this is almost useless for real defense.. i mean the things where you use the clothing, i've never seen someone come into a fight and say "hey let's put on some different clothes first!"..
@MyNameWasntAvailabl3 there are still many throws and grappling techniques that can transition to no-gi/plain clothes situations, just not as many as if you were in a gi or heavy coat or something. but if they have a gun or knife, then yeah you're screwed =P
@B7ElectroHouseLover Congratulations, or you are lying, or your judo professor sucks. You have to be 18 or more to get the black belt, and people who are under 18, the sequece is: Mukiu (white belt), Nanakiu (grey belt), Rokukiu (blue belt) and then the normal sequence.
I'm a scout. Once during winter camp, wen we were sleeping in a scholl we joined couple of matterses and wressled for four days with breaks for sleaping and meals.
@Gangsta28RLZ depends how you look at it, when the hakama was still worn it was normal to wear a hakama and homosexualty was often conceived from others so
@bade92 not actually when youre a begginer you will surely suck out of the dojo but hen you now a lot you can fuck up anyone out there, a judo technique well performed in street can kill your opponent or at least `put him out of combat at once
The only time i hated judo was when i lost my first competition because i really just hate to lose and i got kneed in the face on my first round and he got me in a lock so i was screwed and then the second round i injured my ankle which was so painful!
@standifd actually its the other way around schools in america suck so bad that ive seen people get black belts in 2 yrs & when they would compete with other schools that were decent yellow belts would beat the shit outta their brown belts i was at a good school it took me 1 year to get my yellow belt & another 7 to get my black... rank in our school wasnt given it was earned
@papitodo I dont think they are all black belts. Normally, hakamas(the black under part of their attire) is worn by black belts but there is no way they would consider Jason and Bill black belts if they have no legitimate Judo experience. I think they are wearing them for other reasons. I have no experience in Judo, I'm talking from the perspective of training in other martial arts.
I do muay thai and i agree that every martial art is for only one thing. i mean that if a thai boxer for example fighs with a judo fighter , when they are close judo wins but from distance muay thai....e.t.c.
tkd for kick? Muay Thay for close commbat? stop making fun of yourself! Muay Thay is for kicks because they have most power in kicks. TKD is kicking backround (in those cases mt will not help you, when you need speed, not power and for close fighting you use boxing not muay thay. Muay Thay allways get owned by boxers in close in fighting! For takedowns you use judo! Glue is Jeet Kune Do! Just my version )
You can use any style you know, all Asian martial arts have kicks... If you are good at MuayThai you can use MuayThai kicks, if you are good at Taekwondo use it... And I have never seen a boxer beat a MuayThai fighter... Especially close combat in the clinch... Boxing has no knees or elbows or throws... How would it win in the clinch? LOL
I have done Taekwondo (Mostly for fun lol) Karate is my main style, and I am currently in kickboxing. You must be crazy to think that a style like MuayThai (Which has boxing already in it...) And add on with kicks, knees, elbows, and takedowns could be beat by just boxing... It is possible, but just comparing the styles, the "science of 8 limbs" is probably gonna beat the science of 2... especially since MT already is boxing...
@Jitkyundou the only way i could think of a boxer beating a muay thai fighter is that the boxer knocks out the muay thai fighter with the first hit, that would make me think that the mauy thai fighter is unexperienced, as they are trained to withstand hits (as with every other martial art)
the muay thay fighter is just as strong as a boxer, if not it's just a little bit weaker, but not enough to make a difference, but much faster and agile, which would give him an enormous advantage
@GuamKomudo Good for what, exactly? It's a big stretch to say "well, if it's Asian, it's automatically a good martial art."
If you're looking for, say, self defence, you'd probably do a lot better to learn Western style boxing or Sambo from a good instructor than to learn aikido.
Sambo is based on Japanese Judo, it has nothing to do with Western anything... They even copied Judo Uniforms which are actually Japanese funeral dress worn under Samurai armor to show they were ready to die in battle... It's a rip off of Judo mixed with a TINY bit of Russian folk wrestling. I didn't say Asian is better because it's Asians... We just use more of our weapons on our body.
@GuamKomudo Fair enough on the sambo, but I could substitute wrestling and still make my point, I think.
Good instructor + useful skills is the key combo you want, and you can get that without necessarily looking to Asia (although there are plenty of legit Asian martial arts that will fulfill these criteria).
I think wrestling is good for takedowns and things, but as a combat system Jujitsu is better, it has become a key component of MMA and is seen by many as one of the most effective fighting systems in the world. But it really depends on who, individually, is fighting who.
Because you know how to land, not to mention on the street, if you throw someone on the street or sidewalk, they could die, they can creak their head open or get paralisis or at the least break something... Its never fun to simply fall on the street, let alone be slammed onto it lol
Ninjas weren't unstoppable warriors. They were spies. Very rarely they were warriors, and even when they were, they were no match for the Samurai. Get your shit straight, dumbass.
That training must be realy affective mentaly. I think that the mentalety you have towards a martial art, is just as inportand as enything else. Sorry, but nowdays TKD isent really that effective outside TKD... Unless your fighting a TKD guy your probly gonna loose. TKD has some cool kicks, but thats about it. Unless you KO a judo guy in one hit hes gonna grab you, then your done cause TKD has nothing but kicks, no grappling, barly any hand techniques, just kicks. I was in TKD for 3 years, I changed to Kempo and know what killed me everytime in sparring? simple punch to face. I could do cool jump kicks, but couldent fight for crap...
But it all depends on your style of fighting. Also, outside TKD, its not like you not going to punch someone in the face too, u cant just use TKD by itself. But I see what u mean, and how three people think my comment is bad. But oh well, I'll believe what i want to.
I think you need to try something before it "not for you" Like I said, I thought TKD was pretty good until I fought someone that actually knew something about fighting in a new school... I was a blackbelt in TKD and brand new guys to martial arts were winning because all they had to do is punch, just watch a TKD tournament and then watch any other martial art. TKD is the ONLY martial art (Nowdays its a game) That you dont put your hands up, who thought that was a good idea??? Nice kicks though
Its your choice though, if you want to put ur hands up or not. So instead of bad mouthing the whole sport (not a game), bad mouth the person that is fighting as in life there are people that can fight and people that cant. Plus I have tried judo, otherwise I wouldnt say it wasnt for me. Im not THAT stupid you know. But I like the grapples in Judo.
TKD can't be that ineffective when it's used by the Korean millitary. What you have to get out of your mind is the over-commercialization of TKD. Although I still believe grapple arts are still more effective if you find a way to get past the initial attacks because if you arn't trained in grapple or throwing arts then you'll be messed up.
many ITF tkd guys go on to do very well in kickboxing comps. ITF is the original tkd made by general choi. we punch alot. the sport you are refering to is WTF tkd which is shit. but for some reason the americans and south koreans love it. search fot ITF tkd and you will see exactly what tkd should be like.
"itf tkd guys do very well in kickboxing"? LOL you must be talking about semi-contact or light-contact kickboxing. With full-contact or international / low kick rules kickboxing, or muay thai, the tkd guy will be owned in the first round.
Search it here on youtube. Show us ONE proof of video when a itf tkd guy wins a kickboxer or a thai boxer. You won't find any.
you can find many videos of TKD fighters beating kick boxers or muay thai guys. search ITFukraine's page you find many. search for stephen Tapilatu, zelg galsic, serkan yilmaz. or actually try fighting a ITF TKD guy then you will see for yourself. your obviously one of these internet warriors who doesnt do martial arts and only knows what he see's on you tube or you would realise that TKD fighters are good fighters.
"internet warriors" WTF?? Anyway, I do practice martial arts, I don't need to prove you anything. I know what I'm talking about. Those tkd guys you mentioned cannot be counted as regular tkd guys since they are OBVIOUSLY doing cross training with boxing and other fighting styles. If they say they are tkd guys is just to give TKD more propaganda.
Fool yourself all you want. A muay thai or a kickboxing guy will ALLWAYS have more chances to win than a tkd guy (of the same time experience).
their main base is TKD. you asked for TKD fighters so i gave you them. stephen tapilatu is a pure TKD fighter, so is yilmaz. search for warren vice hes a ITF style fighter and he batters kickboxers all the time in full contact fights. kick boxing is just full contact karate/ TKD. if a karate or TKD fighter trains fullcontact with leg kicks they can stand toe to toe with any fighter from any other mrtial art. its the fighter not the art. one of the best kick boxers in the UK at the moment.....
... comes from a lau gar kung fu back ground. many kick boxers come from a karate or ITF TKD back ground as the sparring is the same. and before you say it, yes they can punch to the head in ITF TKD.
tyebo87 I couldn't agree more with you, Taekwondo is given a bad name because most people see it as an only competition sport which is not true, at my dojang we utilize hand strikes ALOT in self defense and kicking really more of the technical aspect for tournament like damn WTF
I agree with you Kirillov. However when you say there are 2 types of Taekwondo, I am not really sure what you mean, as far as I know there is only Traditional TKD which incorporates more self defense material and Competition TKD which is more of a sport which emphasizes point sparring and tournaments as far as I know. Your insight would be appreciated though
true Ceosan, kicks above the belt should only be used if the opponent is stunned or something. You also need to hone your technique to the point where your kicks speed and retraction are fast so your leg doesn't get grabbed or something =O
I kicked a kid in the stomach in a real fight and he was done. I won so i don't think you're an idiot to kick in a real fight. It all depends on when you throw the kick
well in tkd u learn to train your legs until u kick faster then people can punch so if you can kick faster then a punch then kicking above the belt isnt a problem
i cant begin to tell you how wrong that is. speed is not the issue. watch a muay thai fighter vs a TKD fighter and you'll see wat i mean. besides, you will never see a head height kick in a real fight, so is kicking that high really fighting? tkd looks more like dancing (feels like it too)
to intentionally expose yourself and throw your balance for a one off strike is not gonna get you far, in fact it will end with you on the ground, probably bleeding.
Not legit TKD, I trained sport TKD and its BS, but they are on to something. The legs are about 3X stronger then your arms, kicking is probably the most powerful attack the human body can produce. Find a legit TKD school (Probably gonna have to join the Korean army) But original TKD was good, but it became popular in the US and was taken over by loser instructors, money, and egos...
Taekwondo was probably the first hybrid style of martial arts. It was the first to mix styles into one. They took Karate, Taekkyun and other Korean arts. The problem is they took Karate, and basically they left out all of Karates hand techniques, and put in fancy kicks from Taekkyun, which is why they always fall on their butts. Most Karate matches end with a streight punch to the face, kicks never use to be above the waist, mostly disabling kicks to knees. They left all that out of TKD...
@GuamKomudo i practice wtf and the reason for so many people to fall is not their bad equilibrium(tkd practitioners have a lot of static active flexibility),but to avoid getting a kick to the head by the opponent(which scores 3 points,a down is just 1).my trainer focuses more on street fight and we use about any kind of punching.and by the way a kick which directly hits almost means defeating your opponent
It should also be noted that while your legs are stronger than your arms, kicking isn't stronger than punching. This is because punches are powered by the legs and arms, not just the legs as with kicking.
You also kick with your whole body as well, kicking creates a much stronger force then punching. Kicking is stronger, but I understand what your saying. You can send a punching bag flying with a sidekick, iv never seen anyone do that by punching.

Fool yourself all you want. A muay thai or a kickboxing guy will ALLWAYS have more chances to win than a tkd guy (of the same time experience).

their main base is TKD. you asked for TKD fighters so i gave you them. stephen tapilatu is a pure TKD fighter, so is yilmaz. search for warren vice hes a ITF style fighter and he batters kickboxers all the time in full contact fights. kick boxing is just full contact karate/ TKD. if a karate or TKD fighter trains fullcontact with leg kicks they can stand toe to toe with any fighter from any other mrtial art. its the fighter not the art. one of the best kick boxers in the UK at the moment.....
tyebo87 2 years ago
... comes from a lau gar kung fu back ground. many kick boxers come from a karate or ITF TKD back ground as the sparring is the same. and before you say it, yes they can punch to the head in ITF TKD.
tyebo87 2 years ago
traditional tkd ITF tkd contains loads of hand techniques. its shitty WTF olympic tkd that is all kicks.
tyebo87 3 years ago
tyebo87 I couldn't agree more with you, Taekwondo is given a bad name because most people see it as an only competition sport which is not true, at my dojang we utilize hand strikes ALOT in self defense and kicking really more of the technical aspect for tournament like damn WTF
Goji77 2 years ago 2
there are 2 different types of tkd buddy...all depends on the type of practitioner... dont blame the technique blame the user
Kirillov 2 years ago 2
I agree with you Kirillov. However when you say there are 2 types of Taekwondo, I am not really sure what you mean, as far as I know there is only Traditional TKD which incorporates more self defense material and Competition TKD which is more of a sport which emphasizes point sparring and tournaments as far as I know. Your insight would be appreciated though

I was talking about ITF and WTF but the different types of tae know do are Mu Doo Kwan
Han Mu Kwan
Chung Do Kwan
Kang Duk Kwan
and many others

wow I didn't know that thanks for the info Kirillov :D

only an idiot would kick above the belt in a real fight...
Ceosan 2 years ago
true Ceosan, kicks above the belt should only be used if the opponent is stunned or something. You also need to hone your technique to the point where your kicks speed and retraction are fast so your leg doesn't get grabbed or something =O
Goji77 2 years ago
I kicked a kid in the stomach in a real fight and he was done. I won so i don't think you're an idiot to kick in a real fight. It all depends on when you throw the kick
kennynspennyrthebest 2 years ago
finally someone brings up the most important thing
well second after footwork
TIMING
kicking anywhere is fine
when is more important, that and most people who say u cant kick high ina fight usually cant kick that high
lagook 2 years ago 2
unless you're really good at them, as in you know when to throw them
SousukePanic 2 years ago
why is that?
Rohan4basu 2 years ago
well, it depends if your talking about an average teen in highschool or a teen whos training mma
dohboiii 2 years ago
well in tkd u learn to train your legs until u kick faster then people can punch so if you can kick faster then a punch then kicking above the belt isnt a problem
DanielTrongDao 2 years ago
i cant begin to tell you how wrong that is. speed is not the issue. watch a muay thai fighter vs a TKD fighter and you'll see wat i mean. besides, you will never see a head height kick in a real fight, so is kicking that high really fighting? tkd looks more like dancing (feels like it too)
to intentionally expose yourself and throw your balance for a one off strike is not gonna get you far, in fact it will end with you on the ground, probably bleeding.

Good post.. but people still wanna believe in what they see in the movies.. lol

GuamKomudo 2 years ago 5
Kicking is incredibly inefficient and TKD was never "good" compared to the most efficient forms of fighting like judo, wrestling and american boxing
SolidSnakeRules 2 years ago
Taekwondo was probably the first hybrid style of martial arts. It was the first to mix styles into one. They took Karate, Taekkyun and other Korean arts. The problem is they took Karate, and basically they left out all of Karates hand techniques, and put in fancy kicks from Taekkyun, which is why they always fall on their butts. Most Karate matches end with a streight punch to the face, kicks never use to be above the waist, mostly disabling kicks to knees. They left all that out of TKD...

@GuamKomudo i practice wtf and the reason for so many people to fall is not their bad equilibrium(tkd practitioners have a lot of static active flexibility),but to avoid getting a kick to the head by the opponent(which scores 3 points,a down is just 1).my trainer focuses more on street fight and we use about any kind of punching.and by the way a kick which directly hits almost means defeating your opponent
itachirinnengan 1 year ago
@GuamKomudo a kick to the head from a savate, tkd or capoeira practitioner is surely a ko
itachirinnengan 1 year ago
It should also be noted that while your legs are stronger than your arms, kicking isn't stronger than punching. This is because punches are powered by the legs and arms, not just the legs as with kicking.
SolidSnakeRules 2 years ago
You also kick with your whole body as well, kicking creates a much stronger force then punching. Kicking is stronger, but I understand what your saying. You can send a punching bag flying with a sidekick, iv never seen anyone do that by punching.

I do
alaricofarabia 2 years ago 2
try ITF tkd its mostly hand techniques and there is grappling that is borrowed from hapkido. its a modern version of shotokan karate.
tyebo87 3 years ago
Must not have been very good at TKD then haha... it's the fighter not the art
kartoonstew 2 years ago 4
That is true, but it helps to not attend a BS TKD school run by a looser that just wants money...
