  • Sounded like that 300 had turbo.

  • That Chrysler's got a HEMI. Very reminiscent of the famous 'Bullitt' chase: Mopar vs. Ford. I'm a Mopar man, but I was rooting for Driver all the way. :-)

  • Great scene - I just always felt it would have been better with the wheel spinning and then coming to a dead stop at the end. I pick up on these little subtelties, oh yes I do.

  • well chrysler is dodge and dodge does have hemis so i wouldnt be suprised if it kept up with a gt

  • i agree i think the 300C is souped up

  • maybe the 300C is souped up..

  • i dont understand why he has to turn the car around and go in reverse

  • Not realistic at all....many flaws....

  • 0:54 camera cars is spitting up dust at the mustang

  • man that mustang has 3 reverse gears... shitty sound effects.com

  • this mpovie was good for a standard 5.0 and an automatic 300c, damn that car had hit coming, emen to to musclecars yo!!!!

  • I'm surprised no one else has noticed the differences between this chase scene and the version shown in theaters.

  • @EnragedOwl was it the engine noises from the mustang sound like its changing gear when it reversing

  • Good chase, but you cant beat Bullitt

  • Great scene but only action scene in this film ...

  • GT 5.0 complete with custom transmission with 8 forward and 3 reverse gears ... lol . Such a poor effort at a car chase. If I get past the poor audio editing and the Focus - Toyota crossbreed, I can’t get past the fact that at 0.55 you see both cars take to the dirt and the camera car recording the chase covers the ford in a sea of dirt - simply a poor effort.

  • make me think of Mad Max ;)

  • HEY....he's not wearing a seatbelt! :O

  • 300c's ain't shitty that's probz a hemi version that's suped up too

  • @bukkaz1 Only black people think 300c's arent shitty

  • @scuds03 explain to me why they are shitty, and dont say because they look crap or anything because that is a matter of opinion

  • @bukkaz1 They're not, his comment probably related to the fact that the Mustang has far superior performance capabilities, and there is no way the 300C could keep up.

  • @bukkaz1 If you have ever ridden in or driven one you'd know...The suspension and engine is sloppy, and the interior is suuuper cheap. Its full of cheap toy grade plastic and fake chrome. Its super heavy for what it is making it a sluggish boat. Its reliability record is shit. Also the company that built it Chrysler, is crap...probably why they filed for bankruptcy in 2009.

  • listening to that sound... my weewee got all mushy when i realised the epic fail of gear changes in reverse.

  • 1:11 Epic.

  • How the fuck does a shitty 300C keep up with a Mustang 5.0 GT?

  • @scuds03 It didn't...lol

  • @Cjjr72984 Haha I mean b4 it wrecked

  • Best (and only) chase scene lol

  • Comment removed

  • Not to mention it's going from a Ford Focus to a Toyota Corolla at 0:41 as well.

  • This is painful to watch after seeing the Bullit chase again. Where the fuck are the proper sounds? It's like they used the same THREE loops for the audio, and then there's no continuity after the handbrake 180 and... Jesus Christ, it's just awful! Not to mention all the things @SatansSpatula said... Oh and I found another to add to the list: 0:41 , the silver oncoming hatchback turns bright blue in the next angle.

Those who are defending this clip are the true morons. This scene just sucks.

  • @Fred931v2 This is only a rough cut of the scene from the screener version, meaning the sound and continuity editing is unfinished. In the actual scene, there's more continuity and better/different sound.

Thus, those who are not defending this clip are truly ignorant. This scene just [insert antonym of sucks here].

  • @PlainviewStudios It would be nice if there was any sort of mention of this ANYWHERE in the video with annotations or in the description. I haven't seen the movie.

  • so solid

  • @0:43 the oncoming car changes color TWICE. Silver -> BRIGHT BLUE -> black. @0:12 they're on the open road. Immediately after they're back in the 'burbs. @0:24 they turn off the local road and are instantly transported to a faraway, desolate road (with, mysteriously, one sedan following them). @1:12 driver e-brakes into reverse for *absolutely no reason*, then @1:30 the Chrysler has virtually stopped yet skids sideways and flips @1:30. This is the worst edited movie I've seen in years!

  • @SatansSpatula GOOD POINTS BUT.. STILL AWESOME

  • @SatansSpatula Well aren't you top shit for pointing out little things that doesn't matter. How about this, you shut your mouth or I'll kick your teeth down your throat and I'll shut it for you.

  • @SatansSpatula @ 0:12 thats to show a timelaps/okay they have been driving for a while. now the color changing car is weird. @1:12 he E-Brakes cuz the crystler was going to T-bone him and he would skid out and flip, so makes sense, @1:30 is retarded, cuz he was going so slow, now going up the barrier kinda but skidding HELL NO, he rode up the barrier but the most that could have happened is he rides up it gets stuck, now flying 4 ft into the air is stupid. so im half and half with u

  • Comment removed

  • when he does the turn around look how slow the 300 was going, then it gets mad air. Fake

  • reminds me of the Bullitt chase

  • Only thing I don't like about this is the lack of wide angles to get a better idea of the action, especially during the "bumping" bits. I guess Refn was going for a restricted, Driver-subjective POV, but I think it would have made the scene more pleasurable to see more coverage.

  • The engine noise you can hear is from neither of the cars. It was added after filming. Which car the editors wanted it to be is anyones guess cause it doesnt match either.

  • @GregSmithTV I kinda wish they made this scene like the Bullitt chase with the actual car noises.

  • Driver doesn't change gears once going forwards........ay heck I still LOVE THIS FILM!

  • @lovethatmagic maybe it was an automatic

  • ....P.S how fast is a Chrysler 300 anyway???

Answer just as fast as a mustang

  • @bigbigdave8080 Thats the new 5.0 mustang GT. In the real world that stang would leave the 300 for dead

  • @GregSmithTV SO TRUE!

  • Yes all very cleaver, hes in a mustang there in a tank, hard to keep up NO

He makes a handbrake turn and drives backwards... I could hear the gear box changing gear... In reverse...NO NO NO

Look i know its just a film but please its not a daf...

  • at 0:42 its a silver focus and at 0:43 its a blue corolla or something haha

  • @Lisek9291 lol i noticed this too when I saw it at the movies.. made me lol

  • the last 6 seconds are so goooood! those shots are the reason I love this movie.

  • Drive is one of the best movies i ever saw, but this is definitly not the best chase scene ever. ;)

  • haha cool scene there

  • Exceptional chase scene. Not the best though. I would rank several above it. The ending chase scenes in both Mad Max 1 & 2. The helicopter chase in Terminator 2. Steve Mcqueen taking names in Bullit. The Cooper Mini chase in Bourne Identity. The best of all time though was in an otherwise awful movie, Death Proof.

That said, only the Mad Max movies are enjoyable for me, as a whole, as Drive was. Best movie of 2011, imo.

  • @IndieAuthorX The chase scene in Ronin is #1

  • like that 300 could of kept up!!!!!

  • I'm a car head too and that's why when I watched this scene I knew there would be a lot of comments on how the mustang should've had this chase. But this is ridiculous! I mean seriously how many of you that comment with such detail about the cars can actually do shit with an actual car or even know each part in any car. 90% of people probably google their facts on their comments haha

  • @councilrep27 Especially when the fastest car in the movie was a souped up Impala.

  • @IndieAuthorX The director should've tried to lead the movie into that stock car racing.

  • its distracting how Xtina Hendrix's large boob keep wobbling in slow motion!

  • Must be nice to have 4 reverse gears.

  • I honestly don't understand why there's so much debating about the cars and how the chase would pan out in real life. Have you guys never seen a car chase in a movie before? They are without a doubt the single most unrealistic aspect of action/thriller movies any time they show up, and they require a lot of suspension of disbelief. The director knows nothing about cars and the movie isn't actually about the cars, it's about the Driver.

  • I am glad to see an '11 5.0 in a movie...much less an '11 Mustang GT Premium 6A black on black just like mine except the wheels, this car has the 18"s and mine has the 19"s. The car has a manual dimming rearview mirror, mine has auto dimming rearview mirror. I thought it odd that the rear headrests disappeard. The chase was B.S. A 300C that weighs 4300+#s w/ 345hp wouldn't have a chance against an '11 5.0 with 412hp that weighs 3800#s even with Christina Hendrick's fat ass and $1M in the back :D

  • Comment removed

  • Great movie. And the best part - NO RICERS!

  • This is the best vehicle choreography since the road warrior

  • Thats not even wut the car sounds like

  • cant change gears in reverse idiots :D

  • @xOGLx Also can't continue accelerating while sliding around a corner. :D

  • @xOGLx The changing in the gears is actually the sound from the Chrysler 300 as is most of this chase scene. You rarely hear the Mustang at all. 5.0L V8 vs a 6.1 V8, the hemi is going to be louder.

  • @xOGLx there is no rever--- FUCK!!! you beat me too it!! LOL

  • @xOGLx thats the other car

  • @xOGLx if you're refering to the sound it's probably just bad editing but if you wanted to make it possible he could be quickly letting off the gass a couple times. just a thought but yeah i never noticed that before but that is a mistake.

  • Comment removed

  • My hair's fucking standing on end.

  • I didn't get how he did that

  • This video should be labeled "Only Chase Scene"

  • Might be the worst sound editing I have ever seen/heard

  • @IEatNoobs22 - Agreed.

  • thumbs up if u GOT A BONER when this scene ended lmao

  • Only in a post-Michael Bay/Jason Statham/Vin Diesel/attention-deficit disorder world could a movie like Drive be this polarizing.

  • @44excalibur LOL you're posting this comment everywhere.

  • @UltimateWheelman Yep! And you must have gone to just as many vids as I did to see my comments. :) But it's true. A lot of these negative comments are from people who are used to watching junk like 'The Fast And The Furious,' which itself is nothing but a rip-off of 'Point Break.'

  • @44excalibur When al the vids are to the right, it's pretty easy to go from one vid to the next, but I don't go around posting the same comment over and over. ;) Anyway, you don't really know any of these people so you can't assume to know what they like. I've seen the great chase films like the original Vanishing Point and Gone in 60 seconds. Liking Fast and Furious/Michael Bay, etc, doesn't mean a thing.

  • @44excalibur These action sequences actually seem genuine and exciting. At least stuff isn't blowing up every five seconds. It's quiet, yet it's tense. I love it.

  • @CuriousGeorgeMonkey9 Thank you! I do too! :)

  • @44excalibur

Hey man, Lock, Stock was pretty good.

  • @tastynuggets21 I never said anything bad about Lock, Stock, & Two Smoking Barrels. But Statham has rarely done anything as good since.

  • The 5.0 in the movie is an automatic. This might help answer some of the comments about the reverse part of the chase.

  • Thought there would be more racing. Kind of a lame movie. Nice brutal scenes tho

  • its a movie and a awsome one at that

  • @spenceman12345 Are you jokeing? biggest peice of shit movie ever made! mars attack is better then this shit!!

  • @iamjoe88 this is the only reason youtube sucks because of d bags like you, go troll some one eles.

  • WORST MOVIE EVER!!! The sound effects are the same for both chase scenes in this movie for the engine sounds. I've heard better on my PS3 lol. Throttle blips on downshifts in a automatic!!! Really?!

  • @TrippzinTx Worst Movie? Haha, no this is a modern classic!

  • @TrippzinTx troll some more plz

  • Funny. I own a black 5.0 just like this one except mine has the rear louvers. In reality that pig of a Chrysler would never ever keep up on straits or in corners. Only in the movies!

  • @77barrj Could be the hemi chrysler 300

  • @77barrj It's an SRT8. It would destroy a 5.0 in real life.

  • @PurpleRaam That's just a Hemi C. It would have bigger wheels, different badging, and a different body kit if it was an SRT-8.

  • @PurpleRaam - As mentioned that's not an SRT8 and an SRT8 would not "destroy" a new 5.0. If anything they are about even.

  • drives backwards: sound goes" weeeeun, weuuun weeeuun" change gears while driving in reverse? THIS CAR MUST BE AWESOME

    no srsly, crap movie :)

  • this was basically just the transporter 4

  • ... still can't understands why they've chosen a heavy tank to chase the best muscle car ever made!

  • @Algerian32 YES!

  • i believe the explanation is that the Driver is a well-trained mechanic, and so it wouldn't be unreasonable for him to have modded the car to have reverse gears, especially when he knew he would be taking part in a pawn shop robbery.

  • @DinosaurSuccess He didn't, I've seen the movie, he was on a sidewalk and found a 5.0 and stole it. Which gave me wood how he drove it.

  • @YouSWes yeah but i don't think he went directly from there to the pawn shop. could be wrong.

  • This was a work print version of the film - the retail DVD/Blu Ray release has the reverse sound as it should be.

  • It was ok.

  • it isnt the chrysler shifting. the chrysler is an automatic and thats not the sound an automatic makes when shifting.

  • 4 people were in the chrysler...

  • Since when do Mustang have multiple reverse gears? I can clearly hear the car up-shifting when he's driving in reverse.

  • Just go watch the original, Bulitt

  • @Asestar True

  • I loved the film an the chase by the way. I can see they've driven the cars for real...it just sounds wrong.

  • @gavinberriman Maybe not wrong. This is a tribute to the films of the 80s', where reigned a kitsch, pastiche. I love this movie.

  • We pretty much all drive 'stick' over here and flooring it in reverse never sounds like that...it sounds like the car is screaming at you in monotone to stop. I get how he spun the car around but that was the only bit he used the handbrake on or he'd just fill the car with the smell of burning.

  • How many reverse gears does a Mustang have?!

  • @gavinberriman Why do you guys say that? Have none of you driven stick? He's using the hand brake. That's literally how you do it. This was all him and it was all genuine which is the part that trips me the fuck out because Ryan Gosling literally wanted to learn how to play ALL the parts.

  • @InfinityNZero we're talking about the sound not the action you moron. when he's in reverse you can hear the engine rpms raise and drop lie an accelerating car shifting through its gears. which is dumb since there is only one reverse gear

  • haha..to post that last comment...I had to type "scrotom' someone at youtube has got a sense of humour...

  • That last camera shot through the back window should have been enough...

  • you guys know that the sound of shifting isnt from the mustang?

  • @TheJayDason even if its the chrysler thats shifting, how is the mustang going fast enough in reverse that the other guy has to shift? makes no sense.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheJayDason its supposed to though

  • Those Chryslers go good in a straight line...

  • cuz hes a beast and does what he wants

  • seriously I never go out and buy movies on DVD, I just went out and bought this movie on DVD.

  • at one point he was in 10th gear, must be the 2014 model.

  • @tylerbrezi I know I just realized that this time around, lol.

  • so many gear shifts.. and shifting in reverse? makes the scene seem really fake. lol.

  • @tylerbrezi ... Hand brake. Its the hand brake. -___-"

Drive stick. I'm not being an asshole by saying any of this, because this is really how it looks like when you do a 180 spin.

  • i like the fact that they used street legal cars. and not some supped up supercars that no one in the world drives around the roads in. and how it felt more realistic and not like an invincible need for speed superhero driving around

  • @gamemaximum your gay

  • @CodyModo Says the ass wipe who can't even spell "you're" right. Don't flame on me because I have a personal opinion. The movie is just flat out dull.

  • @GameMaximum you aren't a movie buff. We get it.

  • Wow, how many reverse gears does that Mustang come with as standard?

  • In my opinion this movie sucked. I mean come on! The guy is driving in reverse and, by the sound effects, he's shifting gears while going backwards. Not to mention 60% of the movie is just everyone being mum or talking like they're fucking retarded, taking 2 minute pauses between lines. No normal conversation is like that. Plus, the story is weak. In every aspect this movie blows.

  • @GameMaximum It's alright, you have bad taste. There are worse things.

  • @GameMaximum I actually kind of agree with you. The movie was really slow, and wasn't too exciting. I know most people will try to be all critic-like and analyze the underlying themes and motifs of the plot synopsis character development tone..but I'm not one of those, I just want to enjoy a movie, and I didn't really enjoy this one. Maybe just the part where the girl get's her fuckin head blown off haha

  • @Arcturus117 Finally, a person who doesn't call me gay or stupid for expressing my thoughts about the movie. This movie can pass as amateur at best.

  • @Arcturus117 Thanks for the spoiler, asshat.

  • @heat4yoass you mad bro? And why are you on here trolling

  • "Its the best chase scene in a decade." lolololololol u dont watch too many movies do you?

  • I've had people tell me my dad should have pulled out because I said something mildly unfavorable about a song they liked, and while that's uncivil, it's also ok, as it's speech, even if it bothers me a little, so I say haters, hate away, you should be anywhere you want to be.

  • how can he change gears while moving back...

  • @decu1986 lol lol lol haha seriously i did not notice that, now it makes it look sooo lame and also how the 300 can keep up with the 5.0.

  • @decu1986 When is he changing gears

  • That's soooo unrealistic. That 300 could never keep up with a new 5.0.

  • 3 people can go to hell.

  • This movie was shit. I guess those that liked it have attention deficit disorder

  • @heat4yoass If you mean what I think you mean, you don't have a single clue what you're talking about. People who generally dislike this movie, from what I've seen, tend to dislike it because they thought it was slow. Having attention deficit disorder means you have a hard time paying attention to something. Hence your comment makes no sense hence your opinion is irrelevant.

  • BTW I didn't know that Mustangs had multiple reverse gears (in the vid you can hear it shifting while going backwards LOL)

  • Ppl are annoying, if you didn't like the movie why'd you click the video

  • @CaptainMorganThe3rd Yeah, I think so too. Why the fuck did they overrun them even when it was supposed to be high-end speeding on a straight road?

  • H AH AHA fucking pro driver. Never take your eye off the road what ever the risk.

  • The one problem with this scene is that the Mustang should have blown that Chrysler off the fucking road in a moment's notice, but aside from that it was impeccably executed

  • @CaptainMorganThe3rd Agreed, that 300c wouldn't have a chance, I have driven 5.7 hemis and I own an '11 5.0, no comparison. A low 13s 1/4 mile car vs a mid-high 14s 1/4 mile car. A 4.5s 0-60 car vs a 5.5s 0-60 car on the street, in a movie or on a track the difference would be huge.

  • For all you nay Sayers about shifting gears in reverse. There are stunt cars, such as those seen in Lights, Motors, Action! at Disney World Florida, that have reverse gears to reach high speeds whilst going backwards. Since the Driver is something of a mechanic prodigy and he works at a garage, he would probably have been able to modify the Mustang accordingly.
