if I can convince you not to go to Berklee I totally would. It depends on your reason for auditioning but even if you made it in I suggest you turn it down and attend a different college. . . we get these hordes of n00bs with their parents like every week and the tour guide is just cramming bullshit down their throats. it's NOT what it appears to be but if you don't take my word for it then try it out for a single semester and see how you like it...

@ImaFez what I'm saying is even if you're good ... like virtuoso good. It doesn't amount to shit because it's a school that's focused on profit and popularity. That and you will NOT find anyone who's that good unless they play something other than a drum set or electric guitar even though guitarists comprise the second highest population next to vocalists (that should say something right there too) it costs a LOT of money and what you're paying for is the luxury of having Berklee on a resume

@ImaFez this might be my 5th semester coming up and all the success that I've had was outside of the berklee community (posting videos and exposing them to the right people) if you want to learn drums I can tell you right now you'll get a lot more out of torrenting DVDs for free while learning them in the comfort of your own home without worrying about stupid shit and being ignored by the staff. They treat those who cannot bring them profit like shit. there's a lot more to say about this...

@ImaFez The degree won't help you get a gig; it might not even get you a job (I'm still wondering what i'm going to do to pay these INSANE loans we're talkin 50+k per year with accruing interests) people do find great networking opportunities here but I guess just try one semester out and you'll see what I mean ...you might get lucky though there are opportunities everywhere ...but from experience I regret ever stepping foot in this college

First of all I think you play that song very well and I would like to ask you a few questions. I auditioned with something I'd say with the same level of complexity and i didn't pass. It was a funk song with a solo included, so I just wanna know if maybe you made a great interview or maybe your sight reading skills are excellent, perhaps your call and response it's great. Did you add anything extra to your prepared piece during the audition?

@athalas the interview has maybe 5% to do with their decision. they are looking for versatility and potential. Good reading skills and a good ear for melodic notes as well as good sense of rhythm. you're more likely to make it in if you play a jazz tune and don't let anyone tell you otherwise jazz is like exalted in this school and if you're a girl you'll have a MUCH greater chance at making it in. other than that I say don't go to this school unless you're rich and apathetic about the future
