Chris De Burgh has what I call an "anointed" voice, as does Celine Dione. Songs that get past the soul and right into your spirit...that's a gift from heaven.

I have written this message in hope that my dear friend Milly may read it. I have been trying to locate her, but sadly I've had no joy. I know she is a fan of Chris de Burgh so I live in hope that she reads this message and contacts me. Milly previously lived in Folkestone and worked for my mother. I let the best thing that ever happened to me slip through my fingers, even if too much has happened for a relationship to develop, I would also be happy to have her as a friend. Sam x
Chris you were my rock in the Gulf war one (Op Granby) lying in the desert under a star light night with my headphones on watching the jets fly over head on their bombing runsto iraq with you playing into my ears something that will stay with me forever takes me back, peace to all man.
This is one of my favorite tracks on "The Getaway" album. I never imagined I'd ever get to see him perform it. This is just wonderful! What a great surprise. Thanks so much for posting it for all of us DeBurgh fans.
This is a fantastic performance of this song !!! I remember this was recorded for a video/DVD. It was a benefit for the victims of the fire in a café in Volendam Holland on a New Years day . Does anybody if the video or DVD is still available ?
@MrTrolleyharry This performance was from a Songs of Praise episode back in 2006. The one you are referring to was a benefit concert for fire victims in Volendam . I managed to pick up a copy off ebay. cdeb.com may also sell it.
@transmissionends64 , thank you for respond. Meanwhile I´ve seen footage from the Volendam Benefit. So now I know this was indeed another performance.
I cant beleive that everyone keeps going on about religion and science when they listen to Chris De Burgh, he has an amazing voice and is a brilliant song writer! just feel it!
Neither can I. I saw him being interviewed about 20 years ago and he was asked about the meaning of Don't pay the ferryman, his reply was that he wrote songs that would conjure strong visual images, meaning was not part of the process. So if people see a religous connotation in this song then he's succeeded in creating an image.
Or, more bluntly, if you see religion in this song then it's all in your mind.
Did "rafhenlow" in your comment really call evolution, "claptrap". You really should read something, if you are able, about the world. And guess what., its older than ,10,000 years old. If you dont believe me then let me just say one word to you... Dinosaur! peace and love
it´s soo beautiful.. tears drop down.. can´t handle it to stop!
Just that I love his music but I am not a fan of his religious leanings. This song is from a spiritual church sponsored show on the BBC, I think. It's set in a church, etc. But hey, freedom of speech, right?
Hmmm... ok Jahrzehnte kenn ich ihn nicht^^ Aber auch ich mit meinen 20 Jahren höre ihn immer gerne wieder^^ Sowol alte Stücke wie Borderline und Lady in Red, als auch neuere Stücke wie The words i love you... einfach nur großartig^^

Perhaps the most influencial person to walk the earth. As well as his music inspiring the eventual fall of the berlin wall, his words of wisdom and the way he lives outside of music are a constant example to the rest of humanity. Future civilisations will look back on ours and wonder how we overlooked such a visionary.
Many people are overlooked by the masses of their own generations and only find the recognition deserved after they are gone, for examples of such, a brief look into our most reveared artists, such as Monet, Picasso etc shows us how easily genius can be overlooked. For many, the price of being ahead of ones time is learning that even by death the world is still catching up.
Chris is one of the best out there - he would be able to compete with the best - i saw him in Belfast and he was the only artist i knew whom song his songs for three hours stright with out a break - KEEP UP THE GREAT MUSIC !!!
Chris de Burgh is a great musician, his voice is unique and he is a very nice person. His jokes are funny. He does not have to pick on other people all the time -like Bailey does- to be successful.
