I found that my sidewinder x8 mouse only lags when attempting to charge and use it at the same time. I unplug the charger and go wireless, and it works perfectly.
Another surface test - the other table I have has a mate white plexiglass cover. G9 works flawlessly on it and X8 jitters and is totally unusable.
The last Microsoft mouse I had was that white simple optical mouse with red light under it and on the lower back. It was the first optical mouse I saw that didn't need a special pad. I remember it didn't work well on most surfaces but it was way better that ball mice. X8 doesn't track much better. This mouse is for mouse pads only. Ye Be Warned.

I thought you are talking about the shape of the mouse. I've bought one yesterday and now I can't figure out how to place my hand over it to make it comfortable in a way comparable to G7 or G9. The pinkie-rest on the right side is somewhat puzzling me. And the scrolling wheel is terrible, slippery and intractable.

It's quite seldom that you find someone that has made the decision that I'm wavering on right now. I currently own a G9x, and am quite happy with it. But I do feel that it's too small as well. Though, as for the adjustable weight, I would assume that's there for the same reason as the interchangeable feet on the X8. Which is basically affecting the way the mouse glides on it's surface. Lighter making less weight for friction and such. Great review, though. I believe I'll order me an X8 now! :D
Ooh and also, you forgot to mention that you can change the colours in the G9x's speed indicator. Can you do that with the X8? (Kind of a weak 'selling point' but I do like to have that option xD)

the fuckin cable of my fuckin G9 broke cuz logitech failed @ packaging (the cable was folded VERY rough), so now Im getting a sidewinder.

I'd have to agree, G9 is definitely easier on small hands (I have incredibly tiny hands) and for those who do a claw grip (more with your fingers, less with your palm, allows for better accuracy for most people).
I can not stand corded mice. Just too limiting & most of them are very small. I went from an MX Revolution to this x8. MX was great just over 4 years old & starting to act up.

a lot of the people here in the comments dont seem to understand how to use the G9 (not saying X8 is bad). its a FINGERTIP mouse so youre not meant to palm it. anyways i have a G9X and my friend has an X8, both are great mice for different people. i really like the precision grip for the G9 but the middle mouse button sucks. and apparently the scrolling on the X8 sucks.
that quick launch button is supposed to open up the button configuration and let u be able to change sensitivity if u have vista or 7 i think it opens up ur games that come with the windows program
x8 is better cos of comfort, i have the x5 and g9, i bought the g9 thinking it was better, but i sold it 1 month later, the full size palm grip on the x5 allows more control in shooting and the ability to easily pickit of the mouse pad and put it back down quickly (gamers do that when moving)
u notice if one of them has better lazer then the other? these are optimal mice for gaming and thats the most important to me since i like medium low sensitivities in fast paced games ... many mice on the market are "nice nice nice nice nice" and u pick em up to play and u realise their lazer technology is cheap with low sens... =p

In my opinion this mouse is awkward, and I was very disappointed when I got it, replacing my Logitech MX518. I'm returning and getting the Mamba (+$35). On paper the X8 has good features: charger design, buttons, response time. But it has some inexcusable weaknesses: it's too heavy to not have changeable weights; the scroll wheel just feels wrong; the buttons have WAY too much resistance for gaming; it is too big. And my hands are average size. Try it at a store before you buy it. I wish I did.
Yes, I just decided to return the X8 after using it for a day. It is uncomfortable, and the buttons are actually kinda hard to press down. It is nothing like the nimble and fast Logitech / Razer gaming mice. I'm going to just spend ~$35 more for the Razer Mamba.
SAME, I ditched it after a day as well. The macro button is always getting pressed, too. I couldn't figure out why I was jumping around when I tried to aim down the sights lol. I'm a happy G9 owner now.

Dunno why people are down rating this comment, these are all perfectly valid complaints I've heard from multiple sources. The complaints being the hump at the back is way too big and uncomfortable for all but the gargantuan handed.
The wheel is low quality, loads of people complain about it, and I've seen dozens of posts from people who have got an X8 with wonky feet. It's not every mouse but some of them aren't put together properly and rock on two feet when on a flat surface.

I am not sure about it really, but I've seen it in reviews. I currently have the old SideWinder mouse that I've had for 2 years and it only has 3 dpi settings. So I can't really confirm it
@Nihat007 actually it's right that when you get it there are only 3 settings, but if you install the software you can (like on the G9, change the settings to 5 options) so at all both mice got 5 options, I know it cause i own them both and the X8 rocks!

X8 SUCKS! Fat ass mouse with the WORST wheel design ever! The metal makes it hard to scroll fast and accurate. I'm a finger gripper and rest the heel of my hand on the desk to get more precise mouse control. If you put your whole hand on a mouse, you will be less accurate. Plus, the X8 side buttons are hard to reach due to fat hump. Big hands can adjust to a small mouse, but not the other way around! X8 should have come with 2 shell sizes like G9. X8 is the worst mistake ever!

The Mamba hits its key demographic square on the nose, that demographic being people with more money than sense.
It costs around 40% more than the X8 and offers fewer features. It's laser is pointlessly higher quality (youre kidding yourself if you think you need more than 4000 DPI) and the charger is a significantly worse design.

Some people prefer a heavy mouse while some like a lighter mouse. I prefer a heavier mouse so using a mouse with weights has nothing to do with being leet lol. Liked the review though.

the x8 doesnt have only three settings, you can do 1,2,3 the 3 again and 1,2,3 it has six, when you press the 3 the second time it goes down to 1 but increases the dpi
Your wrong... the X8 has 5 settings as well. You use the top button and and click it again for the fourth setting and click it again for the fifth setting. (or someting like that) Read the manual.

Nice video. I was actually debating on whether to get the G9, X8 or the X3. I went with the G9, but the sidewinders are nice too.

No it seems pretty static and built in.. The settings do not have any other options but to change the sensetivity.
Hope that helps and if you need lots of buttons go check out the Razor Naga mouse that has 17 customisable buttons right on the mouse.

Well, that happened from the macro button constantly getting pressed. I meant the character in-game was jumping around. I was using an aluminum mousepad though.

I bought this mouse about 1 weak ago.i can't use the sides buttons just uncomfortably the mouse too big ,the mouse moves I mean the the lay of it is not stable(tried all of feet)The movement of this mistake its absolutely not little. 1mm about.
This way is useless for games but otherwise useless for all too 4 me..
And the movement of the scrolling its so loud and still hard to roll also.Though it was really expensive I use my regular Logitech mouse while I swap it back

Dunno why people are down rating this comment, these are all perfectly valid complaints I've heard from multiple sources. The complaints being the hump at the back is way too big and uncomfortable for all but the gargantuan handed.
The wheel is low quality, loads of people complain about it, and I've seen dozens of posts from people who have got an X8 with wonky feet. It's not every mouse but some of them aren't put together properly and rock on two feet when on a flat surface.

wow in contrast to your hands both mice look reeeeaally small^^ im using a sidewinder (and older model) and i think its is to big for my hands so i gonna upgrade to g9

The X8 has 5 dpi settings as well. When you press the top one, you can press it two more times to increase the dpi up to 4000.

no you can't, you sure your not thinking of the old sidewinder?, people keep claiming this but no one can explain how.
The options only allow you to set 3 settings, not 5. Every manual and review I've looked at states 3 settings. Microsoft even says 3.
All these people claiming there are 5, do you actually own one? The next person to say 5 settings, please prove it with a link or video response.

I am not sure about it really, but I've seen it in reviews. I currently have the old SideWinder mouse that I've had for 2 years and it only has 3 dpi settings. So I can't really confirm it

@Nihat007 actually it's right that when you get it there are only 3 settings, but if you install the software you can (like on the G9, change the settings to 5 options) so at all both mice got 5 options, I know it cause i own them both and the X8 rocks!

@Nihat007 I actually own one and there IS 5 settings, from 250 - 4000, all you have to do is tap the top button 2 more times to go from 3 to 4 to 5.

X8 SUCKS! Fat ass mouse with the WORST wheel design ever! The metal makes it hard to scroll fast and accurate. I'm a finger gripper and rest the heel of my hand on the desk to get more precise mouse control. If you put your whole hand on a mouse, you will be less accurate. Plus, the X8 side buttons are hard to reach due to fat hump. Big hands can adjust to a small mouse, but not the other way around! X8 should have come with 2 shell sizes like G9. X8 is the worst mistake ever!

Great review. I'm shopping for a wireless mouse I can use for gaming, and liked the side by side comparison you had. Given I have big hands, I palm my mouse so I think I'll give the sidewinder a try.

The Mamba hits its key demographic square on the nose, that demographic being people with more money than sense.
It costs around 40% more than the X8 and offers fewer features. It's laser is pointlessly higher quality (youre kidding yourself if you think you need more than 4000 DPI) and the charger is a significantly worse design.

Design wise yeah its a good shape but you can get the same shape from the Death Adder for half the price the rest of the design is nothing to write home about.The wire connector is awful
And speaking from experience(ive had 3 high end Razers)the buttons will feel smooth for about 6 months before the switches start acting up

Some people prefer a heavy mouse while some like a lighter mouse. I prefer a heavier mouse so using a mouse with weights has nothing to do with being leet lol. Liked the review though.

the x8 doesnt have only three settings, you can do 1,2,3 the 3 again and 1,2,3 it has six, when you press the 3 the second time it goes down to 1 but increases the dpi

Your wrong... the X8 has 5 settings as well. You use the top button and and click it again for the fourth setting and click it again for the fifth setting. (or someting like that) Read the manual.
