Mr. Bookman (Philip Hall) was terrific in "The Talented Mr. Ripley". Small part, but similar to this one....only, not funny. Great flick by the way. Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gweneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett and Philip Seymore Hoffman. Plus a great ensemble cast. (1999)
the thing about seinfeld is, every character is just perfectly cast. every little thing about this show is so well done that i can't watch other comedy sitcoms anymore because i always compare them to seinfeld. seinfeld is absolutely THE BEST.
I remember when the library lady was an unnatractive old woman, we didn´t know about her personal life, we didn´t want to know about her personal life, she DIDN'T have a personal life LOL.... anyone has that link???

It doesn't matter if you like Seinfeld or not. This scene is all about Phillip Baker Hall's brilliant performance. This is one of those scenes aspiring actors should watch over and over and over again.
I think that sets the record for the longest uninterrupted speech by just one character on the show. It was superbly funny, and I get the feeling Jerry was enjoying it every bit as much as the audience.
@myassshootshugeturds Very good pick-up, while "flaunting" is correct, flouting would be more so. One of the definitions of flaunting is, " To show contempt for; scorn" which could fit the phrase.
This cracks me up every time haha. Nearly finished my complete dvd collection again! Can't believe I properly got into this only 6 years ago, my excuse is I'm from the U.K haha
I think it's pretty obvious that Jerry was enjoying this scene as much as the audience. To all you Hollywood A-Holes out there, one of the major reasons the show was such a huge success is the parade of different supporting actors each week. Then add in the fantastic writing and hilarious acting performances. I haven't watched a sitcom since Seinfeld went off. I tried, but got sick of the laugh tracks maniacal laughter every time someone batted an eye. THEY JUST PLAIN SUCK!
"The Library". I was watching that classic on T.V. last night (6/27). Shit is mad funny! Lol... The short-haired librarian was sexy, too! ;-) Fuckin' Kramer always fell ass-backwards into the hottest broads. Oh, yeah, the younger version of "Sherry Becker" was hot too. ;D I swear, the first 4 seasons of 'Seinfeld' were the shit. I don't care much for what came after, except for the classic "Finale". My top 3 episodes:
"The Contest"-"The Subway"-"The Hamptons". THE BEST ONES!
33 people Didn't get a big salad, Hate the Drake, Weren't home, Don't have a Garbage disposal in the shower, Forgot to pick Newman up at the zoo, Don't wear a bra, Wouldn't take off the hat, Threw out Joe Mayo's fur coat, Don't have Jon Voight's car, Are killing Independent George, Aren't Importer-Exporter's, Can't lift the TV over their head, Don't like pudding skin, Didn't see Jane topless, Threw out Jerry's Napkin, Have ladies frames, Wore cotton uniforms, and of didn't return the book.
@Gancosfatman LOL, My wife and I walk our dog every morning, and every day this old man (Looks just like Izzy) comes jogging past us. Both of us start chanting Mandelbaum, Mandelbaum, until he's out of sight.
One of the reasons Seinfeld was such a great show, and stayed so fesh, they had an array of wonderful and different supporting actors almost every week.
@DominoRyder He did appear in the finale. I did not like the finale, but seeing Bookman and the Soup Nazi was worth the horrible ending (which CURB made up for.)
@godmode9 You think this is a performance? just an act? Just something to make you crack up? Well newsflash for you chummy-buddy: The law is not funny, it's what sets us apart from animals, it's what allows us to live in a society. Now that might not mean much to you and your hooligan pals, but it means a hell of a lot to upstanding people like Bookman. So next time you use a public forum for antisocial commentary, you better think again.
@Wafflepudding perhaps you better think again...many, and I mean MANY animals have rules as well as punishment for breaking them. Study a wolf-pack, you will see that there are numerous rules that are enforced, which allows them to live as a cohesive/productive/prosperous unit. I know that probably breaks your whole "that's what sets us apart from animals" deal, but its simply the way it is. Don't be so conceited as to think you are not an animal...we all are.
@Wafflepudding A great clip from Seinfeld. A funny top comment. And a chuckle worthy (and polite) reply to a laughably ignorant comment from Rorix9. I hit this page at the right time. Thanks!
@Wafflepudding you think this is all a big joke don't you? well, let me tell you something funny boy, i've seen your type before...flashy, making a scene. I know what u r thinking "why's this guy making such a big stink"...sure you and I can live with ignorant comments, but what about that kid sitting down right now reading your comments implying we are not animals and that animals don't have rules. This isn't about us vs. them...its about that kid getting his mind warped
Jerry has a huge problem keeping a straight face during this scene which makes the clip even more epic. Truly one of the most ingenious and funniest moments of the greatest sitcom ever made.
this is funny because it is a cliche of the television shows of the 1950's such as "Dragnet" ( Sure I understand, but will the hundred of kids out there who look up to police officers, will they understand? ) Very funny; Randal
Who doesn't have instant coffee? You buy a jar of Folger's crystals, you put it in the cupboard, you forget about it. Later on when you need it, it's there, freeze dried crystals.

pee-pees and wee-wees. what a total riot. This is possibly my second-favorite scene in Seinfeld. ("You don't know what a write-off is" is my favorite.)
"What about that kid, sitting down, opening a book right now in a branch of the local library and finding drawings of pee-pee's and wee-wee's in the Cat in the Hat and the Five Chinese Brothers?"
I don't judge a man by the length of his hair or the music he listens to, rock was never my bag, but you put on a pair of shoes when you walk into the NY Public Library fella!

POLICE ENFORCEMENT OF LIBRARY LENDING LEAVES 5 YEAR-OLD IN TEARS
A Massachusetts mom said police went too far when they paid her and her 5-year-old daughter a visit for failing to return their library books on time.
"She's 5; she didn't understand," said Shannon Benoit of her daughter, Hailey.
The books, titled "How To Tie My Shoes" and "Eloise's Birthday," had been sitting on Hailey's bookshelf since April.
