Better to call it based on Jobim's Triste because it is different enough from the orignal to be a totally different piece of music. Still if you aren't expecting to hear Triste, it's a very well done performance.

Why a les paul? Not a good jazz tone. You need a hollow body arch top. Otherwise, nice playing.

That's not a Les Paul. One can get a good Jazz tone out of a Paul because of it's great tone control. Agreed . Not like an arch top. Yes. A litle on the bright side.

@Stratognat No need for an archtop. Put on the neck pickup alone, roll off some high end...bingo, jazz tone. In fact, jazz tone with sustain.

Different, but not bad at all. Just different. Some style crosses ARE terrible, but this one works OK. It's going from one jazzy style to another, so it's not a big stretch anyhow.
