Tarja wanted them to, because she didn't know it was already sold out when they told her about it. When she learnt that it was sold out already, she cancelled her private appointments instead and came to the gig. The letter was misunderstandably written in that point.
That being said, I also prefer Anette in Nightwish.. but there is no reason to be unfair to Tarja.

One thing I wish she would stop is providing the harmony during the chorus cause its not working. She does other old NW songs decently, but not their biggest hit, unfortunately.
