Basically it's all about how he doesn't like the way his "rival" in the song does things, and all he wants is to have friends and be apart of a group. He starts getting listeners and crowds of people to follow him. He doesn't want to open his own eyes and see what he has become, he takes over and leaves his "rival" with nothing.

i don't think the song has a plot, it's just about the"scene" blaming corporations for causing people to sell out when in fact it's them who determine what is popular and what is not. it;s basically about being disillusioned with notions of popularity and just wanting to do your own thing.
