  • gud one....

  • He actually changed the lyrics purposely to "chase the tracks of time" in correlation to laynes heroin addiction

  • Yep, this one is FOR YOU!! Ya YOU! {:0)

  • dumb ass

  • this is an awsome cover "rosychica" get ur shit straight!! u dont know what the hell ur talkin about obviously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please keep ur stupid comments to ur dumb ass self!!!

  • Would have been a good cover if he at least had the respect to learn the right lyrics, it get's frustrating listening to all these people and bands destroy such beautiful songs. If you can't even get the words right don't fucking sing it !

  • @rosychica you do not play anything do you ''had the respect to learn the right lyrics'' joke. Destroy a song ?? Sounds good to me

  • @rosychica I dont hear anything wrong with this. Its a great cover. And thats coming from a musicians p.o.v. And what fucking lyrics do you think he's singing wrong? Cuz if anything your wrong cuz you prolly never read the actual lyrics.

  • This is flawless technical performance but doesn't have much feeling or originality in it.

  • i love jim morrison janis joplin kurt cobain jimi hendrix sid vicious they all died young but if i could bring somebody back it would be layne staley he was such a great artist and a beautiful soul

  • thank you for this amazing cover!

  • apparently 95 people like to suck dick more then listen to good music

  • @D3THSL1T

    lol

  • Those who disliked this would probably dislike anyone's cover of this song. Aaron did it justice, like you guys said. He knows how to capture emotion in a similar way to Layne. The unplugged version of Alice in Chains isn't a whole lot different, anyways. Like Aaron has said in his interviews, all covers come out of respect. He's not setting out to outdo the person who did the song originally. In fact, I don't think he feels that he could. This is a great cover and Staind also has a unique sound

  • I always been a big of fan of Layne but Aaron did one hell of a job covering this song.

  • Nothing compares to alice in chains but this is still a damn good cover

  • Nice job!

  • Can't decide if he messed up or if he just doesn't know the right lyrics. It's "face the path of time" not "chase the tracks of time". Haha i'm still a fan!

  • @Buckommander I always wondered this too until I did some research. He changed it to "chase the tracks of time" on purpose as to reference Layne's heroin addiction... hence "tracks" of time, talking about the scars left behind from heroin injections which are also known as tracks.

  • @reynoldsalex6 Thats interesting! I would have never guessed that he would have done that. Puts a relevant spin on it though and it sounds great.

  • he does a pretty good lane imprssion

  • the best cover of this SONG : COREY TAYLOR 92.3

  • It was good and no disrespect to Aaron, but no one can sing it like Layne did.

  • @00rustynail yup and shaun of seether and brent of shindedown blow this cover out of the water.

  • @00rustynail that's no lie.. he def had a one of a kind voice...

  • Humble the staind group, show how needed His vocals were.

  • he made this song even more depressive !

  • Not too bad...Rip Layne..

  • he did a gr8 cover.cmplete justice 2 AIC n especially Layne.....u rocked man.R.I.P.

  • rubbish

  • you know im a guy an this song brought me to tears

  • By far, this is the best Nutshell cover I've ever heard. It's a little hard to cover Nutshell and Nirvana songs do to Lane's and Kurt's unique voices. Kinda ironic, two great bands, with two great singers, two unique voices, all in the same era. This is just an opinion but I think one band that resembles these bands is Dead Confederate. I SAID KINDA! Check out "The Rat" acoustic by Dead Confederate.

  • This is one of my favorite songs from Alice in chains and staind you couldn't have performed it any better

  • Staind. You guys did a great job.

  • In my top 3 emotional songs along with:

    Disconecktie- Norma jean

    Cherished- still remains

    Great song!

  • I still cant believe aaron lewis says he "sold out" by doing this type of music staind was a kickass band and i know it helped a lot of young kids through some rough shit......that "dont take my guns stayoff my land dont tread on me me" shit he says is the real him is empty and hateful...smh.

  • 2:03 hahahaha look at the drummer

  • Having heard them both, I think Alice in Chains did a MUCH better job.

  • @kyleclutter1 Duh...Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell are awesome together. NOONE Can match that harmonizing. I give Aaron Lewis credit here, though, he sounds very good.

  • @kyleclutter1 I respet Your Comment, But I Think You Fail To See This is A Tribute To The Late Great Layne Staley, Give Respect Where its Due.

  • Good cover. Besides their own great songs, they do a killer Tool cover...

  • Staind is the fat version of Alice in Chains.

  • SOMETIMES A COVER IS A TRIBUTE TO AN ARTIST THEY RESPECT. LIVE WITH IT.

  • lol obviously its not better than layne cause he wrote it trolls. quit hating on artists covering songs just cause they are signed doesnt mean that they cant cover songs exactly like any musician.

  • the sunken gardens is one of the greatest venues ive ever been to...Like if you've been stoned on the Gardens Rocks!!

  • Aaron great vocals but this is Layne's song and NOBODY can ever compare...some covers are better left alone. Greatest fucking song ever.

  • I love the cover he hit it in a nutshell! I love when bands pay tribute to the greatest singer ever! As an AIC fan I thank you! RIP Layne we all miss you <3

  • Awesome cover of an awesome song. Layne and Aaron have some of the best voices of any singers in their respective genres.

  • The falsettos are probably the hardest part to sing.

  • random sidenote - both Alice In Chains & Nirvana threw down their most EPIC performances ever (by far) @ MTV unplugged... ironically the lead singers both die soon after

  • Brilliant cover. Let's just leave it at that shall we? Personally I think it's a brilliant tribute to an amazing musician and I find it hard to hate one incredibly talented musician covering an another. Let's start hating Layne while we are at it shall we?Maybe we should start hating on every other kid that learned to play this song as he's picking up the guitar. Just saying.

  • This is one of those songs... Which emotional tugs makes me want to cry. "If I can't be my own - I'd feel better dead"... Well what if you couldn't get to where you were your own... *Sighs* What a tragic life he must have had..

  • Happy Birthday Layne Staley, 44 years old.

  • Wow...Im really impressed...sounds almost identically the chains!

  • Brilliantly sung!! The lead guitar guy with the stupid long hair has played crap!! Amen!

  • who says layne was the best person to sing this song? he was just the first one to sing it.

  • He has a good voice for this song.

  • Beautiful. Thanks Aaron for sharing your talent with this in this amazing tribute to the great Layne Staley.

  • check mine out if you got time

  • I love this tribute! R.I.P Layne Staley, and Mike Starr

  • i think he sounds damn good. who cares if hes not layne.

  • the 90 fags who disliked this must not be a alice in chains fan or a staind fan

  • i'm not really a staind fan but this is really good. thanks for uploading

  • My all time favorite by my boi Lewis!!!! I'm going to get him to play this at my funeral..........

  • @oxychild4 You'll be dead, so ugh.... How are "YOU" supposed to be able to do that? My word of advice is put it in your will lol ^_^

  • I fucking hate staind but I like nutshell and had to hear it and it sounds good

  • Staind are so awesome how much feeling and emotion they put into this cover and "Black" by Pearl Jam. It feels just as good as listening to the original

  • layne is smiling now

  • i think he did a damn good job

  • @rwss760 Agreed. He did it justice. :)

  • Its sounds soooo gooood, ofc nothing compared to original, but it is only a cover in the first place. Respect for people who still remember Layne and carry on his legacy.

  • i seen aaron lewis on the cover of hightimes looking very high. I wonder if he struggled with opiates or something harder. lord knows im a sucked for a shot or some black tar

  • Layne would be so happy with this. They did a great job capturing the feeling of the song.

  • being covered by a great band is the biggest form of flattery. Layne would be proud

  • Comment removed

  • i love this cover. staind did an amazing cover

  • sounds amazing. thanks

  • Excellente Supremo!

  • Cool

  • Awesome !

  • i agree just shut the fuck up and enjoy

  • staind is an amazing band. couldnt ask for better talent to do a cover of the legendary Alice in Chains.

  • nice cover

  • This is so much better than I thought it was gonna be. Great cover.

  • arron lewis did a great job. no he isnt layne but he did an amazing job.

  • great cover love AiC, Lewis did an outstanding job of covering this song! No one else would have even come close to layne's original, but Lewis did!

  • 88 people suck so bad..... only Staind can cover such an incredible song, no offense to Seether and Shinedown though, they too are awesome bands..... Aaron Lewis "pwns"<<< god i hate that typo that caught on lol...... OWNS mother f***ers!!! haha

    Peace!!

    Rock On!!

  • awesome cover

  • one of the better covers i've heard in a long long time.

  • <3 perfect!!!!!

  • Staind always has the best choices for covers and does such a great job with them. RIP Layne

  • @QwiKSc0pe can you suggest more of their covers? I only found turn the page and nothing else matters.

  • Good cover. Agreed.

  • Excellent Cover RIP Layne!!!!

  • OF COURSE this sin't better then Layne's ORIGINAL version, but then it's NOT SUPPOSED TO BE!!!! It's a tribute to someone who Aaron Lewis has openly said was a MAJOR influence to his own singing. Aaron lewis is NOT a bad singer, and frankly Layne Staley was one of if not THE greatest singer of the Grunge era (RIP)... I think it's pretty awesome that Aaron chooses to honor the greats like he does... Covering Black and now Nutshell... it's a great cover, STOP comparing to the original...idiots

  • aaron lewis is truley amazing i would have never thought back when they came out he woukd come this far!

  • stop hating, aaron lewis covered this because layne staley was one of his good friends.if people actually knew music then they would know that.so stop with the stupid hatred bullshit comments.

  • Great cover guys!

  • This is amazing. AMAZING to the max.

  • poor

  • eh...

  • so many dislikes i dont understand it its a great cover

  • This is a cover guys... calm down.

  • @SoWachuWan yea i'm sure staind wasn't trying to one up one of the greatest songs of all time. they did a damn good job though.

  • been there and still struggling with my addiction with cocain been doing it since i was 12 im 30 now but i have been 1 month sober from that shit it still fucking ponders in my head i hurt alot of poeple and i hate that god i wish i was normal

  • molto bella anche questa versione di nutshell, bella bella

  • Beautiful Cover

  • It's funny when people get mad at other bands covering their songs, when really the band who is doing the cover IS CARRYING THE MEANING AND SOUL of the song, even though they didnt create it, their still giving it feeling. Have you ever listened to APC do a cover of Imagine from John Lennon?? You should because they play it like their is no hope in the world, it tells us we need peace. STOP BEING CRITIQUES!!

  • @BigRockMusicFan-Problem is, APC's cover of Imagine sucked whale cum, too.

  • @MAC616 What because it wasn't John Lennon?

  • @MAC616 You are entitled to your opinion. But A perfect circle's cover is an awesome cover and the practical situation of lennon's song. Also they maintain their originality in their cover. And I don't understand Why i am even arguing on this awesome video of staind's cover of AIC.

  • @BigRockMusicFan I totally agree people of this generation don't know what real music is the whole point of making music

  • Respond to this video... Nowadays music is just a way to make big bucks and its sickening

  • @742Brian Yeah really, that's why I try to refrain from the "hard rock" music on the radio, I like Folk rock, Prog rock, grunge rock, some indie.

  • @BigRockMusicFan maby so, but this cover is crap, layne is rolling in his grave.

  • @19mordred Layne would be proud..

  • @19mordred

shut up guy. I'm a huge alice in chains fan and there is not a single album i like by staind. But this cover is done beautifully. Maybe you don't understand the song, layne staley or the fact that aaron lewis can relate. Layne isn't rolling in his grave because he thinks this cover is awful, hes rolling in his grave because of fans like you who have no idea what they're talking about.

  • @koalabacon who am i to say what layne thinks? i have to much respect to the guy to say so. and im more then sure i understad this music more then you could ever what to.

  • @19mordred Irrelevant to my argument. I could care less about how well you interpret the music (all music is up to individual interpretation, is it not?). You hate the cover because its by Aaron lewis, disregarding that its actually done well. Stop acting like a douche. The fact of the matter is Aaron Lewis has enough artistic merit to not only cover the song, but to capture the same emotion that Layne put into it.

  • @koalabacon you are right, but i can never give Aaron Lewis the same respect as layne, i also think its strange how two somewhat same people are fighting over something so small..............

  • @BigRockMusicFan a perfect circle right, you know i havnt listened to much of it but I love tool, could you recommend an album, i should buy from them, i wouldntt know where to start

  • @axel4clover1 I would start with their first album "Mer de Noms" which was released in 2000. APC has the lead singer of Tool (Maynard James Keenan) and the guitarist of Ashes Divide, along with other members of the band, I got their second album "Thirteenth Step" on my birthday which was like 2 months ago.

  • @BigRockMusicFan thanks man

  • @axel4clover1 Tool's albums "Undertow" or "Aenima" would be a good start..

  • heartbreaking song man, considering what its about...its tragic. RIP Layne.

  • check out my cover, its fucking horrible ;p

  • rest in peace layne, lost but never forgotten, keep representing, beutifull cover.

  • Best cover of nutshell that ive listened to so far, But no1 can beat layne!! I love aaron, just miss the old AIC!!!! R.I.P LAYNE STALEY!!!

  • tired

  • Great cover , never new this was out there . Thanks for posting .

  • Love this song

  • or how about!! Alice in Chains + Staind = 2 great bands. now shut your fucking holes, retards :D

  • A cover, just as the tilte states BUT a bloody excellent cover by quality musicians top work

  • love this man

  • I love this cover and all but, it really bothers me how he tweaked the words >.<

Its supposed to be, "We face he path of time"

NOT "We chase the tracks of time"

Other than that, this is lovely =]

  • People seriously need to shut the fuck up over it "not being better than Layne." He isn't trying to be better than Layne, he's just performing the song because Aaron himself loved Alice in Chains and Staley. As the saying goes: "Nothing is better than the original," but nonetheless this is a great cover. Period.

  • @ODX999 I totally agree with you, he wasnt trying to be as good as Layne, no one will ever be no offense to William DuVall, but Aaron Lewis is just paying tribute to a legendary singer. ppl just need to chill, its great that other artist are keeping Layne's memory alive and kicking.

  • @ODX999 YES. <33

  • @ODX999 ...... Well said.. Cant say it any better...

  • @ODX999 well said. Lewis isn't trying to out-do Layne at all. Staind is just showing their respects to aic and staley.

  • @ODX999 Although it's a bit disrespectful to change the words to "trace the tracks of time" (as I believe he is singing exactly), this could be a play on Layne's drug addiction, or it could be the Mr. Aaron was too high himself to remember the actual words...

  • @Silvercordband Im sure theres deeper artistic merit to the words aaron lewis chose. Aaron Lewis is a huge crack head, in case you didnt know. Im sure he understands more deeply the words of layne stalely than you or I. He's not trying to bullshit the song

  • @koalabacon He doesn't do crack, he's uses weed.

  • @LordRucifel Maybe not anymore, but he was a big crack head and had his own ups and downs with drug abuse.

  • holy fuck man... he's not trying to be Layne... booo hoo he fucking killed himself.

Great cover man. Actually better than any other ones I've seen on here.

  • @roji556 Eat a dick cocksmoker. I, will; punctuate-/' any: way! I, want> to' or maybe I just will give you mum a Cleveland steamer?.... Again.

  • not bad - but not layne

  • I love AIC and Layne even more! Layne's voice was truly amazing! Epic! I thought Aaron Lewis did an awesome job! I also love the song Layne by Staind! Give the guy some credit/props. He gave a heartfelt tribute to one of the greatest bands ever! Thanks for keeping their music alive! He does say trace the tracks of time. It should be we face the path of time. Oh well. Love it.

  • @ssmittyj33 i think this is the closest thing you could get to the Layne version... kudos to aaron and staind for making a cover of this amazing song.

  • Comment removed

  • he should been in aic instead of duvall

  • wow cried when i heard this

  • great tribute....

  • layne was good and it would be awesome if he was still around rocking. but aaron lewis does a kick ass job on this song. to anyone saying he does not. lets see you try and do better..... seriously! hate negativity!!!

  • I think it's a beautiful thing that he is paying tribute to Layne. Of course he can't sing it with the same feeling as Layne--these are Layne's words and Layne's heart in this song...but it's a beautiful tribute regardless.

  • I love Staind and Alice In Chains, forever. <3

  • NO WAY!!! i want my 4:16 BACK!!! RIP, LAYNE!

  • Yeah, he definatley said "trace the Tracks of Time" which is completely wrong. I have sung this song on stage quite a few times. Im not really sure if it is "Copyright Infringement" to sing the exact words due to poetic liscence. The amount of correclty done cover songs out there would leave me to believe it isn't. Regardless Aaron Lewis is paying tribute to the Greatest vocalist and the Greatest band ever by covering it... correctly or not. Layne and Mike, you are greatly missed.

  • Shit me you stupid little
