if michael phelps didnt not swim Ryan Lochte would have is spot as the so called "best olympian ever". if ask me i think that michael phelps is great there is no doubt about that but is he the best??? no b/c medals, trophies, money and other things dont make the athlete. the only reason they say he is to great is b/c he won 8 gold medals and broke so many records its RIDICULOUS! if all of the other swimmers got this reconition, ppl wouldnt just kno michael phelps they would kno the rest.

well i do agree with part of what you are saying.. yer right, IF there never existed a "Michael Phelps" I would have to say the Lochte would be the best American swimmer we have as well world renown. You mean 8 Gold Medals from one olympics. He has 15 total. Also, I recall a Bronze and possibly a silver? Can't remember. Michael swam in 3 olympics already. 2000, 2004, and 2008

For the record:

Phelps won 14 Olympic medals. 8 Gold in 2008 6 Gold and 2 Bronze in 2004. He also came 5th at the 2000 Olympics in 200 Fly at 15.
