They all look like idiots compared to the way their grandfathers dressed for this parade. They simply can't invent anything that can compete with the marvelous costumes of early to mid 1900's so they pretend that they don't care for elegance anymore. Oh my, I better go watch Easter Parade with Fred and Judy.
PS I'm 21, just in case someone thought I'm an old fart.
@turetskygambit How right you are. When i saw the link for this i was excited because i was just watching the Easter Parade On the Perry Como and Lawrence Welk show. I thouht it would be like that. You are right, they all look like idiots. They are insulting the easter parade and that fat fart saying 'Alleged Resurrection' What the heck is wrong with this modern PC crowd. BTW i am not an old fart but in my 20s. I too fell like watching LW and Perry Como and Fred and Judy. Not this trash.
ALLEGED RESURRECTION? Listen, Mr. Babblings! There was a Resurrection! Jesus didn't just rise from the dead; he DESTROYED it! Get your frigging facts straight!

The hat at 2:23 was my favorite. Oh the guy from 3:35 I think was from Kids in the Hall, Kevin McDonald, or maybe a lookalike. Usually I can just open another browser and just listen to the video bloggers speak, but I could not miss this one. Your video was fantastic, hence the name.
Thanks, Phil, for this wonderful videographic memory of a really swell day. I'm the "Noel Coward guy" at the end. I wasn't specifically trying to look like him (that day), but I really appreciated your astute observations. And thanks for the plug, too!(wanna be my agent??) Hopefully, "I'll See You Again"!
Best always, Gregory (and, to the more sensitive viewer, while several animals were killed during the making of this picture, the coat's from 1928, so I had nothing to do with it, I swear!).
I and my friends have all faced the struggle of being an independent artist. I am happy to give a plug when I can. And I hope some day to see you perform. Or as Noel said, "I'll see you again."
That was far more fun than I anticipated, thank you! But it's a darn good thing you did the audio editing when you did; I'm pretty sure Time-Warner owns that song and you don't want to tangle with those SOBs. The last woman was great, but I think I saw her lips move.
It was fun. It would have been more fun if I had been able to include this man leading the whole crowd in singing Easter Parade. It looked like it was an annual tradition for him to do this. But alas, I did worry that it would be pulled for copyright infringement. The DMCA needs to be seriously revised.
And oh, yes, I wondered for a moment if reading lips and getting the lyrics was a violation. Absurd, but absurder things have happend.
A . . . I just pictured a Tranny dancing on top of the bar at The Pyramid Club to the beat of The Village People's "YMCA," with her arm movements spelling out "DMCA."
Oh wow - people really get into it, don't they?? We wore shorts and Hawaiian shirts for our Easter dinner and felt fancy with the good china and champagne. Those folks are so creative and funny and seriously cool!!!!!!!
that was such great footage. i had no idea about this tradition... and what a fun one. i'm so glad it didn't rain on your parade b/c it looks like a lot of people put a lot of work into their hats.
It was a perfect day. The sun was bright and the colors were vibrant. This has been going on for 150 years. There is even an old movie about it, "Easter Parade" with Judy Garland and Fred Astaire.
Oh well, then, I am going to have to find a Golden Girls tie-in for you somewhere down the road.
I think Irving would have been fine, but you know the estates get greedy, and while you should be able to tape people singing "Easter Parade" at the Easter Parade, the DMCA says you better not (esp. since I have two strikes. yikes!)
Yes indeed. There has been an Easter Parade on Fifth Avenue since the mid 1800s. It was never a formal parade; they just close the street down and people are free to parade around to show off their outfits and bonnets. Over the years it has become somewhat campy, but other than the evolution in attitude, it is pretty much what it has been for 150 years, which I find reassuring.
Did I hear Beverly Bly? It sure sounded like her saying the parade was "very classy." If you had just turned the camera you might have caught her all decked out for the the Easter proceedings!
I ran into Bev there. She was with Madge. Bev had a lovely pink had with pink sex toys protruding from it. She declined to appear on camera though as she was a little puffy from allergies.
It apparently is right before some apocalypse. The man with the leaflets and warnings iformed us that the world was going to burst in flames in three days (that's tomorrow!)
I can't put a link in comments but if you go to nycstreetfairs dot com and scroll down to August, you will see a schedule of Street Fairs. Not exactly the same as this, but interesting anyway.
omg its like you took us through 3 different time zones!, id love to have been 'in' with the hippy crowd, only maybe without the excessive drug useage :p lmao, 'noels' costume was amazing! maybe a little too hot though lol, i am glad to see the people of newyork have taken mr carlins words into consideration, someday we'll all have hats, haha only i dont think he was thinking this extreme! wonderful to see you again! (in the video...i wasnt spying ¬¬)
I don't believe in excessive drug usage either. Just the right amount of drug usage for me. The Noel Coward-y costumes were a bit heavy, but there is still a chill in the air here. It was an entertaining day and very colorful.
I had the combo. Onion soup (the cheese was cooked to a deep brown), salad, bread (delicious), Vin a table (blanc), and chocolate mousse for $16.95. You can't beat it.
lol...how interesting! Looked like a fun day....its good to see people get out like that! Dress up and express themselves in the way they do! Thnx so much for sharing!
I'm so glad you posted this. No matter how much I know it in my head, I had forgotten how vibrant NYC was. No wonder you love to live there. You must talk to new people every day Phil :) How beautiful. - John
I must say, what a sobering and saddening moment to hear the volume being shut off because some were singing an a song that infringes on copyrights. I think AOL/Time Warner own the copyrights to Happy Birthday. Would cost $10,000 to be able to use it in a film. So this is sobering because I still cannot get used to the notion that by posting a video here with people singing, were are in effect as bad as those using an antenna to broadcast a worldwide signal as a pirate radio/television station.
Isn't it absurd? I understand YouTube's position, but I think the law is out of sync with the times. Even the monetized videos make so little money per video that it is silly to make such a fuss. I wish they could make a deal with ASCAP and BMI and put an end to this insanity.
