  • it's not often you see a guy that green having the blue's that bad...

  • Did he just say have a couple of beers?

  • @Darkshadow2012xx

Yep. People in the business weren't so paranoid about political correctness back then.

  • If I ever go to a resturant and order wine, I'm going to have to ask for straws.

  • I've always had a certain like for Rowlf as well as Doctor Teeth. Strange thing is that they both play the piano and are voiced by Jim Henson.

  • rowlf's got 99 problems but a bitch aint one

  • How is it that we can't have sophisticated kid's entertainment like this anymore? It's a true shame. This is brilliant stuff.

  • UIt's "A shattered dream for every FALLING star..."

  • She made a monkey out of old King Kong!

    That's Miss Piggy...

  • The Green Album messed this one up horribly.

  • Only Jim Henson could sing a duet with himself so spectacularly. :)

  • @RageTreb How Henson could do it is quite a question.

  • I would so hang out with Rowlf. He's so damn chill.

  • Has anyone noticed that the new Muppet Movie had a song about how happy and perfect life is, and the old Muppet Movie has a song about how troubling women are…?

  • @d00mbot9000 The new movie's mindblowing, but it's definitely a bit different. At their peak, the Muppets were actually really down to earth.

  • ANyone else realize Jim Henson does both of these characters? Amazing..

  • Mr. Roto....!!

  • BERRY?!

  • Omg I love him, fozzy, and animal! And Beaker!

  • still know this movie line for line, God bless Jim Henson

  • So totally naming mu dog rowlf when i get one

  • broken heart... this cheered me up :)

  • KGv

  • Quite possibly the greatest guy moment in motion picture history since the last scene in Casablanca.

  • You know it was probably for the best that they found Rowlf. I mean, the poor guy is paid minimum wage, which, of course, is very low in 1979 Idaho. Why do you think he reads? He cant afford a TV? HMMMMM?

  • A shattered dream for every porn star?

  • @VinylDelusion "for every fallen star"

  • This song would have taken a much more interesting contact if Bert and Ernie had sung it.

  • wait...rowlf drinks beer. WHAT!

  • @stitch1993 My favorite muppet is an alcoholic?

  • Heh the "etching that you keep at your lily pad" Refers to an old pick-up line.

  • Happy Birthday Jim Henson!

  • have a couple of beers?? that something that you cant hear on to days kid shows.

  • that's why I live alone...

  • Too bad the 2nd verse was cut out of the movie though since the producers found it too adult. It's on the soundtrack though.

  • @saxytexasboy77 whats the 2nd verse??

  • is it just me or does seth rogen sound alot like rowlf?

  • I like the end when Rolf has his little *Moment of Philosophy*

  • i want a piano tutorial for this

  • wait... really? beers? how did i miss that?

  • Jim Henson sings a duet with himself with Steve Martin in the background. That's why I love the Muppets.

  • ..drink a couple of beers, take myself for a walk... i love rowlf!

  • The Muppet version of Tom Waits. Love this song :)

  • "2-3-4..." Lmao!

  • I think Kermit needs a beer

  • I can relate to this song right now

  • kermit deserves better. even if miss piggy does love him in a...creepy way.

  • @obmud5510 Ya know Miss Piggy is makin' him do freaky stuff...That's why he's got that green bib around his neck...God I actually hate myself now lol

  • @Jonwood74 I.... I think I understood that. But I'm not entirely sure because I'm fearing it.

  • @QIsForK12 I strongly suggest you don't try to imagine what I was implying. It's deliberately ambiguous. It's meaning is solely dependent on the level of depravity of the reader's imagination. I think your fear reaction is probably the healthiest. lol

  • how do u take ur self 4 a walk?? o_O

  • @pinkbeansprout he's a dog and he has no master, so its a joke

  • @cat2cube oooooooooooooooh i get it now (slowness) -_-

  • Heifetz is a poser compared to Rowlf.

  • this song was my major cheer upper when I was recovering from my first gf dumping me back in 07

  • i used to listen to this on vinyl all the time.

    oh and Steve Martin ftw.

  • thumbs up if rowlf and kermit r the best muppetts

  • rowlf is my favorite muppett

  • @TheTributeMedia -- He was my favorite one too.

  • I would change one thing: "not often you see a guy that green that blue"--but that's me; It's brilliant as it is, I just think that would've been cuter. I love Rowlf, he's the best dog ever!

  • Jim Henson was a genius

  • The two dislikes were from Statler and Waldorf!

  • @brassknight4ever LMFAOOOOOOO BRB DYING OF LAUGHTER

  • @brassknight4ever what about the third one?

  • @Goatmon Hitler

  • @UCKABAH Nah, Hitler was married, he knows how it is.

  • @Goatmon Good point.

  • Did rowlf just say "A shattered dream for every porn star"???

  • @Pwells1 fallen star

  • @lewissmells1990 I like porn star better :)

  • @Pwells1 "for every fallin' star"

  • Rowlf was my favorite.

  • How did Jim sing 3 parts at the end?

  • @JGCooney What three parts?

  • @Nitram2984 There's still vocal harmonies with Kermit and Rofl while Rolf was scatting at the end.

  • Rowlf: "Stay away from women, that's my motto."

    Kermit: "But I can't."

Rowlf: "Neither can I, that's my trouble." My life in a nutshell. ;)

  • Steve Martin!

  • Somehow it doesn't surprise me that Rowlf drinks beer.

  • This is so much better than the crap they put on TV these days.

  • This shit was so much apart of what made me who I am today. Not just puppets, but muppets that know good music and everyone could love.

  • I see it now. Rowlf the Dog was Tom Waits, totally. I see shades of "Better off without a wife" here, as well as his VOICE! It's unmistakable.

  • care to sniff the bottle cap? =D

  • I'm still trying to figure out how Jim Henson sang both parts during the last few seconds of that song...

  • @TheDeejayfresh Well, technically it's three parts... at the end of the song, Rowlf breaks into scat jazz lyrics and the Kermit/Rowlf harmony keeps going. Henson recorded three tracks and layered them.

  • @twitch2ohthephoenix Thanks for informing me.....that completely makes sense.

  • A Skunk was Badgered, the results were Strong!

    ah, subtle pun

  • @impagain What does it mean?

  • @HighPrinceGasket Skunks give off a strong smell when bothered, or 'badgered' :)

  • "Read a few book, have a couple of beers, take myself for a walk, and go to bed." LOVE!

  • Rowlf is a rather - how should I put it - mature character. Henson came close to pushing the envelope through him in this movie. Or maybe Henson did push the envelope using Rowlf and it was cleverly disguised.

  • I'm astonished that Jim did both Kermit and Rowlf. That's talent. We miss you Jim.

  • @tellymad649 really? in this song here he did both of them? there voices so to speak.

  • Get rid of Pepe and bring back Rowlf!

  • @Leatherbubba Rowlf is back too. Why do you hate Pepe?

  • @Angie2343 Something about him and Clifford rubs me the wrong way. Like they were only created to try and appeal to minorites.

  • @Leatherbubba I know.

  • @Angie2343 Rowlf isn't really back too much, and I don't think he ever will be.

  • @VampireKingDuz but it still wouldnt be the same without him

  • @VampireKingDuz too bad he is one of my favorute muppets

  • Oh man...back when we were kids, stuff was GOOD.

  • "You can't fuck with them, you can't fuck without 'em."

  • I love rowlf :)

"I finish work, come home, read a book, have a couple of beers, take myself for a walk and go to bed."

"..the pitter patter of soles, the little feet of tadpoles!"

It's hilarious how Steve Martin is wearing leiderhosen. :)

  • @yaloolah42 Same here.

  • I love rowlf :)

"I finish work, come home, read a book, have a couple of beers, take myself for a walk and go to bed."

"..the pitter patter of soles, the little feet of tadpoles!"

  • me and my bother had this song on a lp or record like 30 years ago or something like that.

  • "I'm no Heifetz, but I get by."

There's a joke kids would never get: Heifetz played the violin.

Also, I'm sure I missed the etchings comment when I first saw this.

  • i was only 5 when this movie came out

  • BEERS LOL

  • Hi Steve Martin!

  • Woah woah WOAH! BEERS?! Rowlf, this is a kids show!

  • Rowlf is Muppet Jesus!

  • Rolf. one of the best muppets

  • mp3iffy works again wooohoooo awesome - google mp3iffy

  • On the soundtrack album, this song had an additional verse that was cut from the film:

Rowlf: Ah, but what could be better

    Than a saucy Irish setter

When puppy love comes on strong?

    Or a collie that's classy,

    A laddie needs a lassie,

A lover and wife gives you a new leash on life...

    Kermit: New "leash" on life?

Rowlf: Oh, yeah...sorry 'bout THAT...two, three, four...

  • @mdumas43073 Thank you, thank you, thank you! I used to have the soundtrack album LONG ago (it was on tape, that's how long ago), and for the life of me I could not remember the words to that extra verse. "New leash on life ..." awesome.

  • Tadpoles dont have feet... :3

  • the writing in this is so clever, especially the never have I seen a guy so green have the blues so bad. GENIUS!

  • Ok I finish work, i go home, read abook, drink a beer and take myself for a walk.

In then past 200 years the muppets are better than elecricity.

    1

  • Amen. Smartest Dog ever...well, other than Paddywhack

  • Amen!

  • I forgot how awesome this movie is!

  • Are you kidding?! This is the best movie EVER! Fail to you O_oi

  • great song

  • If Rowlf were to become Prez, would that make us "One nation under dog"?

  • the breakdown section at 2:20 is just awesome!

  • Yup. This song speaks the truth.

  • This movie has such a melancholy, sad feel to it

  • Why do you say that?

  • you know a lot of the people that had cameos in this movie were guests on the muppet show...steve martin, bob hope, richard pryor, orsen wells...I think

  • @zackman86 Orson Wells never starred on the muppet show. He's one of the only ones that didn't.

  • He was in the movie, though.

  • @MandelbudetReturns of course they're funny. he lives inside every single one of them.

  • Wow, I can't begin to tell you guys how much of a good idea it is to give beer to your dog. :D

  • Rowlf is definitely my favorite character. I can really identify with him, "I finish work, go home, have a couple beers, read a book and take myself for a walk." I'm just like Rowlf and I think Jim Henson had the ability to create characters people could identify with. That's why so many people love the Muppets.

  • *sighs* Thanks for the memories Jim. :'-)

  • Happy Birthday Jimbo! I hope people haven't forgot this man's contribution. Thought there'd be more mention of his birthday out in internet land. Long live the muppets.

  • Happy Birthday, Mr Henson!

    wherever you are...

You left this world a little bit better for having been there.

    ^_^

  • XD I love Steve Martin in this.

  • Sorry for the ignorance, but why Steve Martin?

  • Not in this scene, in a scene previous to this song (while Piggy was still there), he was the waiter.. and he was freaking funny XDD

  • @ladymalbec Because he's awesome. 'Nuff said. ;)

  • Jim Henson and Jim Henson doing harmony, there at the end.. *sighs* I love it. XD

  • @sparklegrl0713 And when Rowlf starts scatting, it's actually *three* Henson vocals at once.

  • @mdumas43073 OMG, you're right!!! Good call!!!

  • funny both are jim henson

  • fuckin' classic. so wise.

Never have I seen a guy so green have the blues so bad.

  • @csasba Yeah!

  • lol its pretty funny seeing a muppet talk about drinking a few beers...that would never fly today

  • @mikexlong muppets were never ment for kids... it was ment for an adult audience

  • @LoveHamir well adults AND kids actually. nowadays it's meant mostly for kids.

  • @mikexlong= Those pc jackasses. As Sam the Eagle would say, they are all weirdos.

  • @mikexlong leave it to jim henson to make a show and movies about puppets for adult, yet still kid friendly

  • @66SonicFan1 well ya know having friendly animal puppets always helps lol

  • @mikexlong even when i waas 5 i knew what most of the adult shows where with my family we know about most adult jokes and other things at 5 you don't learn till you 13 15

  • @mikexlong idiot

  • @mikexlong Which is why the Muppets will never be as good as they once were. Back in the day, they were targeted at Teens and Adults, but today there's a stigma that they're for kids.

  • @mikexlong sure it would. This movie wasn't made for just kids, any more than the Muppet Show was. It was for everybody, adults included. That's what made it so great. Sesame Street was awesome, so was Fraggle Rock, but The Muppet Show was his masterpiece.

  • @mikexlong When people could be comfortable talking about real life.

    Even the Muppets. :T

  • Great song, GREAT movie! :-)

  • Hahha
