@kerrsboy An oil company analyst was once asked if he was worried about people buying fuel efficient cars and he answered no, not really. He was then asked why, would they not reduce the use of oil and his companies profits? He answered that all studies show that if drivers believe they are getting better fuel economy, they drive more, which means on a per annum basis they consume as much fuel as before. Also, I think you mean greedier, guzzeling and it's United States,we earned the capitals.
I like the suggestion of floating a collector just above the leak. It would have a slight space between the leak and collector to avoid the condensation problem and if need be suction could be applied to insure the oil flows up the recovery hose. I also like Kevin Costners collector idea, they should get something going including Jindals barrier islands, need those permits now!
Has BP considered inserting an inflatable bladder down the drilling shaft far enough to be below the sea bed so when inflated it would not rupture the pipe. I would suggest using hydraulic fluid to inflate it as a liquid can not be compressed as air can, it would hold tighter. It would need to be far enough down the tube so that when inflated and oil tried to push it back out there would be enough distance for it to grab tight before going above the sea bed.
when will enough be enough it'S time for US the PEOPLE to send a clear message to WASHINGTON that we will not tolerat this NO MORE! Put a stop to offshore drilling NOW or there will not be a tommorrow for our children! ENOUGH
why dont they insert some kind of metal beam/rod all the way to base of the resorvoir
and fill the rest of the gap space between the original drill hole and the beam/rod with some other material so it is blocked from the resorvoir base itself and not only on the surface of the seabase? maybe im not understanding the circumstance correctly...?
Is the Mexican Gulf ‘Deepwater Horizon’ oil leak designed to sabotage, cripple and bankrupt BP? Is it a take over bid by the US government (CIA-Blackwater XE) protected American oil companies to monopolise the global energy industry chain from exploration to retail distribution? Is reality better than fiction?
how much money we spend for every gallon of gasoline goes to support terrorism and the entire situation of the "BP" oil rig explosion appears curious at the least. private citizens recieve jail time and humdreds of thousands of fine for allowing only galons of contamination...what get out of jail free card does BP have? they apopear to be talking over tea when our food and actual lives are being contaminated indefinitely...
Senator Bill Nelson. As a Florida homeowner I'm concerned that this oil leak with affect our hurricane season, by increasing the temperature of the Gulf of Mexico.
Can you please assemble a panel to study that effect? Will the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico raise the gulf's temperature, nearby increasing the chances for tornadoes and hurricanes, and other storms?
The device that snips the casing and drill pipe off and then stays closed, in an emergency, is believed to be partially engaged but didn't snip all the way. The pipe kinks are leaking. The leak is abrasive and will erode the partially closed failsafe and the kinks. If the leak is not stopped the leak will grow to be incredibly large. This must be stopped before the thing blows wide open and continues to grow. Top kill, bottom kill, nuke. The clock is ticking.
@jjacks81 The Russians have nuked out of control wells, five times, with the first in 1966. All of these wells were land based. I'll send you a link by email that does a great job of explaining the situation and what we can expect. I'll send this to anyone who requests it.
@jjacks81 The nuke would probably contaminate the water but that would depend where they detonated. If they forced the nuke down one of the two diagonal pipes, they are now drilling to intercept the leaking well pipe, then they might get it deep enough to seal the well but not blow much up to the water in the Gulf. They will try the top kill, which might happen today, with a 60-70% chance of success. The bottom kill from the two diagonal wells is next, if necessary.
There is rhythm to the spewing, much like the beatings of a heart. The heart of the earth is beating, and its blood oozes out of a punctured artery...
This is a comment, not a response. " If man doesn't become humbled by this and admit his limitations, then he is doomed. Forget going to the Moon and Mars. We must get our obvious priorities straight. EARTH ! and GOD !
So it's taken a month and this thing still isn't in control. BP said they could handle a much bigger disaster which is obviously BS. How can you run an oil company and not have a plan in place in case when something goes wrong? Which you know for a fact is definitely going to happen at some point. Where are their contingency plans? BP should be banned from working in or around US territorial waters. Sorry BP you suck at what you do.
This will not only kill all the sea life within hundreds of miles, it will change the weather on this planet, because it will change the temperature of the ocean. If it gets in the gulf stream, it will end up in Europe...It is going to cost a LOT more than money...
@vanth77 Kill all the sea life? Europe? Get a clue. None of this oil has ended up anywhere. Not even a single tar ball in Key West can be attributed to this. You better stay indoors and cover your windows with aluminum foil. This crude could become airborne and destroy the earth. Just like the pig flu.
@amules2003 That's so true. BP will find a way to pass the clean-up and lost revenue on to the consumer. The other oil companies will raise their prices because they can claim they were somehow affected. And we will happily pay whatever they want and do nothing about it.
@jaimerangelwashere is that all you care about? money, shit all that oil is screwing up the world we live in, and all ppl like you can worry about is the money, stop living your life off material
seriously how hard is it to plug this thing up? If the people who have the resources really wanted to plug this thing they would have done it already.
@beckyinma Yeah use a fucking nuke were dynamite or C4 is all that is required your a fucking moron. Now instead of oil to worry about its nuclear fallout that we have to worry about.

@XeroVMK 85% of our nation's coral reefs are in the waters off South Florida. Have you ever been out there? We don't need to drill offshore.
