Death. In the Mayo Clinic article, the staff warns, "A risk of death has been associated with gastric bypass surgery. It has generally been reported to be one death per 50 surgeries
I've lost 230 pounds since my surgery. I've also gotten rid of diabetes, hypertension and all that crap. Before I had my surgery, this was one of the most informative videos I watched.
I have so much respect for this guy. I just had my procedure 6 days ago and I wish that the staff that I worked with had empathy training....what a difference that would have made. So far so good tho>
I was diagnosed with high blood pressure last August and was having great difficulty getting it lowered. Searching the net I came upon Levodyn and decided to try it. I started out taking two tablets twice a day, and now I take one tablet twice a day a little before my lunch and dinner. With the added help of diet and exercise I am delighted that my blood pressure has come down dramatically. At it's worst it was in the 180/90 range but today it is 123/72.
My diet used to be real bad pizza and burgers mostly, so I changed it. For awhile I tried eating just cereal and salad, but that got boring and tasted bad. I now take Sterolyn, and am eating better while taking this supplement. I feel better too.
I had Lap. RNY Gastric Bypass by Dr. Wittgrove on 11/13/2006 and today am a living example perfect health. I went from 313 lbs. to 125 lbs. I'm 5'7" with measurements of 37-28-35.5 and I'm almost 47 years old! I've been obese and morbidly obese since the age of 8 years old. My only regret is not having this surgical option available sooner.
It took me less than 1 1/2 years to get to my current weight. I used an indoor cycle and walked. When I felt comfortable enough to join a gym... I joined my local Park and Rec. Center where they have a gym for $10 per year. I used the treadmill, recumbent cycle, elliptical, two arm machines and seated bench press machine. Slow and steady won the race.
I currently go to the gym 3 days a week and walk at least 2 days a week. I have no trouble maintaining now.
If you want to lose pure body fat it could take about 6 to 7 months. The healthy amount of weight to lose a week and not have it easily come back would be 1 to 2 pounds. You would need to change your diet and atleast walk/run for about 25 minutes 2 to 3 times a week. I would recommend a gym since it provides various machines and equipment to help you from getting bored with the same ole thing week in and out. Trainers are also great, and joining a class is also a way to keep it fun.
Your 160 and want to lose 33 pounds, your on the wrong pag. Most of these people need to lose 150 to 200 pounds and more. Thank your lucky stars its only 30 (2 stone) pounds thats nothing.
I would sure like to talk to this guy. My surgery was a failer, I have horrific digestion issues, nutrition issues too and I gained back 100 of the 170 I lost. I had my surgery in 93'.

Get real. If you eat too much and don't excercise you will gain weight. Stop trying to make being overweight a medical disese. It's a lifestyle CHOICE - poor diet, not enough physical activity.
what sours me is that obesity is completely and utterly preventable! there is no condition that generates fat, if you can name one then contact some sort of medical journal; people with Prada-Willi syndrome is not an exception. without intake of largely excessive amounts of food, you cannot become obese, simple as. what is key to tackling this issue is education, especially in the young. food needs to be viewed differently and a healthy and active lifestyle is absolutely key
Why does it sour you swanscoe. I had a gastric band because I am addicted to food...pure and simple. I am reasonably active, I am a carer a mother and work for my husband. I lost nearly 6 stone but because of problems with the band and my own problem have put 2 back on. I go swimming 3 times a week and do salsa classes, but still people have a go. if i was a druggie or alcoholic people would fall over to help me. You can live your life without those but not food. we need help not critisism.
i apologise if i caused offense, that was not my intention. my point was that education in the young is key and that measures should most definately be put in place to aid those trying to lose weight, and indeed those who already have to help them maintain their healthier weight. i agree criticism gets you nowhere, however it is the way people are which is deeply unfortunate.
however i am still of the opinion that it is completely preventable, no question, as i said, no condition generates fat
OK. hypothyroidism, cushing's syndrome, and an over production of normal flora in the intestinal tract, depression, some medications such a antihypertensives, anitepeleptic, and corticosteroids can do it too. Like I said look it up there is even more. I'm a RN and not overweight, I have just studied many disease processes and have had morbid obese patients and once thought like you. But these people have an obsession sickness usually and both are medical conditions. But exercise and diet is good
none of those are bacteria. Hypothyroidism and the others you mentioned do not 'generate' fat, by 'generate' i mean create fat without excessive ingestion, if you were on the medications you mentioned you can prevent excessive weight-gain by altering your diet
i am terrified of dieing i am type 2 and have very high blood pressure i have dieted all my life and now my body is wearing down i am going to die i need help but i cant afford the surgery i am 130 some odd pounds over wight my triglyserides are 1092 down from 2200 i am trying to control all my problems does anyone know what i can do?
I know where u're coming from Kribaby76, as I too have a similar amount to lose but I have to agree with Diablos. It's very important to STOP eating salty foods. U DON'T have to eat Less to lose weight. Less calories doesn't equal less food. Eating more WHOLE FOODS & less process foods means U can eat like 10 plums for 1 chocolate bar. U can eat MORE when u cut out the processed foods. I know it's really hard giving up the foods that u love but it does works, I've already lost 50 lbs doing this.
don't lose your desire to get healthier, that is going to be key to your weight-loss, i agree with bikBBW, cutting out processed foods and those high in saturated fats is true, another key is exercise. if you don't like the idea of going to the gym then don't, walking is ideal in this case. start slow. don't try and go full pelt initially, go walking with friends and make it FUN!! picture yourself as you want to be and you can do it, everyone can if they put the effort in. best of luck my friend
Very good and enlightening video. Dr. Wittgrove is compassionate and edifying when it comes to misperceptions about weight issues and the accompanying social and economic prejudice.
It is perfectly okay to work out but if your skin is so stretched there is no way in hell that you can 'prevent' skin hanging. The surgery only changes your eating habits nothing else is affected
A lot of morbidly obese people have so much excess skin after losing weight, that it has to be surgically removed. Exercising will not make your skin tighten, the elastin is damaged in the skin and that is what causes it to be so stretched and hanging down.
im 28 years old i have type one diabetes and im schedule to get the surgery done on april 9 2008 this video really help me im really happy that im getting done my insurance is paying 4 it and im going to get healthy im gonna b there 4 my kids.

For Amirr84 :
First of all, excuse my english (i'm French).
Obesity may be a pathology for some people who can not be cured with a simple diet.
If you think people have weak wills to have such an operation, suffer, and eat only minimal quantities of food to life: sorry but you are an asshole.
This surgery is a miracle and prolong many lives, both for people who have physical or mental pathologies towards food.
