  • bullet camera <3 <3

  • yeah true but anyway all of them are created by.....Bohemia Interactive. By the way crawler75 I agree. The community is wayyyy to huge.

Heck gotta love 50 player co-op servers in ArmA II. But yeah VBS and VBS2 is extremely kick#%&. So VBS, ArmA and the old OFPs all day. Codemasters with OFP DR.....just no. And yes this is ArmA but much a lot more military style with combat realism and stuff for combat training exercises. The old OFPs, ArmA and VBS is completely underrated. But the 1 of the best.

  • ArmA 2 claims to be the "ultimate military simulator" (on the box) but it doesn't have all the functionality of Virtual Battlespace 2. They still are similar in many regards, but ArmA 2 certainly doesn't outdo this simulator.

  • Both made by the same developer BIStudios.

Name what is not inARMA2 because all the physics and environmental variables are the same. Of course only that VBS is a commercial product and has mil specific stuff like AAR which you don't need in a game and some more toys maybe. But the mod community is very strong for Arma2 and in time there will be lots of stuff which are not in VBS2.

  • dude have you notice about the didference of price...?? be serious of course they are different

  • I take it that this being a military simulation as opposed to a video game its one shot kill?

How many options are there, eg car bombs etc

  • Well ARMA 2 dosent have all that VBS 2 had :( (*cougharma3coughawsomenesscough*)

  • hehe is anyone ever online in this simulator?

  • The Reason It didn't get the best review is because it's not a civilian game. It is for training in the military. The commanders make missions according to the units specific needs. It also costs around $500.

  • So you have VBS2 and ArmA and you helped make A.C.E. man that is selfless. If I had VBS2 I wouldn't touch ArmA let alone help develop a massive mod for it.

  • SIM HQ reviews this ... wasn't a real bad rating...but for cost (apparently doesn't come with missions out of box) it may not be that desirable. ARMA II or OP flash 2 might be more for even the hardest core military sim dudes.

  • everyone should also realize that almost no civilian comps could handle this

  • I don't see why not. I run ArmA on high settings on my PC. It's essentially the same game, and engine. Sure it's a bit more complex but that won't effect performance much.

  • the fact that it is a "bit" more complex definitely affects performance. It has to make quite a bit more calculations and because its used by our military i would imagtine that its significantly more accurate than Arma. If it was only slightly more complex i dont think it would cost a couple thousand dollars

  • Check the website for recommended specs. To say that VBS2 wouldn't run on any "civilian" computers is absurd. Any high spec PC could run this.

  • ArmA was tested by military too, My brother in the Marines has a friend who played arma before it was out.

  • yea i know wish i had it, I have arma but this looks so cool

  • I think ARMA 2 will be beter

  • this is the military version of ARMA. Which has all the content of arma, and tons extra.

  • dude VBS2 helping me train in infantry.

  • Does the ai have pathfinding problems in this like in arma?

  • the real question is OFP2 or ARMA 2?

  • Thats not even a completed question

  • lol ok ok

the real question is will OFP2 or ARMA 2 be the best combat sim next year?

  • Sure this isnt arma?

  • Yes, I'm quite sure.

  • well, its kid of a mod to arma. its called VBS 2

  • No, ArmA was a mod of this.

  • nah, arma has a lot less qualities, if it was a mod, they wouldn't just remove em and make a bad US soldier textures.

  • You are silly. VBS was around way before ArmA, the developers of ArmA even state that ArmA is an offshoot of their VBS series.

Take the Half-Life series, for instance. Counter-Strike Source had less features than Half-Life, but was still a modification to the game Half-Life. All it really requires to be a mod is to be made by the same guys and use the same engine.

  • so, VBS was made, then ArmA, then VBS 2? cause i dunno the release dates of these games, VBS2 just looks so much better than ArmA

  • Yeah, surprisingly, it also costs about $1000 U.S.

There is a ton more in this that like I said, would be harder for civilian computers to handle, because most civilians don't invest $4000 in their computers (each).

  • no ragdolls in a realistic game like this?

    weird

    but anyways looks nice

  • Also, offtopic but forgive me, I just ordered a copy of your ArmA Tactical Guide. I heard it's quite good and I hope it'll expand my knowledge of ArmA/real military situations, which I'm sure it will. Hope I receive it soon, looking forward to it.

  • Hope you enjoy it. If you have feedback, you can reach me on G-mail, my nick (dslyecxi) at gmail.

  • Definitely will do, thank you.

  • Since you own both VBS2 and ArmA, how are the engine improvements compared to ArmA? I heard they're well done and much better compared to Armed Assault. Especially on PCs that run ArmA not without ease.

  • VBS2 is a constant development, so it has some neat features compared to ArmA, which was developed and released, then patched. It's a totally different type of development. VBS2 looks nice now, but when ArmA2 is out, things will appear different. VBS2 does not run any better than ArmA, though, from what I've experienced.

  • First off, I hope we can keep it civilized as I'm not looking for an argument or trying to convert you to think or do anything.

You own both of them so I won't argue with your opinion, I'm basing mine on things I've heard from other people.

You are basing your arguments on your opinion and the facts that you've experienced first-hand.

It's a well-given fact that opinions differ, as do tastes.

Until there's a proper mod for RTE, I'll keep drooling on the features of VBS2.

  • Where can i get a copy of vbs2?

  • Why would you want it? Buy ArmA for $30 from STeam instead, it's the same thing, has a great mod community, and costs a tiny fraction of the price.

  • @Dslyecxi VBS2 is so much sexier though

  • @Dslyecxi is arma 2 good like this,is like same?

  • @Daniel1The1Polski, ArmA2/Operation Arrowhead are very good as games, yeah. Definitely recommended if you find VBS2 interesting.

  • For the regular gamer I suppose Armed Assault is enough. I myself would definitely purchase VBS2 if I had €1000,- too much, heh. I am a realism freak and seeing these videos .. all those things you'd have to mod in Armed Assault are all included here. Like the bullet camera, or the real time editor. Thank you for uploading the videos by the way!

  • The bullet camera is absolutely trivial to make in ArmA. As to the RTE, a lot of that can be done via mods as well.

VBS2 is great for military customers, but to purchase it as a civilian is rather foolish. Better to stick with ArmA plus a mod like ACE.

  • That's true, but for the sake of having those 'mods' already implemented into VBS2, plus the engine improvements compared to Armed Assault, it seems it's a very nice piece of software to have.

Further I've heard from other persons who own both Armed Assault and VBS2, that they have removed the installation of ArmA completely because VBS2 is simply so overwhelming.

I haven't got the money to purchase VBS2, I'm merely a young student, but perhaps some day..

  • I strongly disagree with that, and I've been using VBS2 professionally since it was in beta. ArmA + a good mod is a much wiser purchase. VBS2 has no multiplayer community to speak of, and that's a huge part of why it's not worth it. The only thing more significant is the fact that it's $1500 and thus over 50 times more expensive that ArmA. There is no way you can convince me that the features it adds somehow make it 50x better than ArmA + mods. It's not true.

  • I won't try to convince you that the features make the game better, but if you truly are a realism freak and wants to create realistic scenarios then VBS2 would be much more suitable. I for one would love to have the RTE in Armed Assault, for the easy of placing units precisely where you want them, of course it can be done in ArmA but it'd take much longer.

As for multiplayer community, the main reason I'd use it is for realistic scenarios. And I'd also keep ArmA installed still, for co-ops.

  • Oh, what a load of crap. You're trying to pull a "If you *really* care about realism" card on someone who actually has both ArmA and VBS2 and has extensively used both of them, to inclued mods for ArmA that make it a much more enjoyable *gameplay* experience than VBS2. Namely, the ACE mod. You can take your "theory" and do whatever you want with it - I'm basing my opinion on first-hand usage of all of this.

  • Get Arma, get Queens Gambit, mod the fuck out of it, and you got yourself VBS2

  • Sweet! I almost ordered this just now.

  • Why? It's $1500. You can get ArmA from Steam for $30, it's close enough to the same thing.

  • I was joking with all of you. I agree with you a 100%. :)

  • Actually, ArmA2 will use this system

  • this could do with some dynamic physics yup... thats about all looks awesome to bad you cant buy it

  • You can buy ArmA, and it's basically the same thing.

  • Yeah, Yeah!! :) You'r right... Ihave one Original Arma, so i'm happy! :) very happy...

  • Wow... IT's good, but i don't know about this... What kind of Flashpoint or better ARMA is???

  • For a gamer, there is no reason to purchase VBS2. ArmA is basically the same thing and is a tiny fraction of the price.

  • but where i can get the CH-53 and The Hummvees ?

  • The developers really need to look at COD 4 to see how running animations should be done.

  • You know if the Canadian Forces uses this?

  • I wonder if the PS3 is capable of playing this (If there was a PS3 port that is.)

  • wont be able to, coz PC's have more controller buttons than game consols. and games like this need alot of controls.

  • does ArmA have all that same stuff that those three videos showed?

  • It has a lot of it. Not all of it, but a lot.

  • oh ok, is that vehicle checkpoint stuff that he got out of the Humvee, is that in ArmA?

  • wa is virtual battlespace coz it looks exactly the same as ArmA

  • vbs2 dot com

  • is it very similar to ArmA

  • arma is the slimmed down verson of vbs 2

  • god why does everyone answer to a comment i made half a year ago! ive already got arma and i knew that it is slimmed down months ago!

  • hang on can i just buy vbs2 from a shop?

  • If you like the idea of spending $1500 on it when you could buy ArmA: Combat Operations instead for $39 or less, yeah, you can buy VBS2 as a civilian.

  • ye i found that out, its wkd though its used by the military in some countries. hang on..... do u have it? anyway at this time i am actually downloading the ArmA demo! cant wait!

  • My job involves VBS2, look at the most recent videos I've posted and you can see examples of it.

  • oh thats wkd man! ive always thought about designing pc games

  • Is the bullet camera only available in VBS2?

  • offically yes, but i'm sure they will port it into amred assault
