  • You and your good-time buddies...

  • Mr. Bookman (Philip Hall) was terrific in "The Talented Mr. Ripley". Small part, but similar to this one....only, not funny. Great flick by the way. Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gweneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett and Philip Seymore Hoffman. Plus a great ensemble cast. (1999)

  • Just realized that Mr. Bookman is a parody of Joe Friday from "Dragnet." LOL

  • great monologue

  • Omg, I just realized! That's Larry's doctor! Hahaha!

  • One of my favorite's! Always makes me laugh!

  • I gotta flash forya joy boy!

  • POLICE ENFORCEMENT OF LIBRARY LENDING LEAVES 5 YEAR-OLD IN TEARS

A Massachusetts mom said police went too far when they paid her and her 5-year-old daughter a visit for failing to return their library books on time.

"She's 5; she didn't understand," said Shannon Benoit of her daughter, Hailey.

The books, titled "How To Tie My Shoes" and "Eloise's Birthday," had been sitting on Hailey's bookshelf since April.

  • @Wiseguy453 they're books, einstein.

  • The Best "Secondary" Characters From Seinfeld:

    1. Frank and Estelle Costanza

    2. Mr. Bookman

    3. J. Peterman

    4. Newman

    5. Jackie Chiles

    6. The Mohel

  • Jerry is absolutely hysterical going through this scene just barely containing himself in a frozen face.

  • I work in a library and I have to say I really empathize with Bookman.

  • 37 people have overdue books.

  • @Epic scene

  • He does a great "Jack Webb" -- one of my favorite scenes...

  • 37 PEOPLE GOT BUSTED BY THE LIBRARY COP

  • "Well I've got a flash for ya, Joyboy." Lol...

  • the thing about seinfeld is, every character is just perfectly cast. every little thing about this show is so well done that i can't watch other comedy sitcoms anymore because i always compare them to seinfeld. seinfeld is absolutely THE BEST.

  • I remember when the library lady was an unnatractive old woman, we didn´t know about her personal life, we didn´t want to know about her personal life, she DIDN'T have a personal life LOL.... anyone has that link???

  • One of the best Seinfeld scenes ever!!!

  • 37 people don't know how to pretend to be busy at work..suckers!

  • If you’re a Seinfeld fan, then check out “The Seinfeld Rap” that I made. I also made a music video/picture show to go along with it. I put a lot of work into it and if you’re a fan of the show, I think you will really like it. Check out my channel, it is my latest upload. Thank you for listening.

  • so this is where sydney drove to after he shot samuel l jackson

  • @urzadek27 nice Hard Eight reference

  • lol Seinfeld is pretty much barely holding in his laughter awesome scene

  • shakira is getting old and i did not fuck her, that is sad

  • It doesn't matter if you like Seinfeld or not. This scene is all about Phillip Baker Hall's brilliant performance. This is one of those scenes aspiring actors should watch over and over and over again.

  • masterpiece performance, A+++++

  • I think that sets the record for the longest uninterrupted speech by just one character on the show. It was superbly funny, and I get the feeling Jerry was enjoying it every bit as much as the audience.

  • Floyd Gondolli!

  • Philip Baker Hall is THE book MAN!

  • let me tell you something, he's on modern family right now as the grouchy neighbor.

  • this guy is the doctor in curb your enthusiasm....hes great

  • this is my favorite, Bookman's delivery is hilarious

  • @rx2z14 I've seen your type before: Flashy, making a scene, flaunting convention...

    :)

  • am i really the only one who knows that it should be flouting convention and not flaunting convention?

  • @myassshootshugeturds Very good pick-up, while "flaunting" is correct, flouting would be more so. One of the definitions of flaunting is, " To show contempt for; scorn" which could fit the phrase.

  • KELSO?

  • One of the best Seinfeld-all time scenes. Mr Bookman is classic.

  • This cracks me up every time haha. Nearly finished my complete dvd collection again! Can't believe I properly got into this only 6 years ago, my excuse is I'm from the U.K haha

  • Bookman for President 2014!

  • I think it's pretty obvious that Jerry was enjoying this scene as much as the audience. To all you Hollywood A-Holes out there, one of the major reasons the show was such a huge success is the parade of different supporting actors each week. Then add in the fantastic writing and hilarious acting performances. I haven't watched a sitcom since Seinfeld went off. I tried, but got sick of the laugh tracks maniacal laughter every time someone batted an eye. THEY JUST PLAIN SUCK!

  • 36 people never returned their books to library and also afraid of wee wees and pee pees

  • Man, thats a great scene

  • lol funny shit

  • haha nice application of police movie one liner cliches

  • The guest stars are one of the best parts of Seinfeld.

  • One of my very favourite guest stars and scenes.

  • This is right up there with the Mohle, aaahhhhh who cares!??!!

  • Slam dunk! The best show ever produced! ANY SEINFELD FAN IS A FRIEND OF MINE!!

  • "Peepee's and Weewee's"

  • Mr. Bookman ruled that show, stole it!

  • Pippies & Wiewwies HAHAHAHA!!!

  • LOL!!!!!

"The Library". I was watching that classic on T.V. last night (6/27). Shit is mad funny! Lol... The short-haired librarian was sexy, too! ;-) Fuckin' Kramer always fell ass-backwards into the hottest broads. Oh, yeah, the younger version of "Sherry Becker" was hot too. ;D I swear, the first 4 seasons of 'Seinfeld' were the shit. I don't care much for what came after, except for the classic "Finale". My top 3 episodes:

"The Contest"-"The Subway"-"The Hamptons". THE BEST ONES!

  • after a while he has trouble keeping a straight face

  • I got a flash for you, joy boy. Fuckin hilarious.

  • i had a physics teacher named Mr Teachworth... is that worth anything?

  • 35 idiots must have overpaid library books!!!!

  • "I don't judge a man by the length of his hair or the kind of music he listens to; rock was never my bag."

  • making the scene

  • let me give you a hint junior

  • instant coffee

  • Phillip Baker Hall is the man.. enough said

  • the actor plays Larry Davids doctor in a few episodes of Curb You Enthusiasm as well.

  • I cant even imagine how Jerry pull a straight face during that whole scene, can't recall seeing outtakes from this one.

  • This is right up there with the JFK Assassination reinactment scene

  • Jerry want to laugh

  • @steveabro1988 omg, you can tell that he just wants to burst out laughing...him and his good time buddies!

  • seinfeld he doesn't drink coffee. smh lol

  • Floyd Gondolli

  • peepees and weewees!

  • Out of all the episodes and scenes, I do think this was my favorite..How that guy didn't laugh while saying all those lines is beyond me..

  • LMAO @ 2:10 !!! "or..maybe that turns you on seinfeld"

  • LOL Joy Boy!!!

  • That's Enntertaiinment!

  • tv aint like this no more

  • @filthmouth1 and it wont be. For a long long time.

  • @filthmouth1 nope. all i see is UNreality shows about people acting stupidly. thank god for seinfeld reruns.

  • He did appear in the finale

  • Comment removed

  • This is the best scene out of every other espisode of Seinfield

  • Isn't that Larry David's doctor? lol

  • "I've got a flash for you, Joy Boy"...almost as good as "pee-pees and wee-wees".

  • you got 7 days Seinfeld, that is one week, funny

  • It's Doctor Morrison!

  • 33 people Didn't get a big salad, Hate the Drake, Weren't home, Don't have a Garbage disposal in the shower, Forgot to pick Newman up at the zoo, Don't wear a bra, Wouldn't take off the hat, Threw out Joe Mayo's fur coat, Don't have Jon Voight's car, Are killing Independent George, Aren't Importer-Exporter's, Can't lift the TV over their head, Don't like pudding skin, Didn't see Jane topless, Threw out Jerry's Napkin, Have ladies frames, Wore cotton uniforms, and of didn't return the book.

  • @Gancosfatman That was a beautiful piece of writing man, very clever, I really enjoyed it.

  • @logancody05 Mandelbaum! mandelbaum! mandelbaum!

  • @Gancosfatman LOL, My wife and I walk our dog every morning, and every day this old man (Looks just like Izzy) comes jogging past us. Both of us start chanting Mandelbaum, Mandelbaum, until he's out of sight.

  • How did Jerry manage to do this scene with a straight face?

  • @Judo593 he didn't - he's cracking up the whole time :D

  • Bookman: Epic Detective

my screenplay, meant for that actor.

  • One of the reasons Seinfeld was such a great show, and stayed so fesh, they had an array of wonderful and different supporting actors almost every week.

  • Jeans sucked by then, look at the size of jerry's zipper at least 12 inches, lol

  • for some reason it always makes me laugh that he is a lieutenant

  • 32 people disliked this video, and now I'm commenting on it...

  • This is my favorite scene ever. I wish Mr. Bookman came back in the finale and testified against them like all those other old characters

  • @DominoRyder I think you'll find he DID make an appearance in the finale.

  • @DominoRyder He did

  • @DominoRyder He did appear in the finale. I did not like the finale, but seeing Bookman and the Soup Nazi was worth the horrible ending (which CURB made up for.)

  • Guy is a terrific and hilarious actor, bookman now plays larry davids doctor on curb your enthusiasm

  • joy boy lol..

i love how he cant help but crack up after that he double takes and raises his eyebrows in disbelief

  • i love how even jerry, straight man to end all straight men, seems to have trouble keeping it together at hall's utter stone-facedness.

  • Totally agree, one of the best Seinfeld scenes ever, great acting.

    Best sitcom ever.

  • LOL "Pee Pees and Wee Wees"

  • You and your good-time buddies.

  • That guy is a genius. So are Seinfeld and Larry David.

  • legendary performance!

  • @godmode9 You think this is a performance? just an act? Just something to make you crack up? Well newsflash for you chummy-buddy: The law is not funny, it's what sets us apart from animals, it's what allows us to live in a society. Now that might not mean much to you and your hooligan pals, but it means a hell of a lot to upstanding people like Bookman. So next time you use a public forum for antisocial commentary, you better think again.

  • @Wafflepudding perhaps you better think again...many, and I mean MANY animals have rules as well as punishment for breaking them. Study a wolf-pack, you will see that there are numerous rules that are enforced, which allows them to live as a cohesive/productive/prosperous unit. I know that probably breaks your whole "that's what sets us apart from animals" deal, but its simply the way it is. Don't be so conceited as to think you are not an animal...we all are.

  • @Rorix9 Just a helpful hint: You might want to try to recognize comedic roleplaying before the next time you start lecturing.

  • @Wafflepudding A great clip from Seinfeld. A funny top comment. And a chuckle worthy (and polite) reply to a laughably ignorant comment from Rorix9. I hit this page at the right time. Thanks!

  • @Wafflepudding you think this is all a big joke don't you? well, let me tell you something funny boy, i've seen your type before...flashy, making a scene. I know what u r thinking "why's this guy making such a big stink"...sure you and I can live with ignorant comments, but what about that kid sitting down right now reading your comments implying we are not animals and that animals don't have rules. This isn't about us vs. them...its about that kid getting his mind warped

    Is that better? :P

  • Jerry has a huge problem keeping a straight face during this scene which makes the clip even more epic. Truly one of the most ingenious and funniest moments of the greatest sitcom ever made.

  • Bookman needs to have a talk with Charlie Sheen.

  • I have this friend who could do this scene perfectly and alter it to someone and something else relatable to a similiar topic!!!

  • @Fanik8 get it on video, sounds good

  • this is funny because it is a cliche of the television shows of the 1950's such as "Dragnet" ( Sure I understand, but will the hundred of kids out there who look up to police officers, will they understand? ) Very funny; Randal

  • Also, I'm not a doctor, but something tells me that there is a prick in this scene. There's definitely a prick involved.

  • Who doesn't have instant coffee? You buy a jar of Folger's crystals, you put it in the cupboard, you forget about it. Later on when you need it, it's there, freeze dried crystals.

  • @NeilFraudstrong 'Lasts forever!'

  • Bookman's parody to old tv detective and cop programs like Dragnet is golden!

  • That was Polski!!

  • PEEPEES and WEEWEES.......

  • 29 people have been busted by detective bookman

  • "well I've got a flash for you joy-boy"

    he's just EPIC

  • This guy should have been given his own show. He coulda been like a freelance overdue book investigator working for various libraries that had trouble with book borrowing scofflaws. Bookman Five-0?

  • I don't know how that guy pulled off that entire part with a straight face- Jerry was cracking up for real!

  • "in the cat in the hat, and the five chinese brothers"----lmao

  • Freeze dry crystals

  • I made this account in honor of this scene.

  • pee-pees and wee-wees. what a total riot. This is possibly my second-favorite scene in Seinfeld. ("You don't know what a write-off is" is my favorite.)

  • Why are Jerry's pants pulled up so high?

  • @somewhatlongdong i dont know man

  • @somewhatlongdong - It screams early 90s to me! That was the style then.

  • @50Violetta naw,this is a copy of the 1940,s dectective movies.

  • bookman is one of the best of em...him and soup nazi rule it

  • 29 people are obviously too busy being flash and making the scene...

  • How this guy ever kept a straight face, I don't know.

  • peepees and weewees!!

  • The audio being off from the video just a split second destroys this entire scene. And it was a great scene.

  • Jerry is trying DAMN hard not to laugh out loud!

  • 29 people forgot to return their library book...

  • "What about that kid, sitting down, opening a book right now in a branch of the local library and finding drawings of pee-pee's and wee-wee's in the Cat in the Hat and the Five Chinese Brothers?"

I think this guy really had Seinfeld going.

  • awesome scene

  • "Or maybe that turns you on Seinfeld. You and your good time buddies."

    Hahahaha, Favorite line. Favorite scene.

  • @carahpants yup lol. Good time buddies did it for me to as well as joy boy. Lolol

  • @carahpants TOTALLY!!! You and your good time buddies LOLOL

  • @carahpants me too! Bookman and i think Brodie the bootlegger were my faves.

  • bookman didnt fuck around......"you and your good-time buddies....."

  • ...finding drawings of pippis and weewees in the Cat in the Hat and The 5 Chines Brothers...you joyboy! :))

  • You and your good time buddys. I would have loved to see this guy as a spin-off series.

  • his name's Phillip Baker Hall

  • 1:40

that might have been the first time i see a zoom in seinfeld

  • Dude I just watched The Rock, with Nicholas Cage, he was in it.

  • well let me tell you something funny boy

  • Comment removed

  • English and Americans are both retarded.

  • Well I've got a flash for you joyboy!

  • Comment removed

  • you think this is all a big joke dontcha!!!!

  • (points finger again) "Well let me tell you something funny boy!"

  • I got a flash for you joy boy. Great stuff

  • I don't judge a man by the length of his hair or the music he listens to, rock was never my bag, but you put on a pair of shoes when you walk into the NY Public Library fella!

  • joy boy LOL

  • Lol !!! I always crack up watching Seinfeld. This is beautiful, one of the all time greats

  • If you look closely you can see near the end of his monologue he's having difficulty keeping a straight face.

  • "Rock was never my bag."

"I got a flash for ya joy boy!"

Maybe the best Seinfeld scene ever. Pure genius.

The actor deserves all credit. His name is Philip Baker Hall

  • @InsideDope

The same actor plays Larry David's doctor on Curb your Enthusiasm.

  • @mkmand84 Yep! Don't get HBO so am enjoying CYE now that they're being played on cable and caught him in an episode just last week. (Love that show as well.)
