Aww, it's a little Nutria! we have them here! ANd yes, they are Nutrias. They are originally from South America but have been introduced to North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. I do call them little water rats cus thats what they look like. Sooo cute.

it's definitely a muskrat. We have a lot of them in Ontario and I see them swimming all the time.

We have nutria in eugene oregon so they are totally native to north america as well.

No, it's not a Nutria rat. It is a muskrat which is not really a true rat or member of the "rattus"genus.
A Nutria rat is from South America, whereas the muskrat is native to North America

It's a Nutria rat, they are common in Louisiana I read. It also goes by the name Coypu. :) It's neat seeing it swim!
