Single payer has to lead to rationing and great redistribution of wealth. Government has no need to control costs so how will it run health care more efficiently? Paul Krugman introduced an idea that is completely 100% against everything conservatives are for, but it would probably be the best solution. Does anyone know what this jackass is talking about??
The GOP are caught with their pants down trying to reconcile being against the deficit, yet defending tax cuts to the rich, where all economists agree those cuts would have to be done with borrowed money and would increase the size of the deficit.
So the GOP are trying to baffle with bullshit.

You don't have to give tax cuts to the rich to reduce spending.
Cutting essential services like Medicare, Medicaid, etc. is a poor option.
Military spending could always have been cut, and could be cut without losing revenue by tax cuts for the rich.

@fudgedogbannana Another aspect of tax cuts for the rich you obviously overlook or prefer not to mention: There is a given amount of capital out there, you give more to the rich and the middle class get less to spend. Spending is the real generator of jobs.
The money that you give, for example, in extended unemployment benefits go to people who are living paycheck to paycheck and they spend it all, spend it immediately, and spend it in the U.S.

The tragedy is that so much of the pop. sees government spending as an "incumbent" problem or a "republican versus democrat" problem, whereas a large part of the problem is the political system itself. It won't change until you change the system.

To the extent that taxes paid by the rich go to safety nets like unemployment benefits - reductions in taxes for the rich mean more money for the rich but less for those on unemployment benefits. The tax given government does not stay with government, but is largely just passed on as income/benefits for others.

@megarational Cant keep spending tax dollars like water, 100s of billions on wars, 100s of billion given away to those "too big to fail"and other phony stimulus plan. Suspend the Federal income tax for the next 3 years, let people and the rich too keep more of their own money to spend, more people will work for less if they didnt have to pay the Fed, employers save time and money when they hire new employee. Now that is a stimulus plan that will show real results fast.

We did ok before the income tax, of course you cant just suspend the tax alone, we have to stop the wars, eliminate overseas bases, stop protecting other countries who are not even threatened by anyone, change foreign policy, stop bail outs, fix welfare, stop borrowing and printing money, stop the war on drugs, close the borders. all this we can do in one year, and see result the next year. But no you want "free money" for yourself and your kind.

- courts, police, national security would shut down
- public education would shut down. Unless the kids parents were rich - no education.
- No military. No military superiority. No defense.
- Tens of millions of seniors & those at low income would die as they could no longer afford medical prescriptions or treatment. Even emergency wards would not accept anyone without a lot of money.

If every tax payer had to pay the same % of every dollar of income we would end the politics of division! Both democrats and republicans have divided the country for their own gain. It is also clear that as taxation raises the health of the economy is hurt. So tax cuts are the best way to stimulate the economy and stimulus bills kill it.

It is a proven failure in ensuring a fair distribution of that wealth and preventing abuse of individuals.

First, the facts. Nearly the entire deficit for this year and those projected into the near and medium terms are the result of three things: the ongoing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Bush tax cuts and the recession. The solution to our fiscal situation is: end the wars, allow the tax cuts to expire and restore robust growth. Our long-term structural deficits will require us to control healthcare inflation the way countries with single-payer systems do.

@sjcpal I worked in Canada. The health care was bad! Waiting for procedures months when it was available the same day in the states. Single payer has to lead to rationing and great redistribution of wealth. Government has no need to control costs so how will it run health care more efficiently? "death panels" are no punchline, when some one else makes critical choices for you.

In the U.S. medical treatment is rationed by the terms of your insurance policy, the size of your wallet, co-payments, deductibles, "caps" and if you don't have insurance it rations you out of h.c. entirely prior to h.c. reform.
Now the same people who think there is no rationing in the U.S. are the same fools that complain that if h.c. is extended to everyone (as Canada does) there won't be enough doctors to go around

Paul Krugman introduced an idea that is completely 100% against everything conservatives are for, but it would probably be the best solution. It's called "trickle-up economics": instead of supplying the wealthy with more money (which they traditionally save up or invest slowly), you supply the lower-income homes (who are more prone to spend vigorously when provided a surplus of money) and the money goes right back into the system and boosts the economy.

Warren Buffet, richest man in the U.S., pays only 17% income tax while his secretary pays nearly 30%: Back in 2007, he was even complaining about how the system is rigged to favor the rich. Repubs know this, and want an economic system of poor people willing to do anything for rich people (prob. because THEY'RE rich).

This is a very good reason why we as American citizens should do everything we possibly can to keep the GOP from taking over the House and the Senate this coming November, they have no idea how to Govern. Senator Kyl never answered the "loaded question." Yes, add to the deficit for the wealthy, and no to the unemployed... The GOP being opposed to deficit spending for unemployment benefits so we look more like a 3rd world nation, but ignore this problem when it comes to using the deficit to pay for tax cuts for the rich, shows crystal clear where the Republican party's loyalties lie, and it's not with the American people and never will be as long as they continue to exist.

Historically, if you look at tax rates and job growth, in years with higher tax rates job growth is higher than years with lower taxes. Lower taxes DO NOT PRODUCE JOBS! This guy is working in his own interests.
