I live in the NW UK (Warriington) and started on CB and have been a G7 for about 18 years. I've done more data i.e Packet radio than chatted to people, I think i've chatted to more Hams on CB than i have done on the Ham Bands! lol, Do you still go on the SSB CB freq's? or use the FM portion of the band?
See, THAT is a proper radio, with a proper S-meter. One thing I never can get used to is bloody digital s-meters. I don't think I'm a luddite. I just hate them.
Hiya mate,I just passed my m3 but I'll always love going on 11 meters.I keep gettin told for letting c.b. slang slip out. I wouldn't mind but 2meters is almost like cb anyway. thers stupid young kids making daft noises at each other and all sorts, even mic keyers. ludicrous. I'm most disapointed.the repeaters sound like ch 19.
I wouldn't mind being an M3 myself but I would still go back to 11m. I get fed up with those that came from the background of 11m and deny their roots and claim they are purer than the driven snow. Those people p-ss me off.
I would only go on the SSB portion of 2m if the skip was in personally. I wouldn't go on the repeaters.
I think I'll just save up for an hf set and stay down there where the proper radio is. I want to pass my 2eo next but even then I still don't think I'll spend much time on 2 meters,I'll wait and see how I feel. great chatting with you mate. my best 73's to you.
That is probably the best plan, stick to the HF side where the real radio is as you have mentioned.
Ham radio operators don't care less if you are a M3, 2E, or M0 licence holder. As long as you have a licence they don't appear to care, unlike the hair shirt G3 and G4/G0 operators...
I'd avoid 80m too, it seems to be the "Old fossil rag chew" band from what I have heard. They'll hate you over there, lol!
like I have said, the bit that really irks me is when I get scolded like a ginger step child for somethin as simple as letting a little bit of cb 'lingo' slip out.I was never one for cussing, even on the 27/81band so I'm not saying anything eally bad, just that 'my personal is jay' etc etc alla bit anal if ask me.I may pass my m0 just out of spite. lol

Yep,
"Surfing the Triple" most certainly is. Which is why a lot of hams go back there, or never leave at all. ;-)
