Originally in the stage production, the mistress would sing this song, NOT Eva. They gave it to Madonna in the move, but it really should have been the mistress singing it as that is how it was originally written for the stage show. :)
@wickedpheonix1995 I think it works better for the movie. Having the Mistress sing a song seems...obsolete. She is introduced and then promptly removed from the story, so I don't think a song is appropriate for her, because we do not have enough stage time to understand her character. In the movie, it just seems to fit perfectly, and helps to forward the plot. I love the ASIAH reprise in the movie, that seems more appropriate.
the Brilliant original staging of Hal Prince was missing, but it was nice to have EVITA back in London. and being at the opening night, Elena Roger was sensational!! never seen a person with her stage presance, she was breath taking, and it is a shame it isn't caught on film or CD, i remeber being dissapointed when i had the soundtrack, thank god i saw her live!
If I am not mistaken Madonna (Eva) sings the full ASIAH in the movie and the mistress sings a reprise with Eva singing the "don't ask anymore" at the end. Here it does seem the Mistress has the full song so I can't imagine Eva sang it also earlier in the show. Odd.
This is just Gorgeous.

Lorna Want stole the show with this song. A really beautiful rendition - you just fell in love with her.
