  • i choke up everytime i hear hayley sing this. she does it so beautifully

  • Uma das mais belas vozes do mundo!

    Love Hayley, magic voice!!!

  • 20 people can only see things from 1 side.... :( well sung Hayley :)

  • 19 People have too much wax in their ears :-)

  • Très belle version.

  • Of course I like it. I'm a fan of both Joni ans Hayley. I think Hayley's version of this song is as good as Judy Collins' . All of them dignified Joni's creation.

  • @laibanez Try listening to the Dave Van Ronk version. Might be the best, if there is such a thing as the best. It's certainly good.

  • Beautiful!

  • Lovely voice, this lass - Every song she sings. xxx

  • Wow! what a turn for Hayley sounds great!

  • Not bad, even though guitar dude missed most of the chords. Judy's rendition was much more intense.

  • Hey... She CAN sing!!! Wonderful voice...

  • Wow, Hayley's amazing

  • Thank you Hayley, you make listening magic, and watching heavenly. GOD BLESS.

  • Even here in Canada we think you are the best - Saskatoon likes you Hayley

  • One of the best versions of this GREAT song. I love Hayley!

  • Perfect pitch & such a Doll !

  • I would like her to do some Carpenter's songs.

  • Beautiful. The style suits her well.

  • omg I'M OBSESSED.

  • Angleic voice. All of her song are worth hearing. Being in her concert was a marvelos experience. Her fan from Kaohsiung. Taiwan.

  • I like when she does these down to earth songs, but still sounds heavenly. She's my favorite singer :)

  • beautiful.

  • woderful from JAPAN

  • @JAPANJR7GPJ すばらしいね!

  • This is very pretty.

Her voice may be better then Joni's, but, I don't feel the meaning of the song when she sings it. Singer songwriters have the advantage when they sing their own songs. It's supposed to be bittersweet not happy.

  • Very Nice version of this classic Joni Mitchell Number.

  • She is an angel whatewer she is singing is beautiful, maybe differerent from the original , but her voice makes it different , makes it angelic.

  • is it just me, or does this song remind me of THE OUTSIDERS?

  • Better voice than Joni Mitchell by far!

  • You have brought a tear to my eye n the same way that Joni did 30 years ago. This is an amazing rendition of this beautiful Joni Mitchell song. Hayley sings it with a wonderful freshness and adds a little bit of her own dimention to it. This has got to be one of the best covers of the song I have ever heard - fantastic Hayley.

  • beautiful

  • perhaps the very best sung, however, not the best version i've heard. judy collins and englebert humperdink get that priviledge.

  • Hayley Westenra is very good for her age. She'll improve her song interpretation and stage presence as she matures.

  • most of her songs are sacred, religious sounding. I wish she'd use her voice for more catchy, melodic music.

  • @whowantstogetnaked Its because her voice lends itself to that style of music,I mean could you see her singing somthing like,Stand By Your Man,by Tammy Winette?or Hit With your Best Shot by Pat Benatar?

  • @TheKraitman i could see her singing celine dion. mariah carey. besides many other artists. she can generally speaking sing pop, classical as she does sometimes, jazz defenitely.. she has brilliant voice.

  • Hayley has a way with this classic, brings a lump to me everytime I hear her sing this song, Hayley is the most welcome SINGER in ages.........AND SHE SINGS!!!!!!

  • It's a nice version, although the guitar is a bit of a strange key; which is maybe why some don't like it. Her voice is lovely though, and with different backing...

  • Aweful! Joni's version is the best!

  • not a scratch on joni

  • it's a nice take on a classic!

  • Was just remembering this song and found her WOW she is GREAT

  • This song is a great fit for Hayley, Very lovely! She takes the folk song out of it and adds a classical flair, I love it!

  • Great version ♥

  • I like this the best of Hayley Westenra. Thank you. :)

  • WOW, how beautiful was that, love Haley.

  • hayley's down right hot.

  • A very classic version - love it!

  • I like this arrangement of the song. the violin really adds to it.

  • wow, such a lovely song sung by a lady with a velvet voice, a real pleasure.

  • she's great. a reallife angel on earth.

  • dont know what to say , wow .

  • Always said New Zealand was a great country. Must be to produce this girl.

  • although she sings it not bad but i don't think that someone could do it better than joni because of her emotional story :)

  • all i can say is wow, her voice is made for a song like this thanks for posting

  • I grew up with Joni's original, Hayley does this song justice, as she does with everything she sings. She has the sweetest voice ever.

  • she tears me up with the way she sings this song, very beautiful.......find roger whittaker's version of this song and no other male can sing this song . i love haley;s version...there is emotion there.

  • What a sweet sweet voice ! She's really a gift from God to New Zealand and even the world !!

  • Very good, but forty years ago (roughly)Joni Mitchell did the original and definitive version. That's the one to hear.

  • If you cannot realize that this girl has a rare and gifted talent then you should consider commenting on something else

  • The one I heard from the past of Michell was when she was oldr and it stunk..Mostly I love her but that song wasn't hers..No offense..

  • SHE DID A BETTER JOB THEN jONI MITCHELS CRACKED VOICE DID..

  • @bartskid1 except she doesnt have anywhere near the emotion of joni mitchell

  • This has to be a tough song to sing! I like Haley's cover!

  • A nice version, but I prefer Judy Collins' interpretation. And although Joni Mitchell wrote it, I have never cared for her.

  • Hayley sings this song well, and it carries a different meaning to those who hear based on their experiences. Hayley is young and has a fresh outlook, although I am sure she has had a number of ups and downs by now. The message of the song is even though we have all of this experience, we still don't know life, nor do we know love... at all. After a life of failed relationships we can, along with Ray, sing "A Song for You."

  • @applet93 I prefer orla fallon's version myself, but the message doesn't change

  • She does have a beautiful voice. That being said, it is not at all suited to this song. It's a nice but emotionless rendition of a song that should express love, disappointment, happiness, and bafflement with the ups and downs of life and its major events.

Joni Mitchell doesn't have the best voice, but sings this song as if she actually means it (which, by the way, funny thing, since she's the songwriter).

  • @prajna8 Finally, someone who understands. Thank you.

  • shes' just having a little fun with a song that has some sort or meaning for HER. Don't be so stiff all the time.

  • I agree. . .the recorded version's ensemble is much much better. Has anyone ever posted the recorded version on youtube? I'm thinking of posting it. :D

  • Yeah there's actually a music video for this. I've seen it on here before. Should still be up.

  • There is no such thing as "should" in art.

  • flabala45:

You go and listen to Judy Collins and Neil Diamond. I'll rather listen to Hayley.

  • My favorite version of this song.

  • She has this great, bright crisp happy voice much like Petula Clark. I love the way she does this song.

  • awesome

  • i absolutely love this song and her take on it! lovely.

  • Peculiar6:

    Are you Hayley's manager/producer?

  • where was this??

  • @FunKiMUnK3y This is from Hayley's first concert in Wellington, New Zealand. The whole concert is available on DVD.

  • the first time I heard this song was about 30 years ago. The singer was Euson (also on YouTube). I never heard a better version than his, but that is personal of course. A matter of taste. I also like Joni's version and Hayley's for that matter.

  • Man, the Music Gods really gave this one talent!

  • Very nice song. Different interpretation. Not sure that it conveys the same message, but I still love listening to Hayley's voice.

  • definitely an instant fav! her style and her voice are simply gorgeous :)

  • Lovely voice and she sings it ok, but I way prefer Joni Mitchell...the version used in 'Love Actually' is the best version of all...

  • I just love hayley, her voice is so... Pure.

  • Wonderful version of this humbling song. Reminds me of Cor13:12 "..For now we see in a mirror dimly.." It seems as we get older, the less certain we are of our accomplishments... the more we realize how little we trully know of life...we can only pray that God will .."confirm the work of our hands" Ps 90:17

  • Outstanding thank you so much! Hayley's version of this sweet song is outstanding!!! :)

  • lovely!!

  • What a sweet voice she is gifted, so awesome and gorgeous.

  • Wow, that was soo sweet! Love Hayley!

  • lol as if any of u can do better!! that's why we are watching her and not the other way around.

  • @cbrun67176 We can do better, our names are joni mitchell and judy collins =)

  • @cbrun67176 We can do better, our names are Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins =)

  • Lovely. Her voice is great and come on, Joni Mitchell? CLASSIC.

    (did someone call it pop?)

  • brotherjohn25:

Hayley will sing what she chooses. It's her voice, her career. You don't like it, just move on.

  • ricadia-

    You are tone deaf.

  • nice! i want her to cover the slow version of the song now :D

  • that's so sweet XD Hayley is an international rising star and I believe she's gonna make herself the brightest.

  • This cover is a-m-a-z-i-n-g! A VERY good performance from Haley, and her voice is excellent! =)

  • That's a Judy Collins Cover.....

    Haley is SPECTACULAR !

  • Wasn't it a Joni Mitchell record originally? Or am I just being a bit dim?

  • Yes Joni did it first....Let me stand corrected,Joni wrote and sang "Both Sides Now" Prior to Judy Singing it and Making it a well known song...

Gotta love all three gals and their own special versions! Timeless....

  • Joni Mitchell wrote it.

  • I've loved Hayley from the frfist time I saw her and that voice it's angelitic

  • thank you for sharing such a ovely cover beautiful voice and music

  • She can sing soooo well ^^

    Love her!

  • Her voice is amazing....!

    I love her........

  • She's fabulouss!!

  • I Love this song SOOOOO MUCH!!! i never new it was a cover. regardless hayley has made me love this song. I love her voice so much!!!! shes amazing!!!! thanks for posting this!!!!

  • She has a sweet voice that I never met.

  • I like hayley singing this song. I like her voice very soothing...but I watched sharon cuneta's both sides now and I liked her version too.

  • how old is hayley??

  • 17 when this was recorded. She's now 21 and will turn 22 in April.

  • beautiful voice ^^ love her

  • I love Hayley!

  • EXCELLENT!!

  • I could listen to her songs all day.

    Unfortunatley duty calls

  • Very nice.

I have listened to this sung by Mary Hopkin, a great singer from Wales at her live in Osaka Expo 1970. Her cover is too very nice.

Hayley is going to make tour concerts in Wales now and she will be greatly welcomed there I think.

  • This is one of my favourite songs. Hayley sings it amazingly. Such a beautiful voice and with so much feeling for one so young.

We saw her at the Shrewsbury Flower Show in August and it was like listening to an angel singing.

  • Prima! I can't wait until this young lady gets a few more life miles under her belt. Time will tell.

  • Possibly one of the most beautiful versions of a stunning song. Hayley has certainly done this song justice. Brings a tear to the eye.

    Thank you Nehomas

  • I think no one else deserve to sing this song more than Hayley. Judy Collins was too rush and hurry through it, making me want to say "slow down, take it easy" Joni Mitchell too struggling and hoarse, making me want to say, "OMG, come on, spit it out"

Hayley, on the other hand, makes it beautiful and effortless and a pleasure to hear.

Hayley deserves all the praises for a young voice like her. Fantastic!

  • hayley does a beautiful job gere. this is a joni mitchell song, and when you listen to Joni, from her first recordings to the one you speak of, recorded just before surgery on vocal polyps, you realise that creator of this captures best. Hayley is sweetness with a dash of wistful. the song is meant to echo life, with sweet, bitter, wistful and longing

  • love it :)

  • > Judy collins version has only been successfuly covered by Joni Mitchel.

What?!! Joni Mitchell *wrote* that song... Judy Collins is the cover! :-)

  • Hater?

  • Wow, she's got a great voice...but this is not a happy, upbeat song...wonder why she chose this arrangement?

  • It doesn't really have an upbeat sound to it, sure some parts do seem a bit fast, but the violin counters that from what I can see.

  • what does her voice have that other's don't? i'm just wondering.

i can't figure out that special something she has. she's amazing! i wish i could sing like her!

  • Totally gorgeous!!!! Both her and her voice.

  • Thankyou God for creating Hayley. She is the most beautiful singer with the most fantastic voice in the universe.

    Vu

  • i love love love this version!! hayleys just amazing.

  • I completely agree.

  • she is amazing i love Hayley. God did her good He gave her a beautiful voice and great career

  • Now that is music.

  • thanks for adding this...love it...

  • That voice...Indeed the most beautiful in the universe.

  • Hayley is the most beautiful singer in the universe. I am addicted to her singing and heavenly good look. I have watched this video so many times I lost count. Thankyou NEHOMAS so much for posting this. This is the best of Youtube.

    Vu

  • I love this version! Hayley is incredible!

  • Why have so few people heard about this girl? She's amazing!!!! And why is Britney Spears a successful recording artist, when voice like this exist?

  • Now that is a question for the ages. It truly is a shame that a person like Spears gets so much attention for the crap she pulls when someone with a beautiful voice like this exiat with a positive message to boot.

  • Hayley's music is for me well known, and she's from New Zealand and I am from Europe, but I explore, I search for good music, I do not just look what it's written in the charts. Britney is succesful, but for me not relevant enough to listen.

  • Cos Britney doesn't like underwear and will spread her legs on command. Hayley has morals, or at least keeps her vices to herself.

  • bah. This was actually a reply to beefmageditor

  • A big reason is the fault of the american audience and the (being kind here) slightly mediocre taste in music. When people start using the question "is it something good to dance to at a club" as their basis of "good music" then of course all the ones with actual talent are going to fall off to the side. With this frame of mind it then becomes easier to like a song that has less depth to it. On a side note I am American and I may be baised because I was raised on classical music, lol.

  • Elitist (being kind here) Snob

  • Yes, yes...Hayley should at least try to write her own songs...but it's also okay with covering other people's songs... Also... you can't compare Hayley with HEAVY OPERA singers! *nudge nudge!*

  • Hayley has writing credits on three songs on her latest CD - Let Me Lie, Summer Rain, Melancholy Interlude.

  • And thats great!! But...she should try to write more. She doesn't seem to be TOO bad, but with more practice, she'll be great!

Either way, I LOVE her singing. I know people say she doesn't add emotion, but I think she does a WONDERFUL job singing them.

  • This is just a different style and another side ofher music that I hav'nt heard. I'm use to her singing with Celtic woman She 's good.

  • Uggh.. I really dont like this version. I think the best one was by Natalie Cole. But I love Hayley's other songs!
