Is this les paul on the heavy side or is it light? How would you describe the sound of this paul without the electronics if you strummed it acoustically? Would you say that it is very warm sounding, more midrange, or treblier? They all sound a bit different obviously! I'm trying to acheive the same sound you have and I have a custom wound 59 neck and a t-top in the bridge ( high order pickups). I don't think I'm nailing as close as you are!
I just bought a genuine patent sticker t-top, are there any tonal differances between the two? I can't find any sound samples of the t-tops other then here and a flying v video :P
mid position is IN phase, though I can get phase reverse by using a push pull. Jimmy Page mid pos was in phase too and nowadays he has a push pull to get same effect.
man, that's crazy, the mid position sounds almost out of phase. i've been reading the thread on mylespaul and have ordered a gibby pickup to mess with. can't wait!
did T-tops have unbalanced coils? i know gibson started using machines to wind their pickups during the T-Top era, so the coils would be balanced, right?
Hi, Love your tone and playing. I'm new to the Tube and was wondering if you could explain to me what exactly you have for a bridge pickup. I have in my Les Paul a High Order T-Top replica and it sounds good. But I really like the sound of yours.
Also, I know you play through a JCM600 thats modded. What were the mods?
Looked all over the web and there are many variations on wiring. How exactly have you got this one wired?? Can you direct me towards a site with the wiring diagram that you use. So far I've found many different options. Very confused.
@noahwayne You don't have to wire the pickups any different to install the pickups. If you want to get that middle "quack", go to Seymour Duncan's website, and they have a bunch of different wiring diagrams. For a LP, look for the humbucker diagram for 2 humbuckers, 2 volumes, 2 tones, phase switch.
Since a few of those songs were recorded by Page on a Tele and this obviously sounds like the songs it seems like the Page sound would fall more or less under generic. Is it really that important for one to have a T-Top in a Les Paul to get the sound of Page on a Telecaster?
No. What I'm trying to get is getting close to his LIVE sound, what he achieved to do on stage with his Les Paul only. He's know to have used a PAF in the neck and a T-Top in the bridge. That's the important thing, to me.
Dude i loved the video!! you make me so jealous i want that tone! im in love with that tone haha. by far this new tone sounds so much like pages.
you play so awesome man!
it does sound better dude.
this is prolly a dumb question...
but could i get a sound like that if i bought a t-top replica and put it on my epiphone les paul standard? or it wouldnt be the same without having like a gibson 58 les paul? or a les paul all together..?
Well, depends of your guitar. If it's chambered, you won't get that "full" tone of the whole wood, even with good pickups. For this reason, I dislike this kind of instruments. Anyway, it's a matter of tastes and a very important thing is the amp too: with a good amp you get a good tone, simple but it's so.
Anyway, thanks for watching and appreciating, hope this could help in your tone quest. :)
Thanks dude. all this stuff is so over my head, ive been playing for a year, but im not like super smart when it comes to pickups, amps, and how to get a pagey tone. i sorta have one i get on my marshall, but its no where near as good as your tone. i wish i had alot of money and i could i just pay someone to me all the gear i needed. haha if i ever have 1000's to spend, ill just find someone like you to set me up with a guitar with that pagey tone. lol ill never be rich so that wont happen lol
is the speaker in that amp a celestion G12H-30?

i know this question has been asked probably 30 times already, but where in the world did you find a t-top replica?
ptcorrigan 2 years ago
some pickup manufacturers make them (high order for example) or you can make your own using a very common pickup and a magnet!
mistersnaredrum 2 years ago
High order makes some...
Steven Designs Lab or something
I'm gonna order a pair from Lindy Fralin though, its called the unbucker and designed to coil split

since the BB2 in the neck has a higher output, is the t top still hotter due to the alnico 5 or are they similar?
TheFoOl2411 2 years ago
Well, they are not similar (t-top is 7.8k, bb2 is 8.2) but the different alnico makes the difference and they match very good with each other!
JimmyPage86 2 years ago
where do i get that pickup

Awesome tone... I was wondering those T-tops replicas, did you make them yourself from 490r's or boutique ?
Thanks

Yeah, balanced coils. T-tops are the post-PAF pickups, which were unbalanced. The evolution line is clear, as you said ;)
