Tim Riley can't carry a tune in a bucket... because he knocks the bottom out of the bucket. You can carry a tune in a bucket with no bottom. He is my favorite male singer of all time.
Great Job Gold City!! I read some of the comments and it's really simple. People who use "vocal fry" are those people who couldn't accept the fact that they couldn't sing at the required range. Vocal fry is not singing.....period.
everyone needs to realize this is a video too. you cant actually tell me that you think youre going to have perfect sound quality from a video of a video. Tim is still just about the best out there, hands down.
two weeks ago when i heard Tim sing this and i cast my bread upon the water i thought he was gonna blow the speakers!! sing it Tim Riley!!! actually i think when he did this song he dropped even lower when he said long. he is AMAZING!!!!
"If I can't hit it, I don't sing it" - Tim Riley. It seems to me you both understand that Tim doesn't use vocal fry; I just thought ya'll would like to hear how he puts it. You should also understand that Tim doesn't look down on vocal fry, it's just not how he sings. He completely understands that vocal fry is just another technique for bass singing and he embraces it, he just doesn't use it.
@ddmauld I'm a little skeptical of him not looking down on it. I met Tim last month after a concert and he used that same "If I can't hit it, I don't sing it" line, but when I asked him about vocal fry, he told me he didn't know what I meant by that. I then did vocal fry and he said, "Oh no, I can't stand that." He said he was taught by Leroy Abernathy how to get proper tone, and he said that his voice started getting much lower than average when he was a teenager.
Are you kidding me. Tim. At the end. Effortless. Whatever..... That's just wrong. What i would give just to be able to hit an E1 on a regular basis much less with that much fortitude. He is Man. In every shape way and form.
@biglhot75 Lol I know...I got some new headphones with good bass response and I listened to it. It sounds fried at first (because of the other voices singing at the same time he was, also, Tim has a very clear voice) but if you listen to the tail end of it there is noticeable tone present. It sounds to me like he was kinda pushing his range (like he was doing more mixed voice than full)....but yeah I know it wasn't vocal fry. Sorry about any misunderstanding.

must be nice to have the ability to "play" with Ab1's.....CRAZY!!!
I remember meeting Tim in nashville once and then talking to him once on the phone when I called their office...mega bass. And he does NOT use vocal fry to artificially produce those tones:)
@AmosBracewellMusic I know...when he yells his voice sounds like a normal person's, but when he's just talking...If he were singing the notes he speaks he'd be hitting notes between A1 and F2 on the piano!
I've only heard Tim use vocal fry one time. At the 2009 NQC he fried an E1 with Eric Bennett during "Everyday". But he's hit F1s in full voice pretty easily, so I'm sure he could get down to E1 or Eb1 in full voice if he really tried. Hope I get to meet him someday; he's my favorite bass!
@GamingDrummer89 have you heard the song that just got posted called "somebody sing me a gospel song"....AMAZING...Tim just plays with those low notes....and i just SMILE:D
@GamingDrummer89 Everyone I take it back...Tim's E1 just sounded fried at first but when I listened to it on better speakers I could hear that the note had too much tone in it to be vocal fry.
