  • @ClarinetSebas I have it if you would like it O:

  • Ok, you dont understand ANYTHING from music!

  • One, two, three, GO 3:49

  • Great....

  • I attended this piece's world premiere on April 15. Really stunning!! love love it!~~~~

  • i really wish to this project a very good luck

  • amazing!!!

  • Wow, He's great... I think they should do some Ocarina of time songs... :D That's just me... :]

  • so there is a prize in this, i mean is this a contest, or just a learning institution?

  • Whoa. Thats cool at 3:57

  • hahahah XD "bam badadadada bam badadadada WHATEVER!!" rofl, i love this guy. he rules. lol

  • can anybody tell me what's the name of this piece?

  • This piece is called "Eroica." It was written by Tan Dun during the olympic games.

  • ppl stop spamming --'

    get a life

    enjoy music =D

  • So glad to see white men don't mind the inclusion of Asian men in the field of classical music, otherwise there really isn't anywhere else they can be visible.

  • what do u mean men? there really isn't anywhere else they can be visible? what des it means?

    ur sound quite racialism.

  • yifuhood

its truly sad people like u still exist.

the people who thinks they are good, but want nothing but status quo.

don't support racism yifuhood or kiss up to people who support it.

  • 继续努力,长江后浪推前浪!

  • mnmn

  • what is the name of that rhythm for 2nd movement?

  • Wondrous. Tan has a new admirer.

  • this dude really loves music

  • only two words good enough to accept this gift

    thank you!

  • 真好!!!中国人的骄傲啊!

  • 支持!

  • One amazing guy ^_^

  • i think what was funny at the end is that when tan dun said "he loves harp", he may have meant the lady playing the harp, so he says "no, i mean the instrument"

  • And "I don't want this be.. taped on the youtube." :D

  • good aquistics in St. Lukes

  • music is life, life is music...what a simply yet powerful statement

what was so funny at the end anyway, I didn't catch it. something about liking harps?

  • Yes, nor do I. What was the joke? Anyway, great compilation from the great Tan Dun.

  • No, when he said "I love Harp", there was probably somebody named Harp or somebody who's name was like how Dun pronounced it. That's why he added the "no no i mean the instrument". However, you can keep you weird thinking if you like. . . .

  • Oh no, you must have misconstrued my insight. I was truly puzzled with the joke or what it was intended to mean. I appreciate your input and I thank you for your answer and time. Have a nice one!

  • It's common in an orchestra to address the people by their instruments. You'd call the trumpet player "the trumpet," not "the trumpet player." So when he said that he loved the harp, he quickly clarified that it was the instrument because he didn't want to make it look like he was flirting with the woman who played harp.

  • maybe harping or nagging like don't harp on me!

  • Inspiring!

  • I love u tan dun.. SUPERB conductor...super talented...

  • why no saxophones???

  • "I don't want this to be taped on YouTube!" :-D

Simply genius, both music and idea.

  • olympic music?

  • Tan Dun will perform his new work, The Map, for the first time at London's Barbican on Sat 21st March for the opening a new exciting festival, unique in its genre: "Beyond The Wall - New Music From China"

  • Tan Dun, you are awesome!!

  • Tan Dun is a genius.

  • Where's the youtube symphonic band? Man, saxophones and euphoniums always get left out. Haha....

  • not smyphonic.

  • I love this guy.

  • Starting from 3:50. Awesome sound.

  • The Competition is not open to residents of Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Myanmar/Burma, Syria, Zimbabwe and any other U.S. sanctioned country.

    Patético

  • What is the clear thing behind each of the musician ? The amplifier?

  • The clear plastic things are sound shields to protect the musicians' eardrums AFAIK. Brass and percussion can really dish out the dB.

  • not so much percussion. Except for marching snares. We can't be very loud except for marching instruments.

    and rim shots.

  • if you watch the timpani masterclass, the timpanist mentions that at one part they are supposed to play as loud as possible or something to that effect.

  • I've spent many rehearsals with my ears ringing because of the timpani... They can certainly crank it out.

  • Anyone knows the name of the viola(?) player at 3:55?

    She's so cute!

  • why does this peice sound so fimiliar?

  • parts of it was olympic music u might remember it from there

  • I really wish I could have taken part in this but as I have poor eyesight I find it very difficult to play piano pieces and I have to memorize them, and I play no other orchestral instrument.

  • haha, im glad that the orchestra laughed at Tan Dun, because it seemed like they were fustrated with him at first!

  • The music is really amazing. I love the music from London Symphony Orchestra. Keep Playing!!

    :)

  • LOL, harp can be the fish too.

Very pretty symphonic, fiery. Me like. ^^

  • Tan Dun is talent who teach nice, clean ,clear music , but I wonder how many viewers like you and me can acconplish that lesson ?

  • Looks really amazing and sounds wonderful.

...but, can someone explain the part at the very end where he says he loves the harp? Didn't exactly catch the joke.

  • Sounded like he might have been implying he loves the person playing the harp, not instrument. Just a nothing joke, but cute.

  • I didn't really get that either but I think the joke was.......He said he loved the harp and the harp player has a woman, but he meant the instrument!!

  • this man is very talented.

  • The Competition is not open to residents of Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Myanmar/Burma, Syria, Zimbabwe and any other U.S. sanctioned country.

  • Tough luck Tan, it is on youtube!

  • can anyone tell me where i can find the video2 audition music from?

  • What an amazing person you are sir, what passion, I love to see you lead your orchestra, and I feel so sad that I cannot read music cause I am a composer, guitariste, singer myself but I do everything by heart, soul, ear and feelings so I never felt the need to know how to read sheets of music, but what a shame now, I would of love to be together with you in your youtube orchestra...thank you for doing this by the way, what a nice gesture...you rock mister Tan Dun...goodluck and much love to you

  • This is such a positive inspiring global project! Brilliant illustration of the composition process, and thank you. Going to be so exciting to see all the instruments coming together in a global orchestra! I'm gonna try and learn the marimba part.

  • The music is so amazing!!

By the way, Tan Dun is so cute:)

  • i wanna join what instrument would be best to transpose for the ukulele? =]

  • song sounds a lot like the Beijing Olympic song that you could always hear playing in the background at the various venues and especially before the medal ceremonies

  • Okay, good, i'm not the only one who thought that...

  • If you watch the video where he explains his inspirations, you'll see that he was inspired during the Olympics. Also, one of his themes is his little nod to the Olympics. So it seems that the message behind the music is, in fact, reaching the audience.

  • wow. I really wanna join this youtube orchestra thing.. i wonder if there is an age limit???

  • You have to be fourteen.

  • Wow, just wow.

It gave me chills listening to it. Never thought an orchastra would make me feel that way.

Maybe I should join my school orchastra and pick up the double/up-right bass.

  • Lovely video, lovely ending.

  • Special!

  • and i thought i was trippin out at 4:00

  • ¨Pizzicato harp¨? It's called bisbligliando, Mr. Dun!

  • My math teacher is called Mr. Dunn. Scary.

  • bisblingando? whoa....haha

  • ¨bisblingando¨? No - learn how to spell it: bisbligliando. Anyway, if you're not familiar with the term, one would really expect from a composer what it is called, instead of ¨pizzicato¨. Harp is generally played pizzicato, not with a bow. :-). The special tremolo technique demonstrated by the harpist is called bisbligliando.

  • ahh ok.

Wow, I just realized I still spelled it wrong and it was in front of me.

  • Isn't it 'bisbigliando'? It's from the Italian 'to whisper' (bisbigliare).

  • He's having so much fun describing the music! :D

It's making me itching to reach for my instrument...

  • proud of you

  • Man, I wonder if this youtube symphony project will turn out well... I mean... this will either be some of the best of the best or the most disorganized musical group ever created.

I don't think they'll be as good as the LSO though.

  • Tan Dun is widely recognized for using non traditional and organic instruments in his compositions.

  • Really amazing. I wish I were a musician. I feel like it is a sixth sense that I am missing that only those who can feel music so passionately can understand.

  • what a good way to put it... this is true in a way defiantly.

  • So go learn an instrument!

  • Learning an instrument isn't the only way to become a musician! Learning an instrument is more a way to perform somebody else's work. Practically anyone can compose though, even if you don't know any theory. Just get some software and wack something together in my opinion!

  • cool
