I have this problem to now and then. Applying some slight pression on the screen fixes it. Sometimes it doens't matter how much I press. Really annoying!
I don't think this problem has anything to do with GPU, bios or whatsoever.
I managed to find a fix for the problem from my laptop !!!
First the problem is caused by a wrong design of the plastic border from inside cover (the plastic border around the display). I would blame it on the metal coating (found inside) that I suspect somehow it does a short circuit when is pressed against the display components.
To test that you had the same problem like I did you can try applying some pressure (with your fingers) on the bottom of you display (on the bottom plastic cover) near the visible vertical bar. This will temporary fix your problem and make the bars disappear.
To fix the problem permanently, remove the plastic border. You can start by gently pulling it from the sides of the display, pull the top part and the bottom part at the end. It should be fairly easy to take off.
While the plastic border is off, youll notice that the display has not problems. The great part is that I fixed the problem only by removing the plastic border and putting it back again. Somehow when I removed the plastic border I must have bend it a little and the short circuit is not happening any more. You can try covering the inside metal border with a isolating material or removing it before putting back the plastic cover.
well i swear i read about this problem it was was supposably fixed by the A12 bios revision becuase the GPu heated up realli badly and then the gpu would malfuntion 2month long time LOL form the comment
No, never got around to it. I sent it to Dell at one point but they couldn't replicate it so they never fixed it, now it is constant and warranty has expired. I am thinking it is the flex cable, will take the screen apart at some point to check.
