  • I think it was Steve Albini who started this trend of shitty mushed out noisy sound. Terrible!

  • Its not just this album. I think the last 10 years has without a doubt been the WORST sound production for rock records in history. Not just Rush. It seems this horrible compressed washed out clutered mushy sound came into vogue and many rock bands followed. I just do get it. Noisy, washed out paper sounding drums, commpressed messy mixing unfortunatley became the sound of the 2000`s. The worst sound ever in rock history!

  • @TheAntman1265 good point, there are Frank Sinatra records from the early 60s that blow away "modern" rock recording in terms of production quality. rush just stands out in that they are seroius musicans yet never really had a audiophille level recording to capture that play (ie steely dan aja ect), in fact for the most part they "kill" the music in the studio with computer editing, compression VS playing live in the same room at the same time despite having the talent to do so in one take.

  • It wasnt a perfect record but it has some moving songs on it. I saw them on this tour it was great see them back together. Nitpick all you want...............

  • @chris72572 nitpick??? the record was so poorly produced its unlistenable on any decent hi-fi system.

  • rush is the best band.. ever...

  • Even as an album that was "recorded too loud " they have remastered it . If they had not it would still be one of the best albums of all time BECAUSE IT CAME FROM THE BEST MUSICIANS OF ALL TIME EVER ASSEMBLED IN A ROCK BAND > <PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheBgaddy vapor trails consider one of the worst produced & recorded record by any major band in modern times.

  • @fendergibs I bet you like 80s hairbands , rap and pop music and anybody thats liked by everyone else that thinks the grammys is music. Or anyone who makes alot of money but doesnt stay true to music as an art.

  • Pssh, haters. Rush is still Rush, and they are one of the best bands ever.

  • Rush is the epitome of spiritual music.

  • @Blukitnkat

I don't know if I would go that far, but they've definitely strayed from their roots. They've started incorporating more mystical imagery....think about "Far Cry". Rush used to exalt science and scientific progress, but in "Far Cry" they seem kind of ambivalent about it...you know "electrical changes are charging up the young" but it's not the world they wanted.

  • I`ve been listening to Rush since the eighth grade , and I`m 45 years old. These guys are beyond human . Does any body know who they opened up for in what was their first concert?

  • @evilfinger66 i think UFO or Kiss

  • @evilfinger66

I believe it was Manfred Mann. They later opened quite a bit for KISS. Like you, I'm a fan from early teens...I'm now 44 years old.

  • I'm afraid that the remix they're coming out with will sap all the power behind the sound that's there. If they thought it sounded bad, they wouldn't have released it, and the mixing will just be similar to S&A so it'll lose the identity it has of being so raw. My 2 cents anyway. If you want to know what layers of sound you're missing out on just watch the Rush in Rio video or listen to the Rio audio.

  • @DOMECHOPBRAINS remix wont help a poorly produced record. like polishing a old car with weathered paint. rush has bad taste and never really produced a audiophile recroding like steely dan's AJA ect... save for maybe S&A live and PW. even the new time machine blu-ray is a step back sound wise from S&A live, less dynamic and neil's drums are mixed lower in this dvd producing a less dynamic, detailed recording

  • Non of the music Rush has made is bad, just different in each decade. I personally like it all.

  • @MHSmusic97 not really

  • Beautiful, i love it <3

    and i'm 13

  • @DuffDITTOCobain I don't think anyone cares how old you are.

  • @xxMMxKIDxx I agree.Nobody CARES that your 13....And BEAUTIFUL???? Are you kidding me....LMAO...

  • @DEANLATEMODEL18 Oh,and a 13,you DO NOT GET ANY OF THEIR MUSIC!!!!!!

  • god this is hardcore...it single-handedly makes up for rush's 80's and 90's stuff

  • misread that as ambergris' crescent

  • @invincible696 you need to get more than 5 records

  • fendergibs is a Rush troll.

    Rolling Stones spy :x

  • Comment removed

  • @fendergibs Stay back in the 80's and let us like their modern albums.

  • @fearsomesnow with pleasure

  • @fendergibs :D

  • Neil Peart was considered an excellent lyricist by all Rush fans, if you don't like Rush to begin with you would probably put him down.I don't consider VT to be produced badly, it sounds great to me and I've been into Rush since 1976.

  • considered the worst produced & sounding recording of modern times, compressed, thin & loud. even alex wanted to do it over. unlistenable on any revealing stereo system.

  • @fendergibs DISLIKE BUTTON

  • @MHSmusic97 disike the producer & rush for allowing such a crap production

  • @fendergibs i suppose you're right, but even so i still love this recored

  • @MHSmusic97 alex hates the sound, horrible production quality. loud & compressed to a flat lifeless sound. never bought it, never will . get S&A live on blu-ray for good sound, time machine not as good as they for some unknown reason theycmixed neil low in the final edit & his drums sound flat & distant.

  • @fendergibs yeah, i did kinda notice that on time machine, but i dont mind to much, he's still one of the best

  • 30,000th viewer o.o

    Cookeh for me lol.

    *eats

  • yeah somewhere along the way it became cool to put down Neils lyrics but fuck back in the day he was regarded as the BEST lyricist around.

  • @clubhouseme he was never considered a good lyricist, drummer yes.

  • nobody gives a fuck if you're 14

  • @SktRat4life Lol what I was thinking XD

  • Love the solo. So perfect for this sound, and beautifully tailored to the feel of the song. Kudos Mr. Lifeson.

  • i fucking love this song

  • EVERYONE!!!!! Stop downloading these songs and go out and buy vapor trails and snakes and arrows so they can go gold!!!!

  • I am 140 and in my 143th life .......I don't care how old you are!

  • @Scorpsrule2011 BU2B and Caravan. Good stuff. I like BU2B more, personally.

  • @Scorpsrule2011 Hell yeah. Their new album is gonna kick some serious ass. Teach these people what REAL music is! And yes...Rainbow Dash is awesome too. =D

  • @Scorpsrule2011 You clearly and have listened to their earlier stuff =D. It's great stuff either way though. Rush is king. Good listening.

  • I won't even comment on this Blender article of ill repute. It's immediately obvious that whoever wrote the article is the very essence of an ignorant cretin. I, for one, have the intellect to appreciate good music when I hear it, and I'll be blasting Rush to my kids in five years.

  • some dumbass doesnt know what music is.

  • @bleachtoast1 I think it was some nigger in my opinion

  • i'm only 13 and i can't stand when the people at school dis the fuck out of rock! all of my friends at school appreciate rock n roll music, but other people have different taste although i don't see how u can dislike this. Hell i listen to Pink Floyd Steely Dan RUSH! led zepplin and all the good shit NEIL PEART ROCKS!

  • @Thepinkfloydmaster You love whatever band you want that's what make's you who you are.you may only be 13 but you have impeccable taste in music so screw them .

  • It doesn't matter what age you are, RUSH's music transcends age, social class, and all other facets of baser humanity with their music and messages.

  • Rush gives us the love we cant find..

  • My whole childhood I listened to Rush, they are just the meaning of the word AMAZING, and then my friends told me that Rush was trash... well, I didn't kick their asses because the music they listen is worse than anything you can imagine... so, what could they know about good music?

  • This song takes me to a special place.

  • One of my favorite's from them!

  • when did this album get released?

  • @cpeachee 2002

  • These guys are such geniuses

  • Rush can do no wrong! They excell in excellence! Great drummer! Great bass player of all time! Great guitar player! I saw this band live in concert twice and never tire of their live performances!

  • THis song is really something, pure awesomness... but I prefer the live version of R30, which I cannot find on Youtube =(

  • This is the last great Rush album. They should disbanded after that tour, instead of release such disasters as Snakes & Arrows.

  • @theocruz02 what about clockwork angles, with bu2b, that song is awesome

  • @theocruz02

IMO, Rush never released a bad album...some are better than others but they never made a "disaster". Also, each album has a different mood, and Snakes and Arrows is pretty melancholic overall. That's why the hard rockers think Rush "jumped the shark" in the synth period. Their music became less intense and more emotional.

  • @FeelingFreshSon this is consider one of the worst produced and recorded records of modern times. even alex hates it, flat, compressed and loud sound w/o dynmaics or air. unlistenable on any decent system

  • @fendergibs

"even alex hates it" because everyone knows that Alex has the lowest standards of the three

  • @FeelingFreshSon they all have bad taste personally, they just happen tp be good players.

  • Amazing

  • This is da shit right here

  • this is one of my favourites ever <3 it reminds me of the times me and my dad were driving in the car, blaring this song :D thanks to my dad for showing me one of the best bands ever since i was baby :) <3

  • Im 14, and Im saying this now:

    Rush is amazing, hands down.

The dislike was probably someone accidentally pressing it instead of the like button.

  • @iRideIndependent Stay the course young one, pay no heed to the yay or nay you glimpse , answer only to your heart and loves.

  • @iggyover I dont really understand what you just said, but I believe its something along the likes of "Dont care what other people think. Just keep on keepin on."

  • @iRideIndependent im 1043 years old. no one gives a shit about ur age thumbs up whore.

  • Comment removed

  • @iRideIndependent no, i really dont care. im just tired of seeing people saying their age to feel good with themselves. seriously shove your ego inside.

  • @That70sShowRocker73 If you really didnt care, you wouldnt have said anything. Therefore, you do care, and your point is proven invalid.

  • @iRideIndependent By "dont care" I mean I dont care about your age. Obviously, I do care about you saying it to get thumbs up and for your ego. so my point is valid, thank you. Instead of trying to be smart, just try to lower your ego, poser.

  • @That70sShowRocker73 I wasnt doing it to get thumbs up, dude. I could care less about thumbs up and top comments. I was saying it to show that Rush still goes on to the newer generations. I even have my 7 year old brother listening to them. This has nothing to do with my ego.

However, it shows how ignorant and close-minded you are to not have thought about what I mentioned above as a possibility.

And no, your point is still invalid, due to the fact that your statement was entirely accusation.

  • @iRideIndependent You know what? I'm tired of this argument. I apologize for coming with accusations. If you did it for that cause, you have my apologies and I wish you well, peace.

  • @That70sShowRocker73 Thank you, sir. Apology accepted, as I, too, am sorry for fueling this flame.

  • My fav by them. Period.

  • I'm 14 years old and a rap fan, but I Rush rocks and fuck "Blender" magazine for saying Neil Peart is the second baddest lyricist!

  • @YannickzTV Yeah, that Blender list is complete bullshit. Must of been made by the critics who despised them in the 70s.

  • @YannickzTV Asscocks only appreciate lyrics about sex and being a douche. Their small brains can't ascend to the same plane as the one we exist on. Let the peons wallow in their filth. We're better, and we know it.

  • @ZakkLamm You mean Blender? I thought you we're talking to me... lol

  • @YannickzTV Whoa, whoa, of course I meant the magazine.

  • @YannickzTV only a rap fan would confuse the word "worst" with "baddest"

  • @ak47draguno Big deal! If you got what I meant to say, then where's the problem? I don't give a fuck about the rest...

  • @ak47dragunov Now now...play nice lol

  • @YannickzTV blender can go (CENSORED)(CENSORED)(CENSORED) a blender

  • @YannickzTV

    agreed

  • @YannickzTV Knowing Blender magazine, they probably mean that his lyrics are 'bad' as they are 'sick'. These are good things in today's slang. No one could EVER say that Neil's lyrics were mediocre, except perhaps those who cannot comprehend the deeper meanings, and all those big words.

  • One person overdosed on heroin to this music

  • is she safe...is she allright?

  • a rock n roll anthem. I 'd love them to start come concerts with this one-give one little victory a break

  • my favorite song by them post 1982

  • sou do brasil, a banda que eu mais gosto muito boa rushhhhh

  • 1 person has different taste in music and im okay with that

  • awesome, veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy nice!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Rush!whoooooooooooooooooooo

  • Franki...

  • That is a monster guitar riff.

  • Anyone notice how the beginning riff is kind of like that one part in Caravan?

  • @jerrythepotato1919 cool story bro

  • @D1M3NS10N11 No problem. I got a custom remix of 'Ghost Rider' that I'm mastering on the 10th. It isn't nearly comparable to the 'Earthshine [Remix]' and 'One Little Victory [Remix]' that Richard Chycki did for the 'Vapor Trails [Remaster]' that will come out later this year or early next. 'Ghost Rider' I'll be waiting to compare my remix against his but I know I'll lose. (Hah!)

  • @D1M3NS10N11 Exactly. Recorded to loud causing digital distortion, not paying much attention to the sonics while recording and then mastering to hot and over compressing it causing major clipping and even more digital distortion. Check out the remix that Richard Chycki did up on my channel (As well as for 'One Little Victory'.) He's also finishing the rest of the remixes for 'Vapor Trails'. Smart guy, glad he's been working with Rush since '05 (R30) and mixing such high quality mixes since.

  • Shame that this song it's not performed at their concerts =(

  • @marcones21 R30. Get the deluxe edition, two CD set in there. Much superior audio quality on the CD's. Check out the remix, its uploaded on my channel.

  • 68 people's minds are not for rent and have mean mean pride.

  • They should give you a raise just for letting us know that.

  • Stupid polar bears. They should watch out for what they eat.

  • @D1M3NS10N11 -- thanks for the explanation! I certainly know that redlining the inputs can ruin a recording. That's a real shame. I can't for the life of me figured out why that even happened! I will listen out for these faults (and weep, until there is a remaster!)

  • I am so mad at the engineer for this epic failure recording....so glad they got Nick on the next album.

  • @spaden2112 I was just glad they got back in the studio..... but I sooooo hear u... It's still Rush......& this song...... makes us type....lol

  • @spaden2112 That means your mad at Paul Northfield. And hmmph, Nick doesn't really do that stuff. Anymore Rush has Richard Chycki do their mixing work. And if you would like to hear the remix of this song Richard Chycki did for the Retrospective III album check out my channel, I have it up in HD. I also have the remix of One Little Victory that was done for Retrospective III up.

  • stretching out your hand.....full of starlit diamonds best line of the song

  • @iloveamerica11 Hear it on my channel remixed properly. If you think you heard this song you haven't hear it until you hear the remix. Same goes for 'One Little Victory'.

  • This song emits a dark veil of mystery .... with drive, that is Rush.

  • This song brings tears to my eyes. It reminds me of an unrequited love.

  • What a fucking beautiful song. What else is there to say? Neil hit it perfectly with the lyrics, and the song is perfectly composed, uplifting with a real driving force. This and Secret Touch are my favorite tracks from this amazing album.

  • My favourite studio song...and especially Alex`s solo..spine chilling

  • hahaha nice username

  • Great album, heavy song ,nice lyrics on this one. Love it like all the rest. About average for them! Nothing out of the ordinary for the boys.

  • One of the mainstays of the rock album format - RUSH! Always reinventing themselves and covering new ground. One of the many natural themes incorporated into their sound. Thank you Rush for providing us with so much amazing material throughout my lifetime!

  • Truely an underated album by THE BEST BAND EVER who picked up a musical instrument, not that i'm having a go at the ones who mime and dance around pretending to be musician's, oh thats right... I AM!!! keep on rocking guy's

  • This album rocks live. Awful mix job on the entire CD. Why did the lads let this mix go through. Maybe another FU to the record companys, saying we do this better live than your machines silly meatheads.

  • @dinglenutzz

alex left geddy to do the entire mix job on his own

  • @dinglenutzz I actually love the mix of this album idk why, but I could see why some people wouldn't like it.

  • @shastamcnasta666

    agreed, i like it too

  • Thanks.

  • thanks for uploading i love this song>_<

  • my best friend is obbsesed with rush korn and disturbed. lol i think i like it to xDDD

  • It would be nice if Rush remixed this entire CD and re-released it. Even so, I still love it!

  • @TheRushBravado Good news, I read on multiple sites that they finally will! I just hope it doesn't fall through like their previous remastering plans have.

  • @TheRushBravado May I ask, what the problem with this mix is? An honest question. I love the album and really hadn't noticed any production issues with it. Thanks.

  • Best Studio lead guitar ever.........would bring me out of a coma..easily

  • I will never tire of this song

  • Great track from one of the great rock records ever
