I saw this performance, Celtic Spring stole the show at NTIF last year! And they were great fun to session with too, not like most of the snobs that play Irish music in Texas.
I know a good amount of the players in this area, and I'd be quite interested to know whom it is you consider to be "snobs", because I certainly have not met any, sir.
That would have been the rest of the NTIF session scene that year, who walked past the Celtic Spring kids and us in our small lowly session, to go play amongst themselves. With their noses well up in the air, lol.
That middle girl in Celtic Spring nailed it when she said "Who do they think they are? THIS is the cool session!" And she was right.
Most of these Texas players are snobs, it's a big reason few around here stay with trad Irish, even though the music is great.
@pk1225 Ah, well that's pretty sad then... everyone's got their tastes, though, as well as particular friends they may not get to play with often, NTIF being the one time they can.
I'm thankful that I've not met any as of yet, though...
I def Agree with carrie, you cannot play this tune without giving praise to the man who composed it, def the Isles most innovative piper and maybe one of the worlds most innovative musicians.
The Sleeping Tune is great tune, but you really should credit Gordon Duncan when you're introducing it (who wrote it when he was passd out with the alcohol after a piping competition - what a legend). And incidentally, he's Scottish.
Celtic Spring is so AMAZING!!! The Sleeping Tune is such a haunting tune, and Celtic Spring's version is so beautiful. Check it out on their latest album,'Cornerstone'.It is absolutely incredible. WOW!!!
its a scottish tune not irish culture.
