what a great act and a hell of a song, i was delivering newspapers in the atlanta area and heard this song back in 1987 on Z-93 a radio station at about 4 in the morning and was totally blown away by it and have been loving it ever since
. In some of our wars 20 – 30% of the male inhabitants of the entire nation were killed or wounded in combat to save our country.
I wish people would think about that, at least once a year, maybe.
I am an old man now. If they would have me, I would go, hoping not that I could do well before biting the dust but that you – all of you or at least the next guy in line, would not have to go.
I love my kids my grandkids and my great grand’s. And I love the men who served, the men who did not serve, and the men and women who have as yet not been forced to decide.
I did not serve. In the US military. Yet I think I may have done what I could as a Man: Protected. For I faced the enemy, his tanks planes bayonets the real deal, five times. In the USA. AFAIK only 4 under my leadership died. I am very lucky for people who have been in that sort of thing.
this song not only still sounds great BUT still has meaning in what's left of todays social enviroment AMERICA NEEDS TO WAKE UP BEFORE IT NO LONGER EXCISITS !!!!!!
All along the watchtower is the quintessential BEST cover ever created in the entire history of mankind!!! Have you ever listened through the entire album "Electric LadyLand? Hendrix created a genre that has yet to be developed/ let alone equalled or even come close too by anyone since, to this very day!!!
Shame on your ignorant, tasteless soul! Who in this world do you think you are to criticize the development of Jimi Hendrix???!!
This is indeed the track that splashed a whole new tone on the direction of the sixties. I remember how shocked the entire basement of Motown friends of mine, it boiled down to a wonderful outsider and I who danced all the way through it to applause at the end! Either no one else dared, or we were so great at improvising in the ere of boogaloo? At that time Sly & the Family Stone were slowly being accepted in my neighborhood! The Chambers Brothers weren't even not on the radar except as freaks!
jawwright3130, I just wanted to let you know that I got your message. I wanted to reply to you, but I couldn't find anything on your website where I could send a message to you. So, I'll reply here and say, "You're very welcome". :-) Also, it's great to have the full song here without cuts. Thanks for that.
These are very talented brothers. This is one of the very few songs that I can listen to EVERY day, SEVERAL times a day and never get tired of it. I've been listening to it for years now. The drumming, especially, is phenomenal. It's so sad that Brian had a heart attack and passed away at such a young age. The world lost a great and talented drummer.
Great song. I was in the air force 1968-1972 when "Time Has Come" was all over the radios and played on record and tape players in the barracks. It was an important part of the "60's soundtrack".
But why is this video full of right wing, reactionary, historical revisionist crap? The race riots and anti-war protests of the sixties were CAUSED by Great Society programs and 'progressivism'? What the h! That's inverted history!
Who is this 1951nightwish? Newt Gingrich? KKK spawn?
@SimonEissen Interesting point... the shorthand in popular film, tv, and movies when they want to represent "DA SIXTEEEES" is to show a kid with long hair and an afro with a headband and a dashiki strolling along while Hendrix plays or show a bunch of helicopters over Vietnam with some other song from the 60s. Showing it as a kind of knee jerk wasteland of dissension and protest without any reason or conclusion!
I come home the second week in November 1967 from Vietnam. Heard this song while I was home on leave in Fresno,CA on KYNO. And have listened to it ever since.
I come home the second week in November 1967 from Vietnam. Heard this song while I was home on leave in Fresno,CA on KYNO. And have listened to it ever since.
This song is the epitome' of the late 60's early 70's. Reminds me of all the things social, political, enviromental, and controversial that took place during that "Time".
An exellent blend of historic pics and words of wisdom to this classic song. This Desert Storm/Iraqi Freedom vet and present VFW Post Commander salutes you.
It may have emerged out of specific 60's malevents, but they were the precursors to the rot today (just ask the band from Akron) ... To me, this is the soundtrack of the Apocalypse, with God laughing in the background at what a mess this all is. The Little Drummer Boy figure is brilliant. This is what Hendrix might sound like today if his spiritual interests went any further than "All Along The Watchtower." Psychedelic gospel -- awesome -- my favorite song.
IT MAKES ME SICK HOW LAZY, WEEK, AND IGNORANT SOME PEOPLE HAVE BECOME, THEY ACTUALLY BELIEVE THE BULLSHIT ABOUT 911. THEY CAN THINK ONLY OF HOW THE JONE'S LIVE AND ABOUT THIER CELL PHONES, I PODS, BMW's AND OTHER MATIEARL THINGS, THIER COMPUTER'S AND HOUSE'S, I SERVED IN VIETNAM AND I CAN SAY THEY'LL NEVER LEARN. NOTHING HAS CHANGED BUT THE IDDIOTTS IN COMAND.
Wonderful video. You captured the dichotomy of the 60s, the enormous hope and optimism, our belief that a better world could be had, coupled with destruction and vilence. For the record, I think Hanoi Jane should still be brought up on charges of treason. Peace, brother.
@winddancer1562 A lot of stuff on the Internet and in e mails is not true. Please read the WHOLE article in the link I've posted below. Jane's no saint, but she's also not as bad as e mails portray her.
There is so much hatred going around in e mail; i.e., 99% of the emails about Barack Obama are not true. People who hate don't care if they pass around lies. Don't believe everything you read. Snopes is a very good site to check if you want to know the truth about a story.
Great song and video...I thought you or somebody could play this song and feature stills and videos of the horrors going on in Africa (Female Genital Mutilations, children having limbs chopped off, women being raped in The Congos and other areas, etc.) to 'send a message' that 'The time has come today to STOP THESE HORRORS IN AFRICA!'
Finally found out who this song belongs to........it's used in a porn movie I had back in the '80s which circulated in my group of friends.....until it mysteriously disappeared! :)
This calls to mind a 20 yr old kid flying a Huey listening to AFVN. "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness..." Charles Dickens
I agree with you. But what puzzles me is that they're wanted by the FBI and yet these terrible revolutionists ARE free and teaching in schools. Has the FBI gone far left as well? You're the 1st person I have come across that has spoken such things through good music just as Glenn Beck had announced whom the threat from within are. I can only hope that America will soon wake up and see that progressivism is here and do something about it before it's too late. Take care and GOD BLESS!!!!!!
Thanks for posting... yes, it's the best version! Remember the Vietnam war made me sick after coming home from school every day and seeing it on TV and realizing it was real, it really scared me. JFK was slaughtered and this massive music explosion was the only thing that made it tolerable to go through the 60's and 70's. Otherwise I'd have lost it every day back then...
Very violent and turbulent decade. Many died for standing up for their rights. But the music was great, like this classic.Fantastic drummer love the changing beats. One of the best, equal to Keith Moon of the Who.
Time Sucks The Here and Now are late The Future too early The Past isn’t over ‘til Tomorrow Slows way down And Yesterday doesn’t have Enough momentum To catch up to today I remember how Time Sucks From a previous life That lost Eternity
It's not a message. It is commentary on the times. Take in the social info and weigh it for your level of understanding of what was happening at the time. Imagine the turmoil they are trying to express to you in song.

Yep! It was a time! This song really captures that song captures the uncertainty of being young and alive in one of the most exciting periods in American history... The good and the bad...
Interesting historical references. And yes; things went upside down for America around that time. It's still happening now too, except we've had 20 to 30 million foreigners that don't have a real stake in American ideals, crammed down our throats,
