Good question. These riflemen were doing several demonstrations. This particular volley was to represent how a full-blow firefight would appear or a 'fire at will' scenario.
Right blesyk. In this particular demonstration the men were ordered to fire three shots. The first shot was fired together as a company and their following two shots were "at will." (I am in the back row the 5th guy over from the right.)
I couldve been in a reenactment at Gettysburg. But i was too young. :(
