Holy crap, that is the stupidest thing I've seen. The only thing the bionic hand did was hold the other end of the tie while his real hand did everything. I mean I could cut off my hand and duck tape close pins to my stump and still do what he did! LAME!
The thing is, most prosthetic hands suck at doing that.
And you wouldn't have voluntary control over the clothespins. you'd have to Take extra time to open them. HOURS OF LIFE WASTED! DON'T DO THAT TO YOURSELF!
Wow ... impressing technology. i hope soon more people will benefit from this development. Well... till something like that will reach germany, years will pass

If you actually go to the companies website (in the info bar) you'll see it actually is pretty advanced. Bearing in mind the hand is triggered by nerve signals and the thumb can move into different positions to allow a range of grips it really is quite a step up from hooks and other prosthetic hands. The hand actually controls the strength of the grip so that delicate objects like eggs can be picked up without breaking. I'd advise looking at the range of videos on the website.
Not sure why some of the above comments have been voted down. What they said is spot on considering the video's title proclaims the prosthetic as "the world's most advanced."
That's exactly what the iLimb is. I fail to see why people are amazed by them. So the fingers move individually. Yet it can't perform any complicated movements or grasps. I'm sorry, but a basic body-powered hook looks like a better option. It may not look much like a hand, but isn't the idea to restore function? I would go with a fully functional tentacle before I get an iLimb...
not exactly a complex function displayed

This video is 4 years old. Might explain why it's not as advanced as a robotic arm.

Woah!! It looked just like a real hand!!

Awesome technology but the video was pretty useless...all he was doing was holding the tie
Ovidius777 3 years ago
yeah, ill actually be umpressed when it can fold the tie instead of hold it

Yep, howabout a sword fight or some sort of armwrestling.

.... this is true, I have my 2 hands but I'm not able to make ribbon on ties....
matmat94 3 years ago
I've check the site, it seems pretty advance, but the camera should be closer to the hand because all I see is a machine that just opens and close.
dinmagic 3 years ago
yep, the camera kinda sucked...

Video is too dark, nor does this demonstrate the full capabilities of the hand.

The left or the right one? :)

you're comparing it to a real hand which not suprisingly it cannot compare to.
try comparing it to NOTHING which is what an amputee has to use and it's an amazing step up

this guy must be dumb to put this shit on. might as well use a hook to tie that thing if your only gonna use one hand to do all the work

please tell me it's his left hand that's the prosthetic hand... The right hand is no better at tying a a very short tie than, say, a clamp...?
Nizzler1 4 years ago 2
i don't doubt this hand rocks, but in this vid it's just a very expensive clamp. one close, one open, thats it
