  • 1:51-2:04 the backing track is amazing.. the level of emotion. I wish that part would have been turned up on the studio album. I also love how raw and unpolished her voice is here. amazing.

  • Tegan said at a concert that the guitars in this demo were "the sound of her anxiety". I've been dying to hear it! Thanks Kate!!!

  • I absolutely love T&S acoustics but I actually prefer this song with the drums.

The drums really add to the song IMHO.

  • AGH THEY NEED TO STICK TO ACOUSTIC!

  • Is it at all sad that the only two women i would ever consider marrying dont play for my team as it were? tegan and sara are both so smart and funny as fuck.

  • i prefer this its much more raw sounding it shows they have some sort of punk influence

its weird to say but i'm like t&s they both grew up listening to punk rock and play music like this

    love them

  • dang dude... i'd nail both tegan and sara!

  • when you're nineteen....call me...

  • she sounds British...but an odd cockney-British

  • <3333333

  • id have to admit this is a gud song

  • i luv this song

  • I think I just fell in love <3

  • i really like this song. i prefer the aucoustic version tho!

  • any way to get this song now?

  • Hey I absolutely love this, could you send it to me??????????

  • Hearing the original lyrics really put a new light on this song. It was always a sad and touching song, but now that I know what it was originally trying to say it's pretty heartbreaking.

Thanks for posting these for those of us who otherwise never would have heard them.

  • Oh wow, I love this version!! The guitar sounds a bit like old Bush circa 1990s.

  • @braticas guitar on the demo is so raw.

  • I really like the rougher sound of this version and textwise, it really seems to make more sense.

  • Favorite song by them

  • pure amazing and the demos feel so much more............real!!!!!

  • I love this song so much :D but the demo isnt that great

when they sing it live its like heaven on earth or sex on the stage lmao

as my friend would say lol :D but its okay if you hate them and or

hate the song with a passion is your opion and it matters :S

  • love the electric guitar in this version.

  • favorite song on The Con cd

  • I like the lower range better for this song. I think it gives the song more meaning. The higher range chosen here is kind of poppy.

  • <33333

  • Where'd you get this?

    I love this demo :]

  • Not bad.

  • man, if this had the drumming in it, it'd be amazing :D

  • very beautiful!

  • i prefer the lyrics in the demo! starting with "when your nineteen call me" and ending with "i was nineteen, calling"! really touching and easy to relate to. instead of the recorded song its "i was nineteen, call me" and "i was nineteen, calling". the demo makes more sence....

  • i love this version!!!!!

  • Holy shit, I think I like the demo better. Just add the crazy drum part from the album and this is amazing.

  • Ahh this is soo cool :O

although I do prefer the one they ended up releasing

  • what kind of version is this.

its tottaly diff then the origanel

  • Comment removed

  • Fucking awesome!!! Killer guitar!

  • @Masoukishin if you don't like them why watch videos of them and then take the time to write that you don't like them?! just seems totally pointless.

  • they are. i still don't see the point in writing such a negative comment though lol

  • i love this demo. omg <3

  • indie bands ? like actual indie ? cuz the killers IS NOT indie Imho

    Hmm try

    Say hi to your mom

    bright eyes

    Iron&wine

    Wilco

    New Buffalo

    &

    Stars to name a few

  • that's a great list. except Wilco, who are signed to Nonesuch records, a division of Time Warner, which is in no way an independent ('indie') label.

  • i agree. the killers aren't indie. they're quite mainstream.

  • weird hair cool song tho

  • need more indie bands. tell me some loveees :]

  • Metric

    Yeah Yeah Yeahs

    The Killers

    The Sounds

    =]

  • stuff coming out of New York and toronto and canada in general is realy awsome right now

  • wat? if you dont like my opinion move on. its a waste of time to spend your life calling people names and a bit childish too...

  • @fuckinrightdan you're dumb

  • Correct genre is indie-rock/pop. NOT emo.

  • Awesome!

  • They are amazing so talented

  • do you think you could maybe put up the link to this song or something?

  • what do you mean? sorry...

  • as in the song in a link to download o_o

  • @Kate1157 where did you get it in the first place?

  • @Kate1157 if you still have it can you email it to me...ive been looking everywhere for this

  • The lyrics make more sense here. Don't know why.

  • send it to meee too pleasee if you cann

  • omfg could you send me these version of the songs, this is simply love love love!

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!

  • would you please send me this? :)

  • ihr seit so wunderschön<3

    eure Stimme atemberaubend<3<3<3

  • I like the acoustic version of this.. I mean, their live one on that podcast

  • me too! that version is amazing :)

  • the words are totally changed, its still cool.

  • It isn't a "guy" she's singing about.

  • I know. Sorry. I remembered after the fact that they are lesbians but felt too lazy to make a reply to myself.

  • i don't even listen to the album version of this song anymore. i love this so much, it feels more personal when she says "you are nineteen."

  • i like the rraa ness demos are cool

  • you couldn't of have said it better

  • i like the rraa ness too

  • OHH! ME LIKE SO MUCH! SEND? :)

  • acoustic>demo>studio

order of preference for the versions of this song

  • could not agree more

  • i like this version i prefer studio version tho

  • Can someone explain this song to me? Because I went to a dance show at my sister school and they dedicated a dance to her because she died, and this is the song they were dancing to.

  • because it's a nice song about love and farewell

  • probably because the person who died was probably nineteen?

  • Oh... my... that's different.

From the studio version I mean.

This doesn't sound bad. but I prefer the studio one.

But boy, the people they worked with, the band, and themselves really know how to make a good song great.

    And this is proof.

That's why I like hearing demos.

I get to see/hear progress and sometimes I mix that and the finished product in my head, so when I sing it, I'd sing the notes that I think sound better.

.... I know.... I think I love music two much.

    ^_^ Thanks for it!

  • i like how in this version the lyrics are 'when you're nineteen, call me' and in the album version the lyrics are 'i was nineteen, calling' interesting observation.

  • yea, i noticed that too. i kind of liked the lyrics in the demo more.. and tegan's voice here is just so raw and nice.

  • yeah i love the rawness. i especially love saras floorplan demo, ah so good!

  • Are these tegan back up vocals or sara vocals?

  • tegan I think

  • acoustic version is better

  • Dopenezz

  • i might like the demo version better than the actual album version.... love them.

  • so i'm basically obsessed with this demo version :)

tegan and sara...well, there's no words. but i love them.

  • fuck me this is amazin i love tegan with a passion i no theyre identicle but theres something bout tegan i just love hur i love this song and the spinners interface versions they both amazin

  • i want them to come to iowa =[

  • ya i like the demo more than the version on the cd

  • i havent heard this song in awhile and now all i can say is damn!

  • i like the guitar. and for some reason this version is easier to understand as far as what the song means...but is till like the other version better.

  • i like this better than the version that they released .. the guitar rocks !

  • this is great! i love this song!!!!!!!!!!! :) me and my gf met when she was 19 hehehe <3

  • hey :}

where did you get the demo cd?

    its amazing!

  • that sounds amazing, I wish I had the demo record

  • I love this song. It says it all. I miss you I miss you I miss you I miss you

  • These guys are brilliant even in their demos. Which are sometimes better than the released version of the tune.

  • these guys? you mean girls...

  • Oh...these are GIRLS??? :^)

Yes, I was using the generic form of "guys" not gender specific.

Everybody knows no male "guys" could sing this well...except maybe SOAD! :^)

  • omg i love them so much they sing great in every way...live....radio...album...they never fail to give a great performance....thanks for posting <3

  • :) fkn awesome!

  • i absolutely love their voices.

and did they say "you're nineteen"?!!!

  • yep

  • whoa totally different compared to the other version but this one is a little edgier i like it its nice

  • loooool

  • woah! i like this version way better! do you know where i can get it?

  • wow this sounds so beautiful, pure yet raw.. awe-ish

  • i love the demo versions of these girls! the produced album versions are freakin wonderful, but there is something raw and energetic that just lets the soulfullness bleed through with such a beautiful intensity

  • well that wasn't poetic or anything.. i mean.. not at all...

    lol ;-)

  • you know i really like this version of this song better. maybe cuz there was no effects in the backround, hmm

  • tegan and sara are the bomb. i love the part were there like "love me" and "love you"

  • i love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • Does anybody wonder what she means with: "When you're nineteen, call me"

The other "I was nineteen, call me" makes a lot more sense to me .. idk?

    What do you think?

  • i dunno.. i find this version makes more sense....

meaning like shes waiting for someone but they were to young...

i dunoo....butt tegan could make no sense at all and still steal me heart :)

  • She probably means imagine how I'm feeling when you're nineteen like, when you're my age..probably like, in my situation.. idk..

  • agreed with slackie123 - this song isn't about a guy

  • ya this is with no effetcs... just plain talent!!!!!

  • The demo version of Nineteen is not much different from the album version.. just the lyrics. I like it =)

  • I love all the demos. You can hear how they originally viewed the songs and then you get to see how they changed . Like in Nineteen demo Tegan says "When your nineteen call me." Thanks for uploading them.

  • Nice comment, I agree

  • this sounds more true

    i love it

  • solid. can you upload more?

  • oops just went to your page and saw you did upload other demos! thanks :)

  • :-)

  • amazing<3

...then again what do expect from t&s?

  • wow this is an amazing demo! it actually sounds extremely similar to the album version...there are little differences though and love both versions. these girls never cease to amaze me :)

  • little differences...lol base and drums? :P

  • ok ok maybe there are a couple not so little differences! lol but yeah i expected it to be even more different than it is if you know what i mean. this is pretty extensive for a demo...but that is t&s style after all.

  • lol i know i was just teasing ...it does sound the same though like...its essence.. they really do just love making music, so inspiring :)

  • i want this CD! *faints* lol

  • Aw :-D I'm happy you watched my videos, I love it when I know people have watched and really appreciated the amazingness that is Tegan and Sara!!

  • is she saying "you're nineteen"?

  • yep, I think so

  • This is my least favorite of all their songs ONLY BECAUSE! It reminds me of my ex-girlfriend, which is something I'd rather not think about. Which I don't know, would that possibly make it the best of their songs because it has such emotional meaning to me? Hmmm that's something I'm going to have to think about.

  • I love tegan and sara... I am so sad that they come to germany not that often... the DEMO is cool.

  • I wish they would come to Scotland more often too!! I love the demo too :-)

  • my most favorite song without. This song was appropriate when I was nineteen and continues to be now. It's beautiful. And this demo.. how does Tegan do it? I love them both but her songs are the ones that capture me best.

    <3

  • First she says "Calling" and later she says "call me." According to the lyric booklet from the CD.

  • o ok thanx...

  • no problemm

  • oooo i love the chorus-ness of the chorus.

  • LOL :-)

  • this is my favorite of all the demos, i think :)

  • i like this version! I like when she says, "I'm nineteen"

    makes it more personal

  • I agree. I heard Tegan say that she layered so many guitars on this version and it just sounded awful....or something along those lines. But I lloovvee this version!!

  • Wauw, I love this demo...

  • everytime I listen, it gets more intense to me.

    that song is the best.

  • that song is great. i just got them to know by a friend of mine, who showed me this song. now im listenin to it all the time ;) thats awsome.

thanks for uploading and excuse my bad english ;)

  • they sound british

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

I agree with yoyoseeme90 you are my favourite person on youtube too =]

  • thanks! you're so kind to say that :-)

I'm so pleased that you like them xxcatie93

  • omg I love the way she sings this, it's so raspy and I love that. So much emotion! Thank you so much for posting these, again.

  • you are officially my favorite person on youtube, lol

  • Wow thanks! You're officially now one of my favourite commenters!!

    Lol!!

    :-)

  • i loooove these demos man!! thank you soo much. it really is like hearing the song for the first time when you listen to one of them. really cool. i like all the 'you were nineteen, we are nineteen' thing...its really cute. and i love listening to this cause there voices sound SOOO raw!! i feel like i can connect to the song so much more when i hear their voices like this.

  • "Your nineteen, call me"... Wow, they really did make changes to this one.

I may like this version better, only because I am nineteen. :) I think you get that. And again, the "call me" part feels much more emotional in this version. I love it.

    Thank you, Kate! :)

  • Thank you so much for uploading this! I absolutely love this version of the song. I think I may actually prefer the demos over the album. There is just something so raw about them - it's like I'm hearing these songs for the first time all over again.

  • I've been checking everyday for these demos. I really appreciate it! they are so great to listen to. and, if you have the con dvd it's cool to be able to know what they're talking about when the reference the demos.

i really wish i had a copy of the demos, they were unfortunately sold out at the concert i went to, but im thrilled that i can listen in here. thanks again!

  • thanks for the comment! I agree about The Con DVD. It's all the better now I know what they're talking about lol. i love this version :-) I think i like the intro better.... and Tee's voice has more emotion in it too.

OK, I'm gonna sound like such a geek here lol....but i'm gonna ask anyway :-S

is your name related to "Like O, Like H" in any way?! ("Take the hinges off the door"). There I said it. I'm officially Tegan and Sara's dorkiest fan!

  • i don't think that was a dorky question lol! :) but maybe im a dork too.

  • Lol

    Thanks :-)

  • Haha, it's okay. im glad you said that because that means im not the dorkiest fan. but, yeah i got the name from like o, like h.
