I watched the game on TV in 1986. If you look at the film, Buckner is at least 15 feet behind the bag, moving to his left to field the ball. Wilson (who was fast as a jack-rabbit) is coming down the line full-speed and probably no more than twice as far from the bag as Buckner was when the ball gets past him. I’ve always thought even if Buckner had fielded the ball cleanly, Mookie still had a decent chance of beating him to the bag, then it’s an infield single and nobody blames Buckner.
Game six wasn't even Buckners fault, the 2 pitchers who gave up the lead to begin with were the real culprits. I'm happy to say that I was at game 6 though.
i think jbowery01 should do a little researc on boston fans before he opens his fat mouth. we gave buckner a standing ovation the game after "the error" and watch the video and listen to the crowd u dumbass
I stand corrected...sort of. Buckner was given an ovation at Fenway except it was in 1990 after being reacquired by the Red Sox. Makes Boston fans look even better since his ovation was 4 years after the 1986 World Series! Boston had already forgiven Buckner and now Buckner has forgiven the Boston media.
Class act my foot....Red Sox fans hounded the guy and his family out of town..Red Sox fans and class are 2 terms that don't belong together...Come to think of it, Boston fans in general and class don't belong together, as good old Bill Russell could tell you after his house was torn apart into when he moved into a white suburb.
Clearly you do not know your Boston history. The game after Buckner made "The Error" at Fenway the fans gave him a standing ovation. Buckner has said numerous times, including his interview right after the ceremonies this year, the fans were not the problem, but rather the media. As for Russell and his house, racial tensions were at an all-time high when he played. You must remember, Russell is a hero and legend in Beantown and Auerbach was the first coach to draft a black player in the NBA.
Bill Russell has come back to Boston for the Red Sox 2004 and 2007 ring ceremonies. (Not to mention several Celtics games in their 2007-08 championship season.) It's safe to say he feels differently about Boston now.
now that he did this a new curse is born

Now do you think Chicago will do the same thing for Steve Bartman if they ever win a series?

Perfect example of how one guy gets the blame for an entire team's collapse. I would call it quintessential, but that would be Steve Bartman.
