There is a 1975 L'Elisir d'Amore from SF where, if possible, his singing is even more beautiful. The role of Nemorino, I think, fits him better. This performance is also one of his best, the voice just caressing you with liquid gold.
As beautiful as it is, I can't help but thinking, he was ruining his voice as he sang it. I prefer more natural metal in this aria and certainly the role
But I suppose with him, di Stefano others we must be thankful for what they did, on their terms even though I wish they had been more circumspect about what their voices were naturally intended for
This continues today where another Villazon-never on this level-and apparently not lasting as long continue to sing what they shouldn't
Another astounding performance by Carreras! His voice has such a delicious tone, and he sings with an intensity of emotion that is unmatched by anyone else I've ever heard. He is what opera is all about!
Thank you for posting this. What a lovely aria and performance. He has that lovely Spanish quality to his voice, as does Domingo . Hard to define, but wonderful. Good to look at, too. LOL
I love Tucker, Corelli, and Del Monaco. They were all heroic voices, and Tucker is my favoarite tenor of all time. But- Carreras does sing this aria with a golden tone. There are no two ways about that, IMO. We are not comparing him to the others.
There is no pushing here. this is brillieant. this is jose in his prime. you should go buy the entire recording so you see just how good this is. tell me a living tenor who can sing like this in 2007. you cant cuz i know them all and no one can.
BRAVO!

well, if i dont name one who can compete with this artistry. The industry is not about singing and art anyway, but about ticket sales.

This is exquisite Verdisinging. Carreras force has not arrived yet in this Forza and in the glorious seventies.
