I like how the response time and contrast is comparable to old CRTs, but does it still have the same scaling issue as LCDs? As in you're stuck with a native resolution and anything else looks blurry / crap.
Sony first announced this TV at CES 2008, over a year ago. Haven't they managed to make an OLED TV in a bigger size yet ? For the price of this thing, I'd much rather have a decent plasma.
It is new tech and like everything else, when something is new it is expensive... production plants need to be changed, the technology has to mature, and it all takes time and money. But after it matures and the production aspect is perfected it will be mass produced and affordable in the near-distant future. I'm more interested in the tech than its use as a TV. Imagine all the things you have seen in futuristic movies/minority report coming to reality. Amazing # of things is could be applied to
@dave4096 totally agree, whats more its not really 2mm thick cause the bit at the bottom with all the sockets would normally be on the back of a tv. Its way to primative atm :P
I swear to god I thought of this in 1985 when I was in fifth grade...but it was a lot thicker in my mind...and I didn't know how to design it....and the parts weren't available yet.....and...and...and.. But I probably wasn't the first one with the idea.
If you think you've come up with a great idea, chances are someone else is thinking the same thing too.
I wanted a record player you could take in the car that wouldn't skip - then came the CD player. I seem to be behind just slightly. :)

That's incredible, and comparably priced to LCD/plasma when they were new, no? Give it a few years and they'll be affordable.
