fires at the beginning of the exposure is for metering. It is called monitor pre-flash and happens after the mirror comes up, but before the shutter opens. The flash that fires at the end of the exposure is to make the image.
Is there a way I can do rear or second curtain sync with strobes?

Hey Mark, i've tried using second curtain sync, but in Tv mode, but for some reason the flash fires twice, once at the beginning and then at the end.
Am I doing something wrong?

Good stuff, Mark. But, how do you setup rear/2nd curtain sync when using PocketWizards? Do you have to hook them up to your laptop and program them?

Mark, a couple of points here. In canon gear we can set the camera 5D into rear sync too....did you know that?
1-So we just do it on the flash only? not on camera? or on both?
2-whats the difference from doing in in my camera and not in the flash? or on both?
thank you
