Each rotor had a displacement of 654 cc, for a total of 1308 cc displacement in the engine. So if this rx7 is a 13b then it is a 1.3L.......i think this thing is wrong
@05orangeblast jesus lighten up mate! I know all about eh Wankel engine - NSU Ro80, ( yes rotor tips burnt out and then perfected by Mazda with the RX7...
@TheDiddlysquat I read your are a Porsche enthusiast! god are the anoraks still stuck on "its a vw van engine" for goodness sake get it sorted!! I had many 4 cyl transaxles in the 80s - brilliant cars- way ahead of the (no competition) back then.
@TheDiddlysquat its one of those things you just kinda have to dive into. I went from driving a 70 chevy monte carlo and making fun of anything that didn't have 5L or more to respecting cars not made by the big three to buying a rx7 in a week =)
@TheDiddlysquat Im a big enough man to say your right. Still though the rx7 T2 was one of the best cars of the mid 80s but so was the 944. I would say 924s = rx7 fc and 944 = rx7 t2 but thats just me
@TheDiddlysquat the 924 had an engine from a VW van and AMC Gremlin that was a 2.0L and the 944 had a porsche designed 2.5L. The 924 had a VW designed 2.0L
@TheDiddlysquat dude the 924 was a bucket. You couldn't do much with it. The rotary was great if you weren't a moron and cared after it. The rx7 is 10x better then this vw labeled a porsche. Now if we were talking about the 944 then they would be even
I have a guy selling a 1985 Mazda RX7 in my area, with a rebuilt 1987 Engine inside of it, pushing 225hp or something like that. Might go test it out today but I hope it sounds nice and not like a damn weed wacker like i heard in this other video
JAP CRAP ! All those old RX 7s are scarpped now..possibly bake mean cans now....Porsche is the best quality from the 80s ! I know I have a collection of 5 ! and they are all better built and more reliable than a 5yr old Audi which I used to own...(depite now being 20+ yrs old) old-world build quality !! ..built to last- not be be recycled. (hey listen to the cruchey 3rd gear in the Mazda) ...(heap when new)
The 924 is much more comfortable to drive, has a nicer interior. The motor revs very smoothly, and the handling seems much more precise on the Porsche. However, the balance shafts and complex timing assy make the motors almost impossible to maintain without very deep pockets. Hence, I don't drive one anymore. The Mazda is alot cheaper inside and outside, but rotary's are pretty awesome...
@ghettogothcowboy from much experience, nothing revs smoother than a rotary engine. the rotors never stop, unlike a piston. it's an incredible feeling.
I have a 944s which has the complex motor assembly and is easy to maintain. If you can change a timing belt you can maintain it VERY cheaply. Balence shaft belt was like $50.
i think the clicher here is the mpg... 25mpg that is very thirsty i bet you would be lucky to get 20mpg if driving the mazda hard. i had a 944 a few years back and you could get 30mpg out of it, so pretty good for a 2.5 petrol, now have a mondeo st24 2.5 and the performance is about the same as the porsche 944.. when you drive 300miles a week in the uk mpg is the most important factor
boyamiboard is indeed an idiot, but he's right. The 2353cc rating is from an alternate measuring method designed to make rotaries sound like they have more displacement than they actually do.
The traditional (and much more widely accepted) method rates the engine at 1308cc.
RONDOC68 is a dick head. i own a 1988 Mazda rx-7 turbo2 and its the greatest car ive ever drivin, awesome grip, power, handling, acceleration and a stunning car to look at. nothing else compares to a rotor engine.
the porsche is faster tops out at 160mph, its an S model so it is just like a 944. they give more credit to the RX7 on here and I don't know why, i'd buy the 924S over an RX7 anyday. BTW phone dial rims are not ugly at all.
thats true, but there is a huge difference between the average 1st gen and the GSL-SE, GSL-SE's have differnt lug patterns, drivetrain, and a completely differnt interior. not to mention GSL-SE's are very rare and hard to find these days b/c they were only in production for 2 years (84-85)
thats a bunch of shit, the 2nd gens had better fuel mileage than the 1st gens b/c they were fuel injected, the old 1st gens had factory 4 barrel carbs.
The Mazda is sexier? Um...looking back from 2011 it is obvious the Porsche has aged much more gracefully than the Mazda.

@sunonthewindow
Yea lol, that Mazda is SO ugly! The 944 is even more beautiful. Porsches probably aged most gracefully out of all cars from the 70s and 80s.
