The sled was from Jonas' memory. It was the first one he had. That was what it meant in the story that this was something only he could enjoy.

Its not a cliffhanger. They both die. Gabe dies when it describes how cold he is. The sled was just Jonas's imagination. Plus if it was a clff hanger we would have seen a second book by now. The Giver was published in '96.

it would have been better if you just added black and white plus having the kid in your hands to make it look more like the scene. Also guys...To make this book really work you have to work on it consistently. And start filming the giver around october... so when winter does come, you can do the ending part of the book easily. Also for this scene...YOU HAVE TO HAVE A STORM HAPPENING. It has to look like snow is coming down extremely hard. But down have a real little kid in that storm!

You have to consider that many 'newchildren' were already almost one when given away and since Gabe was given another year he might have been almost two when him and Jonas started running.
