Because I set my display to 1080, thus the hd pvr automatically records in 1080, but then when record it in mp4 format, it becomes unusable everytime I try to put it in like sony vegas or something like that, so i'm forced to convert it to wmv first.
Oh yeah I use 1080i myself, but for some reason, at whatever bitrate I choose it to encode or at whatever resolution, I'm still unable to place my raw .mp4 files in sony vegas, I always have to convert it first, but when I do that, I lose quality.

If you use a 1080p TV, PVR can't capture it. Only 720p and 1080i for HD. My XBOX is on 720p because of my TV.
