Sorry but if you don't know how to pronounce the runes, should you really be educating others? No offense. I encourage you to keep striving forth. This path deserves much more dedication than it being some new-agie thing. The runes demand a lot of attention. I'm sorry, I usually don't say anything if I can't say something nice. But I just had to say something. We all start somehere. But OMG! The reason pronunciation is important is because "runes" are forces; the sound holds the key to that forc
@StringKingSix be nice, like you said we all started somewhere, now in defence, the pronouciation IS very important, I also tend to see them more as souls myself, I'm sure with time she will also
i had that same deck of rune cards, they helped me learn about the runes little by little, and i'm no expert in the runes, i still have to use the book to explain them, a nd i'm learning them still! i have done readings for myself

I'm just getting started in the pagan way and feeling really happy about my new found ideas. I might start a video log about my new way and how I'm getting started. :)
I know some of the rune meanings need to go over them a bit more, I have a set I made author's name escapes me we all know him he has some runes I made that are different..made me want to go back and work with those (thanks)!
Do you base the meaning (like 'Current situation/feelings') on the runes with the directions or the associated elements for you? So is it Earth or west that is 'current situation' (to you)?
Um, as far as I knew, earth air fire and water is a Greek philosophical thing, and the runes are Northern European. If there were going to be any "elements" in the Northern way, it'd be fire and ice.
Firstly, you're confusing Germanic tribesmen with "Vikings" - not every person in these tribes went a-viking. Secondly, there's no evidence that these people used runes as anything other than writing or magical charms. The runic divination obsession is a modern one - curse you, Ralph Blum!
@TheJames8411 just another form of divination. runes meaning are kinda similar to tarot meanings. like death, it doesnt mean death, just means major transformations or new beginnings.
Um, actually, runes are and have historically been a form of writing. The divination craze with runes is a modern one. Stop stealing other people's cultural heritage..
@uktransplantedyank oh i know! don't worry, i know all about runes. if it wasn't for them we wouldn't know anything about Scandinavian religion. but the question was directed to the runes being used as divination tools. i also know that tarot was originally playing cards, and if i am correct, they still are in many European countries. don't worry, im not terribly uneducated.
Actually, they are dangerous if used improperly. If they're being used to protect, heal, or curse and the person carving them doesn't know what he/she is doing, the runes in question can do more harm than good.
Um, OK. Runes were never historically used as divination, but have at it if you like. Just know that using them as divination doesn't necessarily count as "knowing how to use them." You'd have better luck pondering the mystical meanings of Arial Black - at least it's a modern font.
The above aside, runes are a form of writing that's sometimes used in charms and curses. The divination craze is essentially a modern one that started with Ralph Blum.
@uktransplantedyank these type of runes are powerful symbols that each carry a unique magickal meaning, and in my opinion, should not be used as an alphabet because you'll end up with... well.. for lack of a better word, a "magick soup" of sorts.
Runes are sometimes used in charms and curses, but they're primarily an alphabet. Germanic tribespeople wouldn't have created runic headstones for graves if they thought that they'd be cursing the dead inadvertently. Also, Harja wouldn't have written his own name on a comb back in the 2nd century if he thought it had a magical meaning. Pre-Christian Germanics were a very superstitious lot, so they wouldn't commonly write with runes if they were mainly magical.
In other words, your argument that runes "are powerful symbols that each carry a unique magickal meaning, and in my opinion, should not be used as an alphabet" doesn't hold up in a historical context.

i don't understand runes as a divination tool. i have a hard time figuring out exactly what it is talking about. i find that the definitions are too broad. tarot is more specific
Runes aren't meant to be a divination tool. They're an alphabet, first and foremost. They were also used in charms and curses historically. Runic divination was essentially the brainchild of one Ralph Blum.
In short, it's no wonder you're having a hard time understanding runes as a divination tool. From my perspective, there's no point to it.

I'm sorry Pixie but you are missusing the runes and each rune have not a meaning to each element. That laminated paper you are using is not the old futhork (pronounsed "futoork" in old nordic) and if they said it was in the store you should ask too get your money back. @Lodrandar As I wrote above yhat was my point....I have no problem with Wiccan types using them but at least know what your talking about.....Learn about there history and how Odin sacrificed and killed himself to gain there understanding and that we must sacrifice something of ourselves to learn them.....
@NickAffliction Hi ! I use a goat skin chamois wiping skin for this use only and it works well for me. I perfer to use natural materials as much as possible to connect with the natural forces. You can also stain your Runes with your blood to strengthen your connection and it is best not to let anyone touch your runes. I consecrate my tools with oil of cloves and the light of a full moon , but that is me. You will find what works best for you. You will just know , you will feel it.
our ancestors would be proud that this is all possible. this kind of openness over the last 2000 years has only become possible in the last 100 years.
futhark is pronounced foothark (the u is like oo in food) according to germanic studies.
You are not using the elder futhark (it has 24 symbols, the younger futhark has 16 and the anglosaxon futhorc has 29. ) if you are using a chart that claims to be the elder, it is wrong. One of the reasons I know this is because of "Os". it is part of the anglosaxon runes (fonetic O) , in the elder it was called ansuz and stood for A. the rune names are also different fromt the elder.
Interesting video. I am an Odinsman and I am currently studying the runes. If you are really interested in the runes, start by studying the lore of the runes first. Striking black hair and porcelain white skin. What!!! 5:00 what was that beeping sound?? (you have to direct the universal energy through yourself, beep beep beep beep beep) hahaha. Look you dont need anything to tell you the future, the reason why is the same reason why people have Deja Vu.
What's your take on each rune having it's own individual consciousness? I have heard that the Germanic peoples who used the Futhark that their philosophy was everything is living. This makes sense with how elemental spirits can be created by us. Example would be the Greek pantheon needed humans to pray in order for them to stay alive, peoples awareness toward them gave them power.
Ive been wanting to learn about Runes,, Thaks for sharing,, :) I will buy some limabeans next time Im at the food store. Im hoping my Metaphysical store has the chart. BB!! YAY u saw a GB Heron,,, Awesome birds :)
I wasnt sure if the runes were for me.... But, i started having drems about a man showing them to me. Im having trouble learning them. But, the dream was a sure sign for me to work harder! Blessed be!
I myself have just started working with the runes. They really have a way of speaking to me that tarot doesn't seem to. Maybe I'm just not proficient enough yet. And good for you for putting this on youtube, very few videos out there.
I love your videos. This one is so funny... I was thinking about how I do some of the same gestures you do and how I sometimes feel like a dork. THEN, you say it to yourself. Thanks for the confermation. LOL! Anyway, Thanks for all your postings. - XO Love and Blessings

Very good video, Other forms of divination: Celtic Ogham, black mirror, crystal gazing, wax & water, and native american animal oracle. I think you're rather good at explaining, You have inspired me to make my own video... look for me in a few weeks :) Odin be with you.
yea isnt she? when she said she was 33 i was like, "no way" lol ive always wanted hair like that, 2... idk i have an obsession with black hair. i want black hair. but did i get black hair? noooooo i got boring old brown hair. bleh. lol ^^
Loved your video. I always wanted to learn runes and just didn't know how to go about it. Can you please email me the website where I can download the rune chart? Thanks. Blessed Be.
Okay I'm still learning to use my runes that I made in ceramics and I've been getting confused in regards to what happens if you draw a rune and it gets set down sideways(I try not to influence how they get set, so I look away when putting them down). The two books I have don't mention that. Do I rotate them one way like left or right or do they have a separate meaning?
Thanks for any help! I'll check back soon. Pardon my noobiness, lol.
sorry if this is inapropriate, but I've been reading runes for a while and to be honest it is entirely up to you as to weather or not you care if they are upside down (markstave) or not. all of the runes have both positive, negative, and nutral meanings, it (in my opinion) is completely up to you to determine which meaning is being provided to you. The runes love to warn and love to tell you that "you already know this."
I have commented on your channel which you probably saw by now, so, cutting it short, another one of my supposed totems is a Penguin, so like, there's absolutely no chance of me seeing those two totems out and about where I am unless I visit a zoo or see them in a museum somewhere, unfortunately.
Using a chart to LEARN the runes is fine, but don't think because you can look up the symbolism in the flick of a wrist means you shouldn't take the time to understand them on your own.
I used flashcards to help teach myself, with a rune on the front, and the phonetic, literal, and symbolic meaning on the back.
I will pm you with the answer....basicaly, Germanic letters were most popular "back in the day" until latin took over as the main alphabet...more in a pm
That's not exactly historically accurate. First of all, the Celtic tribes had their own system of writing, the oghams. Secondly, runes were partially derived from the Latin alphabet, so they certainly didn't come first and they certainly weren't more widespread. Furthermore, runes were historically used only for writing and the occasional odd bit of magic - runic divination didn't come into being until Ralph Blum started the runic divination craze.
Celtic tribes historically didn't use Teutonic runes. They had their own *writing* sytem - the oghams. Runes weren't historically used as a divination tool - they were an alphabet that was sometimes used in charms and curses.
I suppose runic divination *could* work, but you'd be better off pondering the mystical meanings of Times New Roman.
I should probably have asked this in my last response, but I wanted to see if I could find it myself first. Can you also let me know the website you found a rune chart? I'm Googling and can't seem to find anything that is actually a rune chart. Thanks!
Hello I just found this (your) video, Q:-- What is if anything while I take a rune and place it down . it is face down (knot seeing the face) ?

I myself have just started working with the runes. They really have a way of speaking to me that tarot doesn't seem to. Maybe I'm just not proficient enough yet. And good for you for putting this on youtube, very few videos out there.

Pardon my noobiness, lol.
pixiefaerie718 2 years ago
sorry if this is inapropriate, but I've been reading runes for a while and to be honest it is entirely up to you as to weather or not you care if they are upside down (markstave) or not. all of the runes have both positive, negative, and nutral meanings, it (in my opinion) is completely up to you to determine which meaning is being provided to you. The runes love to warn and love to tell you that "you already know this."

I have commented on your channel which you probably saw by now, so, cutting it short, another one of my supposed totems is a Penguin, so like, there's absolutely no chance of me seeing those two totems out and about where I am unless I visit a zoo or see them in a museum somewhere, unfortunately.

does anybody know where i can download the rune chart? all the ones ive looked at are like a spamming website.
edwardluver315 2 years ago
Using a chart to LEARN the runes is fine, but don't think because you can look up the symbolism in the flick of a wrist means you shouldn't take the time to understand them on your own.
I used flashcards to help teach myself, with a rune on the front, and the phonetic, literal, and symbolic meaning on the back.

Runes are very indepth tools... the charts are fine. After this video series I am going to start studing Runes more indepth.

Why do Celts use Teutonic runes?
marcus3379 2 years ago
I will pm you with the answer....basicaly, Germanic letters were most popular "back in the day" until latin took over as the main alphabet...more in a pm
CharmingPixieFlora 2 years ago
@CharmingPixieFlora
That's not exactly historically accurate. First of all, the Celtic tribes had their own system of writing, the oghams. Secondly, runes were partially derived from the Latin alphabet, so they certainly didn't come first and they certainly weren't more widespread. Furthermore, runes were historically used only for writing and the occasional odd bit of magic - runic divination didn't come into being until Ralph Blum started the runic divination craze.
uktransplantedyank 7 months ago
@marcus3379
