my god... wat a audio quality :O ??? i dont understand where do you people get these crystal clear audio from ? awesome.. thank you so muchh ! :D XOXO
Carmen an incomparable jazz vocalist, especially in the way she puts over a song. I saw her first when I was in high school and have loved her ever since. She was on the bill with the John Coltrane Quartet playing at Ciro's on the Sunset Strip. Two drink minimum (in my case $1.50 for a ginger ale) and no cover charge. Those were the days.
Great playing by Norman Simmons and Carmen was just spell-binding! I hate that I was born too late to try to marry that woman. I would have been content with just hearing her sing everyday. Plus, she wasn't the worst looking chick in the world either! I just think she was super and she receives far too little recognition for her talents. She deserves to be mentioned in the same breath with Sarah, Ella and Billie.
Wow,I really don´t know Sarah´s rendition of this poignant song. The first version I´ve ever heard was Judy Holliday´s then I heard Ella singing this one.She was a great storyteller. And now I hear Carmen...She gives me chills.
Carmen knew the song from Sarah Vaughn's famous recording. She loved Sarah and they became close friends but Carmen never copied her in any way. My favorite Carmen recording is "Spring in December, Winter in May," a nearly unknown song she interprets with the greatest poignancy.
Did someone really compare one of the greatest singers to ever articulate song to some girl who can barely sing. See, this is what happens when people take music out of school and out of popular music. Carmen McRae is nothing like that girl. This song is nothing like anything that girl has done. Carmen is GREAT.
Carmen is up there with the very best. I saw her twice -- once with John Coltrane at Ciro's on the Sunset Strip and once with Tony Bennett and the Count Basie Orchestra. Once there were musical giants--now there's Lil Wayne
amy winehouse will never exude that type of grace and downright talent...she's very talented, hell yea can sing but it is only that singing...not artistry as exemplified here by carmen...
Puh-leez! Amy is just about the only modern singer I would class anywhere near the ladies of the jazz era. Have you heard any of her jazz material? Listen to her sing I Should Care or Someone to Watch Over Me.
I wish people would realize that it doesn't take anything away from the legends to admit that there are, somewhere in the world, a few people with talent reminiscent of theirs.
I like Amy but she needs to stay away from that destructive path shes leading before she reacks her voice... jazz is alive and beating in people like adele, norah jones, diana krall, michael buble and others.
Carmen is one of the most slept on vocal artists. If you get a chance pick up her Live in San Francisco album!!! thank you for posting this:)She timeless, classic and beautiful to watch sing
She seems to have INJECTED the song in herself with a needle. She... dances sitting still, she cries with dry eyes... Her voice is a movie character and she is the director.
Does anybody have Carmen singing "take five"?she used to sing it incredibly, in fact is the only version that I ever heard with words, only Carmen McRae would dare to sing it.
Carmen is one of my favorite jazz singers. Like others said, her diction and the way she interprets the lyrics were the things that drew me to her music. I love the way she can switch from sass to class--know what I mean? So underrated! I'll post more when I can...thanks for such lovely comments! :)
Classic Carmen in great form with a pure voice unlike any other...all 60's recordings are incredible and this rare clip show this singer is one of the top all time greats!!! Bravo Carmen and you are missed
You folks know REAL, Classic, music I'm in my thirties and I grew up listening to the greats like Carmen Mcrae, Sarah Vaughn, Nancy Wilson, John Coletrane, Miles Davis, on and on...Nothing today compares. I do listen to some progressive jazz artists like Bob James, Michael Lington, Marc Antoine, Sade...
When Carmen sings a song, one feel as if one is living the lyrics of the song.Ella and Sarah were better vocalists and they had better instruments but Carmen is a much more inspired artist, a greater artist, more talented.A passionate love song never sounds as passionate as when Carmen sings its lyrics
Lights are turned down low, the drinks are chilling, and looking in those dreamy eyes that you're madly in love with. Carmen is playing in the background. You hear her voice resonate as she navigates through each syllable. Carmen was so cool and mellow. This is vintage Carmen.

Every time I see her sing I fall in love with her all over again.
That phrasing, that diction, that amazing interpretation of a lyric. And then there is that voice. Oh to have a voice like that at your command.
I feel so lucky to have co-existed on this planet with Carmen for awhile, and that our paths intersected a few times. She's the best.
