Your akita must've been raised with the cat from when he was a pup. I just recently got my Akita to tolerate my cat. I rescued him when he was 2 yo and for the longest time he just wanted to eat the cat. He's 5 now and with a lot of work, I've trained him to acknowledge the cat as off limits. He'll let my cat walk in front of him and he won't go after him. He's interested but has accepted that the cat is part of the household and not a prey item. I never have them together unsupervised though.
@bumpers17921 venus was 4 when we fetched george home and she had never lived with a cat before in her life, he was a 6 week old rescue kitten but very confident and i really don't think he was aware of the difference in size. we didn't leave them alone til he was about 8 months old, we recently lost george he was born with a major heart defect and both venus and our puppy miss him alot as do we.

@bumpers17921 Really depends on the dog...we got our Akita and cat at the exact same time.
They hated each other.

That is a lovely vid-just shows how lovely and gentle Akitas really are when they are brought up properly. The cat seems to love the play :)
