There wasn't a winner of the series because teams played different kinds of sport. According canadians, hockey is a show, fight and some kind of men war. Russians consider the game as a sport only (and were punished for it in Vancouver). That's why there can't be a winner. Canadians will always lose in russian style of hockey, Russians will always lose in canadian style of hockey. Russians are an art-nation, they like beauty rather than strength. Ovechkin is mostly canadian guy, not Russian.
@TheKarenbash could you clarify why the russians couldnt play their own style of play... because it seems like its the same sport in both countries and one style beat the other style in a fair ,game with international rules (not like that should make a difference since most players on both sides are from the nhl so are used to that style anyways)...

This was the only time I'd seen Rod Gilbert fight. I think Mishakov was ready to take on the whole Canadian team at the time, after getting his face bloodied. He was fit to be tied. Great moment in the greatest hockey series ever.
It's a shame how Canada won that series because of Clarke slash on kharlamov's ankle,,,it was a cheapshot and barbaric hockey display on behalf of Clarke and on the assistant coach ferguson, if Kharlamov was 100 percent the russians would have won that series,,,kharlamov displayed skill and creativeness in that series that mesmerized hockey fans to this day.
Apparently, according to Eagleson in game 6 Kharlamov scored a goal that hit the inner mesh but the goal judge did not see it and so that game would have ended in a tie. If it had been seen the series would have ended in a tie (3 wins each and 2 ties).
Its funny watching old fights from the 60s and 70s. There was no "code" or rules that fighters followed. They were just athletes who got angry and just fought any way they could, it was a free-for-all.
