  • I would like to see what would happen to arrogant french and american tourists if they tried to get the better of them!

  • oh my gosh really really impressive!!!

  • Awsome!!!!!!!

  • 20 snare drum?!/.\

  • VERY GOOD

  • What has Monty Python got to do with anything?

  • @sylviekell The theme for Monty Python was "The Liberty Bell March" by youknowwho

  • @lauwai4life Written by Sousa, I get it. And the inspiration for their comedy was Ernie Kovaks.

  • @sylviekell I'm old enough to have actually watched Kovaks when his show was on TV. He WAS brilliant and whether his humour directly influenced Monty Python or not, he was one of the pioneers of the form.

  • the finest military band in the world

  • @01MarchHare Up until probably 70s, you needed to be 6' tall for the Guards regiments.

  • second march is called "Action Front"

  • Okay, the first march is called " Wellington March" but who can tell me what's the title of the second march?

  • Greetings. May I say a big thankyou to your comments about the drum solo's called "Cosgrove".I named them after the instructor on our promotion coarse at Lymstone. He was a very strict,no messing guy,Sargent Cosgrove. Marlene and I watched the bands the day before this was videoed, and knowing the band steps of from Wellington Barracks we waited about half way down the road.

As the band got near, the best Corps of Drums ever, played Cosgrove + me in shot as they marched passed. Pete Law

  • them who voted dislike must be part of MAC who were banned earlier!

  • what is the name of the first march?

  • Geweldig optreden. wel 100x afgedraaid.

Wat is de titel van deze mars.

  • @hymscanhuub dacht wellington march

  • @Brummelnunspeet hoe heet de 2e mars

  • @glennet001 klar zum gefecht blankenburg

  • they say that cream floats to the top? senior service top band top service all we need is the field gunners then we are home and dry god bless us all.

  • The band represent the Commandos, of which women are not allowed in, just find a little strange the Band allows women, as the band represent the RM commandos.

  • @dempsey088 incorrect. the bands of her majesty's royal marines are the public face of the royal navy. they represent the senior service as a whole whether this be th RN,RM QARNS RN RMR etc.... so it isnt 'strange' to find women in the Band service at all.

The Royal Navy is an equal opportunities employer with the exception of RMC and RN Divers/Submariners.

  • The clip is absolutely the very best. The Royal Marines look and sound Magnificent. English military bands are the standard by which all others are measured against.

  • i want their hat....

  • I love to see the cymbal players "toasting" their cymbals (top of one not quite touching the bottom of the other) during the trio of Action Front. I wonder if they do arm curls in the gym to strengthen the forearms for that. Super video. Thank you: Wellington and Action Front are among my favorites and to see this huge RM Band playing both on Birdcage Walk (title of another fabulous march) is a rare treat for this longtime Royal Marine band fan.

  • Great band! But oh, that bandshell music and arrangement... What Sousa could have done for those guys!

  • @MrJPONZ And what Kenneth Alford could have done for Souza

  • @lauwai4life Did Alford earn the name "The March King?"

  • @sylviekell I understand people refer to Souza that way in the US, but I don't think you'd hear him described as March KIng in Britain or Germany or France. No more than you'd hear Lawrence Welk described as the Polka King in Poland. These countries have much longer and much greater traditions of military music than the U.S. You even stole Gary Owen from the British. In the U.S., every band keeps playing the same 6-piece repertoire of Souza marches over and over again ad nauseam.

  • @lauwai4life The following is from the history of the United States Marine band:

"A British band journalist remarked that since Johann Strauss, Jr., was called the "Waltz King" that American bandmaster Sousa should be called the "March King." With this, Sousa’s regal title was coined and has remained ever since."

  • @sylviekell LOL, Because a magazine reporter said so!? That's a pretty flimsy justification, but if it satisfies America's need for hyperbole, then by all means call Souza what you want. Just don't ask the rest of the world to do it.

  • @lauwai4life A British magazine editor yet.

  • @lauwai4life And by the way, Lawrnce Welk is not even called the Polka King in the U.S., so I don't know where you got that idea from. He himself referred to his music as "champange music."

And Garry Owen is Irish, not British. My ancestry is Irish, so don't fight with me on that one.

  • @sylviekell Ireland was British at the time you stole the music.

  • @lauwai4life If you hate Sousa marches so much, then don't come here or listen to American music. You stole "Officer of the Day" from us, that was written by Robert Hall who was from Maine, in New England. How about the British bands playing "Washington Grays," which was written for an Army National Guard unit in the Bronx, New York.

  • @sylviekell And don't forget Monte Python...

  • @sylviekell Yes, British bands will play American music. I refer you to one of the Guard's bands playing the Star Spangled Banner outside Buckingham Palace on the morning of September 12th. 2001.

  • @lauwai4life Also watch "British Army Bands in London" where they play the American "Battle Hymn of the Republic." And do a magnificant job of it to! It was also played at Winston Churchill's funeral, as it was one of his favorite hymns.

  • @bluebelly07 Thanks for letting me know, but I have the album for the '83 plus one other Musical Pageant, it's sad their like will never be seen again-the fanfares were worth the entry price. Also have the album to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the Marines back in the 60s. Going to digitize and upload it one of these days. Was at the Royal Tournament in '68, which was a Marine year. Sir Vivian Dunn was Director of Music..massed Royal Marine Bands, string orchestra, the works.

  • Great sound and video. Great Band....

  • Yeah ok the fags that laugh in the face of enemy gunfire and will snap you in two

  • Best in the world, by a long shot

  • Wonderful band spoiled by the midgets like the one playing the cymbals.

  • Drum Solo at 3:08 is 'Cosgroves'

  • @gy3805jv5 I would love to know how many differnt rudiments are in "cosgroves" and what they are. It's one of the best arrangements I've ever heard. It's performed flawleessly. I was a 02m20 percussionist in U. S. Army Bands and while marching band are great here there's none comparable to HM Royal Marines and British Bands as a whole. If our bands were combined as a massed band it would be disastrous. The Brit's are unmatched here or anywhwere. Sterling performance!

  • @katemihunt

hey i have the sheet music for cosgroves. if u would like me to email to you please leave a comment on my wall thanks. also if u could leave an email adress haha :D

  • @liverpoolparkour08

Hello, I'm a snaredrum player from Holland. Could you please send me the sheetmusic for the drummersmarch Cosgroves, to my emailadress.

On behalve of myself thank you, jgalemmers@zonnet.nl

  • Women shouldn't been in any Military Bands, they spoil the whole look, they should be at home looking after our babies!

  • I have been watching these parades too often...my walk is starting to turn more into a march....

  • I did this gig many years ago..great drum solos at 3:08..

    Thanks

    Andy, ex-Royal Marines Drummer

  • Get those Woman out that Band now,That looks Fucking Rediculous.

  • what year did they admit women in the band? Are there any all male military bands in the world left?

  • this is a great film of the rm band, as an ex army drummer, you caught the moment perfectly. thank u.

  • whos the senior drum major?

  • @dann6022 the guy at the front giving the orders

  • @dann6022

    WO1(BAND) James'Wiggy' Whitwham RM

    Corps Drum Major RM

  • Shit camera work

  • best military band on the earth, without a doubt!

  • I Am A Drummer In The Sea Cadets.

Indeed The Solo Is Called Cosgrove :D

  • Simply the best there is and the best there ever was !

  • this is nice film the real rm on parade

  • cool !!!

  • The best military band on this planet!!

  • @luxiguy Naa the guards are better.....;0) Actually I think they are both good in there own right.

  • The Guards ??? find something on here that matches the sound and Quality of the Royal Marines Band mate , it aint gonna happen im afraid , best band in the world bar none

  • Stirring stuff. Marvellous

  • I have read that the drum patterns the RM Corps of Drums use on the march are called simply 'marching solos' (I think) The one played here is called "Cosgrove".I also have the CD from this event. Well worth the cash.

  • This is one of the best marching parade videos on youtube! I really want to know the drum solo in the middle of the video, it is truly amazing, anyone have an idea of the name of type of drum solo they peform?

    Thanks!

  • Not keen on either Marches, I always like to hear the Marines play Joe Ricketts. dum link fantastic

  • What a great sound - thanks for posting this video - second march is Klar zum Gefecht (Action Front) by Blankenburg

  • They do have a corps of drums who used to under go the 32 week commando course however this has now changed. They still have a corps of drums but they are no longer commandos

  • The fisrt march is Wellington

  • What marches are they playing?

  • wellington by w. zhele and action front...zhele,s marches were all published in england but he was a member of the imperial german marines.

  • why do the drummers at the beginning hit the front of their helmets after they hit the drums?

  • @sprinklefriend

They're not hitting their helmets, it's called stick drill and is just there to add more uniformity to the drummers at the front.

They bring the drum sticks up to their upper lip, parallel to the ground

  • Absolutely brilliant - thanks for posting this.

I too went in and watched it on one night & then like you followed them marching to Horseguards on the next (& final) night, after which they returned to barracks via the Mall - that's the footage to get next time!

  • Does anyone know if it as a RM bugler or a Musician who plays the tenor drum in the massed bands?

  • It is a musician. i belive it is a percussionist who plays it.

  • Can someone tell me why the snare drummers in this great band raise their sticks to their mouth areas, sometimes one at a time, sometimes both simultaneously? Does it have any historical significance or is it simply a matter of style?

  • Yes what tiptonch is right it is a style now. Originaly it was used on a battlefeild and when closing the gates at towns. The drums used to use stick drill in order to give orders when the drums or bugles could not be heared. It has remained a tradition like the drag ropes and other parts of the uniform.

  • that is wrong

i know for a fact, they are only medics, or stretcher bearers not frontline troops

all of the british military bands are open to both sexes to join

  • Best band in the world by far, there is nothing wrong with having females in their ranks , they are obviously superb musicians and buglers as are the males in the band service

  • FANTASTIC

  • Comment removed

  • Manufacturer of goose bumps BUT no matter how hard i try i cannot get my mind around nor accept that the RM Bands admit the female gender into their ranks. a 5 foot nothing lady amongst tall ranks does not fit

  • tit, video is amazing though

  • @nonthaburial--Evidently she meets the same qualifications as her male counterparts or she wouldn't be in uniform marching with the band. I really don't think anyone in a position of authority is going to lose much sleep over the non issue you have raised.

  • Congratulations for this film ! It's very dificult to do that in the sreets !!

  • most amazing people around

hopefully im gonna be a corps drummer for the rm band in a few years :D

  • is there any female drummers?

  • Indeed there are, in fact the 3rd drummer from the camera in the front rank is female

  • My favourite band of all time, thanks or posting and filming this.

    Warmest Regards,

    JH

    Canada

  • 3:14 sick drum solo

  • A magnificent sound as always with the Royal Marines. It sends the shivers down the spine watching this spectacle walking toward you.

Well captured, I will be looking out for more video footage from you.

    Welldone.

    Ambaccs

  • you did really well filming this and not walking straight into a lampost. reminds me of myself following the R.M bands along birdcage walk to do beating retreat back in 1984. there was a guy walking with the bands with an old portable reel to reel cassette player with a home made microphone sticking out the side..times have certainly changed. at that time i remember they played" trafalgar".. by zhele followed by"chimes of liberty"..yes as things change they also stay the same....marty

  • well done for taking the vid, its all about the music :)

  • on the march... this is top class

  • I enjoyed watching this video - especially because of "Action Front." Royal Marine bands play this march differently (better) than other bands - accents / percussion / dynamics. Does anyone know if there is a good recording of this march by a RM band played at this pace? The only real good recording I have is on an old LP by the Plymouth band (Capt. Lang) - made 40 years ago. I hope the bands will record it again - with the accents and Corps of Drums - great sound! Thanks for posting it.

  • Don't know of any,but if you go to Royal Marines Band Service(perhaps you have already tried this) on the net they may well have a cd with this march on it. Apparently this was recorded on one of the new mobile phones, fantastic quality.

  • This is a great recording of the best Marines band in the world.Fantastic full sound from all parts of the band, good solid beat and pace,no fancy footwork, moonwalking(Michael Jackson style)like some bands i've seen but won't mention and no poncy Drum Majors conducting the band with their staffs.Just a brilliant performance as we can always be sure of from the British military.

  • Hi Jonny4romania its Retrofan1 here I have the music for this years Beating retreat on CD which Differs from your clip which starts with Wellington on the Cd its The Purple Pageant followed by the Drum solo then Action Front which is being played now.

Any Chance of any more clips as this is fantastic My Best Friend in work would love this

    all the Marching best

    Retrofan1

  • Hi Retrofan1, yes your rite I also have the cd I was at the Beating retreat itself the night before This video, this was them on there way to the Beating Retreat.they have recorded the cd in studio so they have just recorded a few pieces of music on cd as tho its wot they wud have played marching to the actual retreat. The beginin of the actual show starts with Drummers call then bugle calls Fall in of the parade then Sarie Marais and ends with a life on the ocean wave.

  • @retrofan1 Simply breath taking. Loved seeing how camera focused on drummers. Great to see that kettle drummers still wear the lepordskins.

    Great video

  • @retrofan1 Best military band on the planet!

  • Thanks for uploading! Great quality.
