  • He's stupid. I would've wagered nothing!

  • @briantravelman He probably knew the answer. To put it in a level that you should easily understand: if the question was "What is the name of this show", wouldn't you put most of your money on "Jeopardy"?

  • @cramernjen

Yeah, but he doesnt know what the question is, he only knows the clue, he makes his wager before the question is asked.

  • He could of bet everything but a dollar and still walk out the winner and with something in his pocket.

  • Personally, I wouldn't bet as much as he did.

  • it would be hilarious if he bid it all and lost

  • The suspense of who was going to win was killing me.....

  • the two guys who were in the negatives disliked this

  • it would suck if he got it wrong

  • the answer is charlet bronte and they named the brontosaurus after her.

  • Like a Boss!!!

  • If everyone is in the negative when the game ends does the winner owe Jeopardy money? Lol.

  • Betting more than a dollar is a dick move to the guy in last place, bro.

  • i dont get why he only bid 11300 when there is no competition. if you are going to bid that much you may as well bid it all!

  • And risk ending up with $0? EPIC FAIL strategy sir. You can't win with zero. You can only wager at maximum all but $1 in this situation.

  • @bakerandbaker1 he risked $300 less than what he had, so he wouldnt have ended up with $0 if he got it wrong.

  • Holy crap, I got it right lol.

  • i would've just bet 0

  • u get 5000 bucks just for playing? holy shit how do i get on this show?

  • The standard consolation prizes are $2000 for second and $1000 for third, but you have to pay your own transportation and lodging costs. You don't get much advance notice if you're selected for a taping, so you probably can't get good discounts for advance booking.

This was a special contest, therefore the higher consolation prizes.

  • @365metal yeah really they shouldn't have got anything so i guess somebody can go on there and not even try and walk away with some money

  • I hear that if all three contestants end up with $0 after the end of Final Jeopardy! nowadays, they all receive $1,000 each (knowing the fact that $3,000 is given every day to runner-ups), before booking three new players on the next show.

  • @jonghyunchung I wonder if the same occurs if all three contestants finish with 0 or negative scores at the end of Double Jeopardy! except no final jeopardy is played and 3 new players on the next show

  • @cubsrule2040

That's never happened since the premiere in 1984, but I think it happened once in an Art Fleming episode. There WAS no Final Jeopardy played indeed, though.

  • "today, i think we'll start with Jefff Richmond"

0:41-0:44 "i don't get the joke herp derp... why are they laughing?"

  • that was a fun match

  • did i miss something? that should have been a default!

  • @gcxe

yea he does win the game, but he still plays the last question to see how much money he gets to take home

  • @Artyom2012 I saw that one guy's pen malfunctioned, so he wrote it on a card instead

  • both of the contestants did well during the game, they just lost it in the end, I read it. even if the other guy got it wrong he would win with $1

  • i wonder what would happen if all 3 players got a negative score, what would happend then for final jeopardy?

  • @emptyspotlight it wouldnt be played and theyd have no returning chamnpion

  • I remember watching this back in 2005 after my all-time favorite Jeopardy constestant Ken Jennings.

  • No joke, this also happened today (3/16/11)

  • @ljoufhk I knew someone was gonna say it

  • isn't it funny that happened exactly 4 years after the first 3 way tie?

  • @ljoufhk Yes it did i uploaded it

  • @ljoufhk Strange, March 16th was also the date of a very rare (possibly unique?) three way tie in 2007.

  • Why did he wager so much when he had no competition? If his answer was incorrect, he would've lost...against no one.

  • @smellincoffee because he gets to come back the next day no matter what.

  • @deesman623 It happened at least once during the Flemming run. I don't know of video, most of the pre-Trebek episodes are lost forever :<

  • @Artyom2012 How does an illiterate person get on Jeopardy? If they can't even write their name on the podium it seems unlikely they will pass the test to make it on the show

Jeopardy has however featured the occasional blind contestant, who does type their answer on a braille keyboard

  • well done

  • How is this the tournament of champions and Bernard finished the game with -$3,000?

  • @TheMoreDislikesClub Because it's what it really is? The tournament involving past Jeopardy champions???? XD

  • Tell me theoretically if it is possible to have final jeopardy with 3 players all in the red at the end of the double jeopardy round.

  • @deesman623 of course its possible. that means final jeopardy will not be played i believe

  • @Gameshowboy Not only that, but none of the three players will be coming back. The next show will have three new players. What happens to the second and third place money of $2000 and $1000, I don't know, but it would make sense to take the $3000 and give each player $1000 of it (it covers the air fare to get to LA).

  • @Gameshowboy and i THINK that happened in one of the first shows in '84 (itt was either that or all three bet everything & lost) I can't remember which.

  • @disneydanny2

It happened on the second episode. It's on YouTube, all three contestants bet everything and lost, and they had three new contestants the next day.

  • @Gameshowboy So would the player who owes the least amount of money be declared the winner??? lol

  • @vault687 there would be no winner and no final jeopardy either, if ended in the red

  • @Gameshowboy

meaning about 12 minutes of commercials? haha

  • @Gameshowboy Not according to Celebrity Jeopardy. ;)

  • @Gameshowboy happened once in the Art Fleming era...

  • @Gameshowboy Yeah the episode will end there where no one going to the next show.

  • @deesman623 It has happened once, but before Trebek took over the show. On the lone episode, they just had small talk with the contestants and the host (Art Fleming, IIRC.)

  • @deesman623 It is possible but so unlikely it will probably never happen.

  • @Artyom2012 There is some leeway.

  • Wait, this was Tournament of Champions and 2 contestants were in the negative going into Final Jeopardy?

  • why wouldnt he just bet like 100$ or something?

  • @drewamira He's already won fairly big by coming in first. Even if he dropped down to zero, there was a large prize waiting for him. He's got confidence and balls.

  • @drewamira Well, if you're confident in a category, why not go for the extra cash?

  • @Artyom2012 they wouldnt be allowed on the show lol, i garuntee you , as they would not be able to read the catagory they want

  • That's a sick wager!

  • Could he have gone on to the next day if he had bet all of his money and lost?

  • @krim7

No. I just saw a video from the second episode where all three bet everything and lost. They'd just bring in three new people with no returning champ.

  • @krim7 I think that's why he didn't. Since $0 is never a winning score on Jeopardy, he would have had to be an epic fool to bet it all.

  • Gutsy wager.

  • I think he should have taken all his clothes off. It would have been win/win!

  • wait so if he would've answered that incorrectly would the 2nd and 3rd place people automatically win? (because of their $5,000 earnings?)

  • @caesaloupholous No, they've already been awarded second and third place. He would have still advanced by default, since he was the "highest" finishing player, I think. Or they probably would have taken the non-winning contestant with the highest total in that round and had them come back.

  • 2nd Place is $2,000 and 3rd Place is $1,000 no matter the dollar amounts earned up to final Jeopardy.

  • hahaha that was the tournament of champions???

  • i cant believe i got that question right, i love jeopardy but im so horribly bad at it!

  • He had no competition! I mean he could get the wrong answer risk it all and still be the winner that day.

  • @seekertosecrets

He would have to risk all but a dollar, if he lost all his money, then three new players would have been on the next game.

  • you get $5,000 for just showing up?! I've seen people win on just $1,000!

  • @cmbuvi92

This is the Ultimate Tournament of Champions, which brings back the players with the highest scores to compete against each other, so the stakes are higher and it's not a normal game. In regular games, the 2nd place player gets 2k, and the 3rd placer gets 1k.

  • Wait, who won?

  • I would have thought in a situation like this, the lone contestant would just answer out loud.

  • One person playing "FINAL JEOPARDY" I think it happened about 2 to three 3 times in the entire run ? ? I think it actually did happened many years ago on regular play.

  • hahaha this is wonderous. dude went greedy too !! would have had 300 bucks only left over if he missed it.

  • lol... how do you even pass the screening process, and still finish in the negs?

I would get my butt handed to me if I were a contestant, but even I know about half the questions on a game that's normal difficulty.

  • i wuld bet none and put haha i won

  • this is hilarious

  • Today I think we'll start with... Jeff Richmond. Alex Trebek is the man.

  • that was one of my favorite matches the ultimate tournement

  • that's actually the most amazing final jeopardy ahah.

  • the worst part about this is that its during tournament of champions...

  • Today I think we will strat with Jeff Richmond ? LOL!!!

  • I think we'll start with Jeff Richmond!

You are in first and last place!

    LOL!

First time I have ever seen one player playing in Final Jeopardy!

  • Holy automatically $5,000 to make it on the show ?? They must've done TERRIBLE !!

  • I would think that -$3,000 and -$600 would be pretty bad

  • what happens if he gets it wrong? .....just curious

  • There would have been no winner for that day, since $0 is never a winning score. Since this occurred during a tournament, I assume they would have filled his spot in the next round with a wild-card qualifier.

  • he still wins, just with less money.

  • Nothing at all. He would still advance I think

  • Well He Doing Solo!!!!

  • LOL That was really funny. Anybody know how many times this has happened over the years?

  • And Billy And Bernard. Were Gonna Half to say 'Goodbye to the 2 of you!'

  • Jeff was on super jeopardy

  • What if he had bet it all and got it wrong?

  • then he would of won the game with $0

  • You can't win with nothing...

Would they put, like, a wild-card spot or something?

  • There were no wild-card spots in the Ultimate Tournament, like Super Jeopardy, it was win-or-go home.

  • Taking the record for the lowest amount of money won in a game of Jeopardy.

  • @nhdrumline11 I think he would have lost and not been asked to come back the next day.... maybe get a 5000 dollar parting gift like the two bozos that didn't make it to final jeopardy

  • @nhdrumline11 I lol'd at this XD

  • @nhdrumline11 Than he would be embarrassed I would assume.

  • @nhdrumline11 he would still win

  • @nhdrumline11 He'd still have more than everyone else, so he'd still win.

  • @nhdrumline11 he would have won the game but not any money

  • -3000

  • If anyone else notices, they use the Korrina font for the Final J! answer that season @ :27 - the original font used back in the 90s and 80s for closing credits as well.

  • I wonder was this the 1st and only tim in the history of Jeopardy that 2 players couldn't play Final Jeopardy because they we're in the negative?

  • The point is that the contestant can earn more money.

  • What was the point of doing Final Jeopardy with only one guy in it? Couldn't they have chatted instead of playing final Jeopardy, I mean what the heck?

  • the chance to win more money...

  • gsnn dubbed it man against the house.

  • What's even more amazing is that since the last clue of the round was a Daily Double and Jeff got it, he could have wagered it all and there would be no one for Final Jeopardy!, but of course, he'd do no such thing. He only wagered $1,000 of his $12,800.

  • I love how Alex was sooooo sarcastic when he said, "Alright, I think we are going to start with Jeff." That's a good joke, especially if he was only winning by a dollar.

Next, why couldn't the studio people cut out Final Jeopardy because there was only one person left in the game?

Finally, if I were that person, I would just bet it all but a dollar. That would just be the sickest thing you'd ever see on Jeopardy if I got the answer wrong. What more can I say? It happens once in a blue moon.

  • They wouldn't cut out Final Jeopardy, cuz the guy can win more money for playing it.

  • I must have guessed that. I also must have guessed that something like this would happen, but I was not sure when until I saw it.

  • Has there ever been a game where all 3 players were disqualified from Final Jeopardy!? If so, what would they do?

  • I don't think so. If that happened, I think they choose 3 people from the audience and play Final Jeopardy.

  • I've read it happened at least once from Art Fleming's Jeopardy!. Instead of FJ!, they simply chatted some more.

  • @Gameshowboy I want to say it happened once in the original Art Fleming era, and Final Jeopardy was replaced with an interview with the three contestants.

  • @Gameshowboy Whether or not that's right, that is one of two cases in which a show would have no returning champion (as of the discontinuation of the five-day limit), the other being all (remaining) players wagering everything and blowing it in Final Jeopardy.

  • Do those audience members get any money won?

  • @Premonition45 I read on the Jeopardy Wikipedia article that this happened in the Art Fleming days, and Art just chatted with the contestants for the remaining time since no one was eligible for Final Jeopardy and they all lost.

  • @Premonition45

Only one that some people like me know of -- and it's from the Art Fleming era. When all three concluded DJ! in the negatives, no FJ! was played, and Fleming would be chatting with the contestants to fill the void caused by the unfortunate finish.

  • When did gsn show show's from the '80s?

  • That has to be the funniest thing in JEOPAYDY history!

  • When?

  • Oh, never mind. Thought it aired the other day or so, sorry about that... I get upsest at old episodes.

  • Wait a minute!! Did you say you see the 80's episode of J! on GSN!?!?!? WHEN WAS IT ON???? WOW!!!

  • Right now GSN is airing from Ken Jennings run.

WoF is from the 1990's, though.

  • Wrong, it debuted in 1981, but that was before Vanna came along in '83. So technically, Wheel has been on for 27 and not 25 years. Get your history right rickhh!

  • He means that GSN is airing the 1990s episodes. WOF debuted in the 1970s as a daytime verison. The nighttime verison debuted in 1983. So the nighttime wheel has been on for 26 years.

  • You're wrong Wheel debuted on January 6th, 1975 with Chuck and Susie you get your history right so technically Wheel has been on for 34 years

  • OK, Don't be mean to me whitsmygurl07. I thought rickhh was wrong, but I was wrong. So u were right.

  • Cumulatively, it's been on for 34 years..but when you're talking about the nighttime version ONLY, that would be 26 years.

  • Do you know who has it?

  • How do you know?

  • WOW! 1st person in Final J! Never seen that part before!

  • I'm just glad that Jeff, even though he played against the house, didn't pull a Clavin.

  • Oh, now I get it. Cliff Clavin. LOL

  • This was a rarity here. To have both of your opponents in the red and play the final round on your own makes Final Jeopardy look like a traditional game show bonus round; unlike Super Jeopardy '78-'79. I guess they just do it for comic effect to have one person play it; even though it's not neccesary it's fair to give Jeff a chance to earn more money. I give this moment 5 star because it's rare and Jeff & Alex had fun with it to it's full potential.

  • Even Ken Jennings wasn't able to accomplish what Jeff Richmond did, that is to eliminate both players from 'Final Jeopardy!'.
