  • You've got some stuff... Does melody maker worth the money?

  • @megamicron : I really hink so

  • you can sat what you want about the finish but you dont hear the finish do you

  • Great demo of the cleaner types of tone from this guitar - I heard one comment about poor quality of finish for the Melody Maker, but feedback in the Gibson forum suggests that this was a one-off experience.

What was the quaity of your instrument like? Any problems with frets or neck?

  • @AlanSturgess : no problems at all, even three years later

  • @realdocloco Thanks - that seems to confirm the majority view.

  • @AlanSturgess I think that largely this is just some bullshit that has been propagating. I own a few of these (all modified), but no paint issues whatsoever.

  • this guitar sounds amazing. I'm in awe. Price is accessible. Great playing too, good job!

  • does it play like a les paul?

  • @philbillrecords kinda, it was originaly introduced as a les paul. i love mine. if you are looking into them, i recomend a 2 pick up

  • what a guitar

  • Comment removed

  • 0:39 love the truffle shuffle

  • best 400 dollar guitar i have ever heard

  • @GoHabs13

Then apparently you have not heard an agile 3100.

The melody maker sounds thin and tinny to my ears.

  • THIS IS A SONG?! i love it from0:26

  • Well done! I love the Irish tour album and this sounded just like it.

  • Since it doesnt seem like anyone has asked, what song are you playing, and if you made it up, TABS lol, it sounds amazing.

  • It's "Million miles away" by the late Rory Gallagher - listen to it on the "Irish tour '74" album

  • this gibson in the UK ive seen for around £330 is nothing compaird to actual les pauls the sound isnt as sustainable but still give's out a awesome kick but the wrap over bridge gives a approximate intination. personally as i have both i prefer my limited edition lp much mmore sustainable and nicer sound, alough its a very good alternitive if you dont have the money.

  • would this be good for a change against the sound of a strat? like more les paul rock style?

  • I wish that I could afford to buy that guitar one day. But then again I love a lot of guitars and all of them are used for different reasons and different songs. But that white Gibson Melody Maker got me hooked. I want one too. It's just too pretty for it to be ignored.

  • Well the thing is, this is Gibson is affordable compared to most gibson...!!

    In Swansea its £400!! ;)

  • Gone down to £349... Deffo getting one now. Just because the head say's Gibson on it!

  • im thinking to buy this guitar ... and u made real fine demo of it...

  • Rory Gallagher!

  • dig the lick at 0:30

  • C'est le seul mec en France qui a pas besoin d'acheter de meubles. Il mange et il pose ces bouteilles sur ces amplis. ;)

  • Belgique ;-)

  • @realdocloco D'ou qu'c'est?

  • 0:38 LOL

  • i love rory gallagher i go to the festival every year

  • This guitar's amazing for playing anything. Blues, country, punk and people use this a lot in indie music, or alternative rock. The Libertines I believe, Pete and the other dude, got one of these.

  • carl barât is "the other dude" ;-)

but you're right this guitar is fantastic.

  • i've playing on modifed joat jett singature with Seymour Duncan Jazz Humbucker and it sound really great on lead distorion and clean

  • dude! that thing sounds delicious, im torn between a white melody maker or a white junior...i see you've got both so what would you recommend?

  • Junior ftw

  • I had an emu rape Bob last night whist I burned his mother in her sleep =)

  • encore bien joué

ca sonne tres white stripes je trouve

  • gibson melody maker is 1 of the best guitars and what if its only like £300 its still a sexy guitar i have a gibson les paul custom that costed me £3,500 and its got a better play onit and if u dont like the pickups fuckin change them

  • lotaa people dont like instruments made for people on a tight budget apparently. Just like they talk shit about First Act. They dont respect people who make cheap instruments for people who cant afford a sg or some shit.

  • I have a few High end guitars, expensive too. But, I mainly play my Gibson Melody Maker. There is nothing on the Market with that much "Mojo" for the price. Thing is, it's easy to say a certain guitar is not worth 2,500.00 but you can't say the Melody Maker is not worth every panney of 300.00

  • yeah theyre so cool my friend offered one 2 me for £50 (about 80 bucks) and i turned it down not just because of the astetic qualities (as in its ugly as sin) but its the worst, the best guitar ever yeah right!

  • is best than epiphone?

  • i used to have that exact one

  • nice toneeeeeeeeeeeee

  • you've got some nice gear there mister.

  • i beleive that song is "a million miles away" by rory gallagher (irish blues guitarist) ,, great stuff ,,cool guitar i'm thinking about getting one.

  • Thanks for the song name, I'll check it out :)

I'm getting one I think, when I have the cash :)

  • yEAH !

I like the intro in particular and you can find the best version of this song on one of the most electrifying live album of Rock music: Rory Gallagher 's Irish Tour.

  • What is the name of this song it kicks ass & you are really good

  • Very nice!

I'm still doubting to get a Melody Maker or a Schecter Demon, big difference, I know, but can you play some metal with a melody maker?

And is this all improvisation? Because I like the part from 0.38 untill 0.50 ;) If someone could give the name of the song, if it is a song, I'd be thankful. =)

  • I doubt the Melody Maker would do metal very well.

    Get the Schecter.

  • Probably, but maybe with a Metal Muff pedal or something :)

  • It's nice to see you young guys using the cooler Guitars like the Melody Maker. Lesley West used it as his main guitar for most of his hits like Dreams Of Milk & Honey.I anted to get a Vintage Original but maybe getting a re-issue is a better idea.

  • I just added a Melody Maker to my collection.I picked one up new for 250.00. I had one 40 years ago, the Melody Maker still has a lot of "MoJo" you can't go wrong buying one.

  • Good to know :)

If you had one 40 years ago, you must be really old :o No offence ofcourse, old people carry a lot of wisdom =)

  • You're getting a great tone going through the Vox. What pedal are you using there?

  • No pedal at all (volume roll off for the clean tone, then max volume for the crunch/lead tones).

  • :38-:41 - Hillarious.

Rock on, good friend! How do those tuners hold tune, by the way?

  • Rather good I'd say - once you've replaced the stock strings.

  • thanks, man! I'm in the market for one.

  • great guitar for the price.. million miles away.. wasnt rory gallagher cool pal.. i play lp's but im going to get one of these i think as for the price they are great value...

  • Where did you find the money to get those Vox amps? There pretty expensive.

  • i have the same handwired amp and to buy it i just ate beans for 2 months XD

  • Nice guitar!

    Nice sound!

    Nice presentation!

    GOOD

  • I've been looking at these guitars recently, you really did a great job of showing off it's best qualities.

  • Awesome man

  • its not a shame. its just for poor people. lol jk. nice guitar. who cares show much it is! its a gibson! enough said. anyways whys ur strap so high? lol and ur playing it on the side of ur body.

  • Most of my straps are straplocks-mounted.I recorded this clip as soon as I bought the guitar, so no straplocks on it, so I had to use this old short strap. Mystery solved ;-)

  • would you put a seymour duncan paff splitable to make it more versatile and to have melody maker and "kind of sg". I don´t have money to have the fantastic collections of guitars that you have, and i want something versatil

  • very nice playin

  • Should i get one of these or a nick valensi riviera? for Punk/Indie

    thanks :)

  • considering that those two guitars have very little in common, i would say that the mm would be better suited for that style.

  • This Thing

  • You should get a Telecaster ...it's awesome

  • Don't worry I've had some and I still have an Esquire.

  • I wasn't worrying...

  • Well ... a shame since 1959 so.

  • tell that to leslie west lol

  • And Joan Jett!

  • pfft... this poser clearly knows nothing.

  • Sounds like a nice guitar, and love a million miles away. RIP rory. Think that this guitar is worth owning?

  • thanks for the video man im thinking about getting this guitar

  • Does anyonw can please tell me where this song/melody comes from?I relly loved it and i really want o learn how to play it!

  • The song is called A Million Miles Away, by Rory Gallagher.

  • In your opinion, would you rate the melody maker better than a Les Paul Junior? I'm deciding between these two

  • No. It's something else, with a different tone. I'm a Gibson junior's lover for years, and I have several ones, so I bought the Melody Maker precisely because it was different.

  • does it have a tuning Problem?

  • Nope, no tuning problem with mine.

  • i have that guitar.its very nice.right now,its getin a paint job

  • this guitar kicks ass, but i really dont like the head stock...u still reccomend it? please reply.

  • For sure I still recommend it! about the headstock, well it's unusual but works fine (the strings goes right to the tuners, nearly no angle).

  • thanks man

  • does anyone know if they handmake the meloody makers like there other guitars

  • yeah they do, handmade in the us of a

  • nice amps!

  • Which song do you play? realdocloco?

  • It's freely based on Rory Gallagher's "Million miles away" - great song you can find on one of the best live ever "Irish tour '74".

  • These are made in the USA right? Is that a dogear or plain strat style single coil?I think after I sell some more guitars,Im getting an Epi G-1275 and one of these, normally I hate gibsons, but this one, being so cheap, and looked upon mostly as a student guitar, isnt as upscale as a les paul as far as everyone thinks its the best guitar in the world.

  • The pickup looks like a strat one, but sounds way beefier.

  • any idea what 2 pickup reissues cost?

  • it costs about 399.99 at guitar center

  • cool, thats a great price for a USA Gibson,I think theyre having a sale on musicians friend for $300 each, but Im broke,or Id have one...

  • wow, that sounds great, and being a 350 dollar guitar

i thought it would be bad, but it sounds great

    =)

hey, can you send me the tabs of what you were playing? or is it a song?

  • One word, AWESOME:D

  • Great sound and great amps ! Rory G. would be proud !

The melody maker sounds also very well... I think I'm gonna buy one !

  • Alright Im looking at two guitars this one and a Epiphone Les Paul standard plain top witch one should I get

  • to have the tab for the rock bit coz it sounds fucken awesome

  • it it good the tunning on this guitar?il iked it!

  • Hey I bought a dual-pickup MM a few months ago; your video helped confirm my decision, so thanks! But I was wondering if you ever have trouble with the bridge...since its slanted and there are no notches to hold the strings in place I find that the distance between some strings is greater...it kinda messes me up when I move up and down on them...any ideas?

  • With the time the bridge will "auto-slant" itself - but you better have the strings in the right position first, that's something you have to watch for when you're putting new strings on.

  • Alright thanks for the tip.

  • Your vids are great. We got this exact melody maker and also one of the last one that were dicontinued. They are light and awesome. Just fun to play on.

  • That sounds sooooo much like a true gibson

  • No offence, but u really should play on your marshall. Gibson and Marshall combo is one of the best you can get.

  • Don't worry, he's not only there as a piece of furniture.

  • That is subject to opinion. Everyone has their own taste. Gibson and Marshall DOES sound good, but only for certain types of music. A Fender setup is good too. Clapton used that. Epiphone and Vox is a good combo too. There is no "best combination."

  • That's why I said 'one of the best' A vox isn't bad ofcourse, not at all, but in my opinion Marshall and Gibson together is better than gibson and vox. I also ment that gibson and marshall are very good, while I prefer an orange for a fender guitar. It's just a way of thinking and playing.

  • i personally like vox much better than marshall.

  • wholey shit nice vox!

u got some seriouce equipment there. looks like a zoom pedal and a couple others.

did you know that marshall makes a 600 dllar pakage that comes with a cab. and amp head? Tried it out at a store, great for that british rock tone.

  • Sure - be my teacher :-)

  • i like melody makers but they dont really look appealing to play

  • the marshall at the back is great

  • clean your room

  • lol, and your username is "Neatfreak".

  • Who gives?

  • fuck yoo neatprick

  • Why did you reply to me?

  • hahaha, i just got a picture of what you look like. talk about ultra repulsive nerd!

  • Damn...even Gibson's cheap shit is bad ass.

  • Well a crappy guitar through a very nice amp, will sound much better then a great guitar through a crappy amp. Just a rule of thumb when dealing with electric guitars.

  • The paint is cheap indeed - but at least no thick poly. The wood seems perfectly ok to me, and the guitar sound great acoustically. The wraparound bridge is as good as any other wraparound bridge - it's because it is simple (no moving parts) that there's good vibe transmission to the body (btw intonation is spot on). Neck is strong and very comfortable. You seems to be worried about the light weight, me I would be worry if it was TOO heavy. Maybe should you look for a anchor-like '78 strat?

  • You tube don't give a lot of space I was wanting to go on to say the ones in vids here look diffrent to the one I had ,more like a LP jr' are they maybe vintage ones? I think that Gibson maybe re-issued them for a year in the mid 00's and that was the one I had, but it really was a sad guitar, I know what you mean about weight but this was light. I think it cost 199 or 299 pounds which for any US mad guitar is a steal but not good value @ all sorry.

  • I see what you're talking about, it's indeed the previous "Melody Maker" model, made in the early 00's. Those were looking more like a LP jr than a Melody Maker, never liked them too (but I love real LP jr!).

  • What.. The.. Fuck..

  • lol

  • Very Nice. Good player and awesome tone !!!

  • what do you think about this guitar, are you satisfied with the sound?? I'm a little skeptic 'cause of the price. These days guitars are overpriced, so it puzzles me to see a gibson at such a low price (hope the constructive quality it's still there). Thank you!

  • one of my favorite tunes off Irish Tour...hmmm bet sound good on a strat.

  • What song is this?

  • Rory Gallagher's "Million miles away"

  • Nice Playing, My Melody Maker Is on the UPS Truck Now! I got the duel pickup version for $349.99. could not bet the price.. New not used.

The older 2004 version MM used P-90's but Gibson has put something new in this years model, still trying to find the part # for it.

    Have fun.

  • Awesome song! I'm thinking about buying the melody maker...any suggestions on upgrades after I get it?

  • I'd leave it stock - that's what I do with mine.

  • what is the name of that song?

  • sounds and looks very very good! I think you're playing a Rory Gallagher song ain't you?

  • Indeed ;-)

  • nice sounding. i think the hum gives the guitar personality. seperates the single coil from a humbucker

  • heyhow much was that guitar?? and do u reccomend buying it?

  • Is this big or a baby guitar

  • Usual Gibson scale - 24.75

  • dude this guitar rocks i have one but u should get maybe a p-90 or a humbucker for it so it dosent hum as much

  • sweetness...gettin the one with two pickups soon...if it is better than the one u have it will satisfy me...if it is as good as the one u have it will saisfy me=] good job bro

  • Nice. I'm getting the dual pickup version soon, hoping it'll be worth it.

  • does the re-issue sound the same as the original?

and is the re-issue light weight?

  • The reissue is lightweight (and very resonant). Does it sound the same than the original? I would say better! The original pickup was very weak and the new one keep the same tone, but with more balls.

  • sweet! im gonna buy one now, i want the carl barat sound from the libertines. thanks!

    is that a dogear pickup?

  • No, it's a Fender-alike single-coil, but more powerfull. It has way more treble than a P90.

  • cool thanks!

(have you heard anything on the elecroharmonix frequency analyzer? i might buy one)

  • Sympas tout ça j'ai la même mais en double micro et moi je dis pour le prix c'est quasi donné avec un son de tueur j'ai alluciné...et puis le poids, on dirait une guiatre en carton ^^ bon allez ciao

  • nice rory gallagher cover man!

    its was perfect. 5*

  • That was GREAT! Rory would be proud! I have his signature strat, but I will now be getting one of those Melody Makers as well.

By the way, if you check Rorys videos here, you will catch him playing one too.

  • Sounds great! What do you play? Improvisation?

  • I'd like to but it's my rendition of Rory Gallagher's "Million miles away".
