I don´t know why you always tell about an "attack of the century"? In Germany we only talk about SHAME to the Russians when we mention the Gustloff! There were 99 % women and children on board! So shut the fuck up talking about it as if it had been a heroic deed!

Soviet sailor and, during World War II, the captain of the S-13 submarine, which sank the German ship Wilhelm Gustloff, with recent research showing that close to 10,000 died when the ship sank.
Well The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp and A Matter Of Life And Death are older films (1940s) but IMHO they really capture the spirit of the British people during WWll far more than alot of later films.
More sequences of the Uboat plowing through the Northern Atlantic would have been fine. To me, that is the major optical effect of the film - a non-CGI-bullshit realistic looking impression of a small German Uboat alone, almost lost, on the ocean. This is so crazy. Imagine staying several weeks in such a little tube made of steel yawing three weeks in a terrible storm! It is absolutely brilliant to see the U 96 like this. But the techno version of the theme sounds bad and old-fashioned. :-/
damned good movie this, worth your 5 hours of watching (providing you have 6 cans of beer with you...) like the music. So when is the 5 hour german version available (with english subtitles of course - I'm deaf and need it!) love to see it again whilst wifey is shopping for shoes etc. (poor me as i am married)
I don't think that the Japanese and the Germans are very much different as people. What happened in the 20th century was a result of very bad leaders.
Wonderful video, well done! I always wanted to make my own video of the 5:15-version of U96, but I never had the programs (and such) to do it. Your version is very cool; the scenes of the movie fits very well with the music.
Possible to make a clip containing the Klaus Doldinger-theme?

There's quiet a few great American war films 'Apocalypse Now' 'Paths Of Glory'
'Platoon' 'Go Tell The Spartans'
'All Quiet On The Western Front'
and a few others,
Best German films would likely be Das Boot and Downfall,
My pick for the best U.K. war films would have to be 'The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp' and 'A Matter Of Life And Death'.
cha5 2 years ago
Will give them a watch!
Just remembered Operation Daybreak is quite good!

"..But the techno version of the theme sounds bad and old-fashioned. :-/ )
You're absolutely right, the techno remix of das boot was released in 1991! As I remember, it was the first techno song to be played on german mtv
bere5de 3 years ago
The Original version would be far better. The remix distorted the beauty of the song
DX1811 3 years ago
I think that this remix of U96 has it's own cult status and brings new value to the theme.

I like the movie but the "techno remix" frome the theme song is trash...

Actually Germany has a long history of pretty good and original movies.
The only genre I cannot stand is the latest with hollywood-like police chasings and shootings.
Cheers from Italy

'Das Boot' is very nice movie!
I saw this move more than 30 times.
Nazi is bad but Germans are good and kind like angels.
I have the hatred against damned Japs.
But I love Europeans including Germans.

Hello.
I have huge hatred against Japs because the Japs have been distorting the Korean history, territory and culture, etc.
For example, KIMCHI, DOKDO, etc.
