Evidence was concealed by the KGB. It's possible there was an operation in the long duration between the crash and actual investigation that the KGB did a sweep of the area to contain evidence. Dunno why. The explosion could have blown the 'UFO' into bits, which could have been collected by the KGB. A piece could have been discovered by the scientists from whom it was confiscated. Any life would have been eradicated by the explosion.

Area 51 is American. The evidence would go to a Russian base.

I have to say that the film footage of the area was surprising to me - I have seen documentaries on Tunguska before but I have never seen such extensive original footage and I appreciated that - I'm not sure there is any more information about the incident to report on. It was such a strange incident. If you look on google earth it looks like most of the trees have grown back but there is a 'scar' where nothing seems to be growing.
