The Falcon is better engineered for performance than the Taurus and, in my view, the best candidate for continuing the fleet-only Police Interceptor line beyond the P71.

the holden is definately more fun to drive and with some minor suspension modifications such as sway bars, springs, shocks, struts, castor bushes, the car will outhandle any ford by a longshot.
?????when buying a new car, why would you then want to change the whole suspension, it should be upto standard when you buy the thing, especially when its new????
well one, the fords suspension is not up to scratch especially in the V8. The engine weighs too much at nearly 300kg and understeers on turn in. even on the holden. the standard suspension is only average.

I have driven both and own a VE HSV GTS.
The ford is a better car than holden. It steers and handles better and also has better pedal feel and is more refined and quiter than the holden in the cabin. Reason I didn't get it, seats are not comfortable nor is the driving position. You cant drive it at the limits because its harder to control when driving hard and the holden has better IRS so you have more rear end control.
i just got a brand new 1 xr8 it is a stuning car and peformer.always had a holden before but you cant go wrong with d fg it tops d list i safety and power.go d fords

pretty good car, but i still dont understand why my BA MkII 4.0Litre 182kW/380Nm beats my brothers new FG XR6 with 8500ks on the clock, my BA simply drives away from FG XR6 N/A by 1.5 car lenghts after 50km/h! weird? 182kW/380Nm vs 195kW/391Nm? , same engine i know, though the FG should be 0.5s quicker than any BA, but in real life its not, its actually 97% of BAs performance!
Ditto that. I love the new Falcons, the Ute especially. Can't wait to get that one. We'll be getting the Ute as a Pontiac, late next year, but it's a rebadged Holden, rather than a Ford.
Honestly, I don't care which one we get. They're essentially the same truck, but I think Ford has the better front styling.
But, the Falcon Ute has a leg up on the Commodore Ute (Pontiac G8-ST), as it's not single body construction.
That's what would help the sales of it here in the states, actually having a ute that you can put a flatbed, or stake setup on would put it a a great advantage over the G8-ST.
And with Ford threatening to kill the Ranger (but they've done that since the early 90's) it would actually bring a type of replacement for it.
I like how Ford made their Ute, with the two different bed styles. More uses for one type of car. I'd think that would help with company expenses, too. Why spend more on making two totally different vehicles when you can have one perform the tasks of both? Better still, the Falcon Ute 'Work' looks awesome even with that flatbed. It's still got the cool feeling of the 'Play'. Why can't Ford US be like Ford AUS? I want these cars.
I've Talked to the bigs at Ford here in Minnesota about bringing Ford Aus. cars to the US market and they said that the conversion would cost them entirerly to much money for a struggling company to convert the car into the USDAM but if they could at least change the styling between Merc/Lincoln/Ford i would be happy i hate when you have 3 Manufacturers make the same car like chevy and pontiac do same car different name and they wonder y there broke and the 2010 stang is ugly as sin

My dad just bought the new Ford G6E turbo and its amazing,once you see them up close and in person it will change the way you think about ford. Its a million times better than a holden. We took the new holden Statesman for a test drive and it was an shocker it felt tinny and cheap, it had no power, and sounded like crap. The Ford G6E Turbo, on the other hand was great, it had a excellent drive to it and had everything,from IPOD integration to satellite navigation system,the sound was also great!

Cool looking car! I wish they would sell them in the U.S. It is sharper and more sporty than the Taurus, or the Fusion. It looks a little like a Mazda 6. It's a cool looking car. The grille looks like the Ford Verve Concept car I saw at the Cleveland OH Autoshow. The Verve is a small car which will probably replace the Focus. Does Ford sell Lincolns and Mercurys in Australia? Front wheel drive in the winter in Ohio is a necessity.We had a nasty snow storm last winter where we got 45 cm of snow in 36 hours. They may make another generation of Ford Focus out of it too. I have not owned a Ford product yet. My boat has a Pleasure Craft Marine Engine which is built from a 5.8 Litre V8 with 240 horsepower(not sure how to convert to Kw). It is a Ski Nautique. The engine has been very solid. Ford trucks are very popular in the states. I traded my 2001 Chrysler Sebring LXI in on a Pontiac G6 which I am guessing is the same size as a Holden Epica. The Holden Astra is sold as a Saturn Astra in the U.S.

The Falcon G6E is absolutetly beautiful. Looks like a bigger Mondeo with a much better look in the rear and very good interior. It would be lovely to see this car in Europe with the Ford's 2.7 Twin-Turbo Diesel or the 2.0 Turbo Diesel TDCi and a Station Wagon configuration I believe if it would be a success! It is funny that Ford of Europe and Australia do much better cars than it's American parent. Ah ah... Just look at the Ford Taurus and which one looks better??... :S
drive has test the new xr6 turbo sedan (just the turbo not the typhoon) vs the new hsv r8. the turbo does 0-100 in 5.1, and the r8 in 5.2 seconds. and thats the the standard turbo, wait til the typhoon! tho i must admit, the xr8 lacks balls bigtime

Very true. In fact, neither Ford nor Holden have been 'Australian' companies since the late forties. I've always been a 'Ford man' but have owned twice as many holdens as fords. I don't think i will buy either again due to the fact that the build quality is so bad from both. If you want something that will last more than a few months without a warranty claim then buy japanese!
It is accurate to say Ford is 'more' Australian then Holden. Ofcourse Ford source some parts from other countries. But Holden have not designed their own engine/gear box for what... 15 years? they just delve into their GM catalogue.

um..the design for the Falcon was finalised long before the VE was released. Holden more popular due to effective advertising and marketing not because they are a better car, quite the opposite. General public still think anything with a Holden badge is Australian, although their whole range are imported south Korean shitheaps,including the Commo, although it's assembled here.
The Commodore isn't imported from south Korea. The Barina, Viva, Epica & Captiva are the only ones imported. I had a BA XR6T (see my videos) and I sold it and got a VE SS because it was a much nicer car to drive.
Im sure the new Falcon will be a winner and who knows, I may buy one in 5 years time.
I take it the Astra is European? Just taking a stab at the Commodore because so much of it is imported even the steel for the thing is from China. Feel free to flame me, lol.

The 290kW FPV's best 0-100km/h run was 6.0seconds, the best run in the 270kW Holdens is 5.3 seconds. The HSV's best run with 307kW is 4.8 seconds. Ford are still lacking in quality in some areas and it is now misproportioned from side on. I hoped for much more than this
What a magic machine, poor VE will date so quickly due to its harsh and high belt lines in comparison to this silky machine. Also, Im sure the turbo sixes will better the 6.0 litre Chev as they did the LS1.
Jmmelnyk...have you seen the FG in the flesh? I was at the Melb. Motor Show...it has the same belt line as the commodore. The only critisism I have of the new Falcon is they've reduced space for the driver. I'm a tall guy so always loved the falcon and commodore for the room they give me, but with the steering wheel as far up and out as it would go, and the seat all the way down, my knees were banging into it...certainly couldn't drive a manual one! Otherwise, I reckon it looks pretty good.
Hi AndrewMSS, I should have said feature line rather than the belt line. Its just a little more harder and straight and points to the massive front fender lips, this would be more difficult to change over time. Anyway its my opinion, I still like the VE and believe its more revoltionary than the FG as the VZ was so different. Interesting about the steer wheel, as a big bloke, did you notice more room to get in with the higher a-piller?

pretty good car, but i still dont understand why my BA MkII 4.0Litre 182kW/380Nm beats my brothers new FG XR6 with 8500ks on the clock, my BA simply drives away from FG XR6 N/A by 1.5 car lenghts after 50km/h! weird? 182kW/380Nm vs 195kW/391Nm? , same engine i know, though the FG should be 0.5s quicker than any BA, but in real life its not, its actually 97% of BAs performance!

Honestly, I don't care which one we get. They're essentially the same truck, but I think Ford has the better front styling.

But, the Falcon Ute has a leg up on the Commodore Ute (Pontiac G8-ST), as it's not single body construction.
That's what would help the sales of it here in the states, actually having a ute that you can put a flatbed, or stake setup on would put it a a great advantage over the G8-ST.
And with Ford threatening to kill the Ranger (but they've done that since the early 90's) it would actually bring a type of replacement for it.

I like how Ford made their Ute, with the two different bed styles. More uses for one type of car. I'd think that would help with company expenses, too. Why spend more on making two totally different vehicles when you can have one perform the tasks of both? Better still, the Falcon Ute 'Work' looks awesome even with that flatbed. It's still got the cool feeling of the 'Play'. Why can't Ford US be like Ford AUS? I want these cars.

I've Talked to the bigs at Ford here in Minnesota about bringing Ford Aus. cars to the US market and they said that the conversion would cost them entirerly to much money for a struggling company to convert the car into the USDAM but if they could at least change the styling between Merc/Lincoln/Ford i would be happy i hate when you have 3 Manufacturers make the same car like chevy and pontiac do same car different name and they wonder y there broke and the 2010 stang is ugly as sin

But no, Americans want front wheel drive based cars like the new Taurus.(Because of snow and ice, and shit like that) The new AWD Turbo Taurus SHO is great, but it's overpriced and it just blends in with everything else out there right now. Other than looks. The SHO looks great, so does the regular Taurus. So does the Falcon, fuck all the new Fords Look better than ever.

My dad just bought the new Ford G6E turbo and its amazing,once you see them up close and in person it will change the way you think about ford. Its a million times better than a holden. We took the new holden Statesman for a test drive and it was an shocker it felt tinny and cheap, it had no power, and sounded like crap. The Ford G6E Turbo, on the other hand was great, it had a excellent drive to it and had everything,from IPOD integration to satellite navigation system,the sound was also great!

They need to attract byers from all ages, not just market it for the middle aged person. Cool looking car! I wish they would sell them in the U.S. It is sharper and more sporty than the Taurus, or the Fusion. It looks a little like a Mazda 6. With northeast Ohio winters we need front wheel drive. Are the Falcons front or rear wheel drive? Too bad the steering wheel is on the wrong side... :)

It's a cool looking car. The grille looks like the Ford Verve Concept car I saw at the Cleveland OH Autoshow. The Verve is a small car which will probably replace the Focus. Does Ford sell Lincolns and Mercurys in Australia? Front wheel drive in the winter in Ohio is a necessity.We had a nasty snow storm last winter where we got 45 cm of snow in 36 hours. Without front wheel drive I would not have got out of my driveway.

They may make another generation of Ford Focus out of it too. I have not owned a Ford product yet. My boat has a Pleasure Craft Marine Engine which is built from a 5.8 Litre V8 with 240 horsepower(not sure how to convert to Kw). It is a Ski Nautique. The engine has been very solid. Ford trucks are very popular in the states. I traded my 2001 Chrysler Sebring LXI in on a Pontiac G6 which I am guessing is the same size as a Holden Epica. The Holden Astra is sold as a Saturn Astra in the U.S.

The Falcon G6E is absolutetly beautiful. Looks like a bigger Mondeo with a much better look in the rear and very good interior. It would be lovely to see this car in Europe with the Ford's 2.7 Twin-Turbo Diesel or the 2.0 Turbo Diesel TDCi and a Station Wagon configuration I believe if it would be a success! It is funny that Ford of Europe and Australia do much better cars than it's American parent. Ah ah... Just look at the Ford Taurus and which one looks better??... :S

drive has test the new xr6 turbo sedan (just the turbo not the typhoon) vs the new hsv r8. the turbo does 0-100 in 5.1, and the r8 in 5.2 seconds. and thats the the standard turbo, wait til the typhoon! tho i must admit, the xr8 lacks balls bigtime

Very true. In fact, neither Ford nor Holden have been 'Australian' companies since the late forties. I've always been a 'Ford man' but have owned twice as many holdens as fords. I don't think i will buy either again due to the fact that the build quality is so bad from both. If you want something that will last more than a few months without a warranty claim then buy japanese!

It is accurate to say Ford is 'more' Australian then Holden. Ofcourse Ford source some parts from other countries. But Holden have not designed their own engine/gear box for what... 15 years? they just delve into their GM catalogue.
Even with Holden's American drive-line the all Australian drive line of Ford is a clear match.

um..the design for the Falcon was finalised long before the VE was released. Holden more popular due to effective advertising and marketing not because they are a better car, quite the opposite. General public still think anything with a Holden badge is Australian, although their whole range are imported south Korean shitheaps,including the Commo, although it's assembled here.

The Commodore isn't imported from south Korea. The Barina, Viva, Epica & Captiva are the only ones imported. I had a BA XR6T (see my videos) and I sold it and got a VE SS because it was a much nicer car to drive.
Im sure the new Falcon will be a winner and who knows, I may buy one in 5 years time.

I can't wait to see the new Falcon.....oh wait, that is the new falcon. What's changed? Disappointing. Even though the XR8 now has 290kW, it will still be slower than the Holden 270kW V8. The 290kW FPV's best 0-100km/h run was 6.0seconds, the best run in the 270kW Holdens is 5.3 seconds. The HSV's best run with 307kW is 4.8 seconds. Ford are still lacking in quality in some areas and it is now misproportioned from side on. I hoped for much more than this

What a magic machine, poor VE will date so quickly due to its harsh and high belt lines in comparison to this silky machine. Also, Im sure the turbo sixes will better the 6.0 litre Chev as they did the LS1.

Jmmelnyk...have you seen the FG in the flesh? I was at the Melb. Motor Show...it has the same belt line as the commodore. The only critisism I have of the new Falcon is they've reduced space for the driver. I'm a tall guy so always loved the falcon and commodore for the room they give me, but with the steering wheel as far up and out as it would go, and the seat all the way down, my knees were banging into it...certainly couldn't drive a manual one! Otherwise, I reckon it looks pretty good.

Hi AndrewMSS, I should have said feature line rather than the belt line. Its just a little more harder and straight and points to the massive front fender lips, this would be more difficult to change over time. Anyway its my opinion, I still like the VE and believe its more revoltionary than the FG as the VZ was so different. Interesting about the steer wheel, as a big bloke, did you notice more room to get in with the higher a-piller?

Now now, no need for name calling! The VE was designed in or around 2001. That would make it BEFORE the Ford Territory. Anyway, the ONLY mistake I made was to claim it was an AU Falcon when it is clearly based apon the EA Falcon platform. 22 years and still going. Now that really is impressive, you must admit.

NO - they DONT! Take a look at a EA turret - (roof) it is FLAT! A BA roof is CURVED, as are the DOORS that close up against it!

Come to Sydney, buy one and drive it back to WA (assuming it makes it back there). There is literally THOUSANDS for sale here. No one wants them. You have some of the best roads over there so driving it will be awesome, if your cops weren't so anal that is.

You CLEARLY proved your ignorance and lack of knowledge when you said "You can take the doors off a BF and bolt them onto a EA"!!!
What I have stated is FACT, proven quite simply by showing you the roof structures of both cars are vastly different, thus the doors are too!
And again, was the EA chassis able to accomdate 4WD, control blade IRS, and the new aluminium sump introduced on the BA?? HMM?? (OF COURSE NOT!)

OK OK OK, you win. You're right. Fords are the best. They are completely new and the best car on the planet. I'm just off to buy 3 of them for myself. Three XR6 Turbo's (the ones with the EB engines with the American Turbo and the German 6 speed auto). Best Aussie car ever !!
