@dontbanwarren and in any case legality isn't the main point. The point is what is happening to the slow loris because of the pet (& other) trade: endangerment, & appalling suffering. Truly gruesome. Teeth scissored out. Young taken from mothers too soon so they die. Stuffed into tiny cages, the wires tearing at their very sensitive hands. Starved. Cut in half, alive, for medicine. etc. Watch BBC Natural World Jungle Gremlins of Java, here on YouTube. Lots of slow loris footage and good info.
@dontbanwarren actually, the pet trade is illegal worldwide. In some countries it is legal to own a primate, IF you own a special CITES permit (unlikely) .In 2007 CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) elevated slow lorises to Appendix I: trade in wild-caught specimens of these species is illegal. It's virtually impossible to breed these animals in captivity. NO slow loris has been legally brought into Russia. So... ahem, how did they get there?
@lauragreener122 actually you might not want it. They smell very bad, have a venomous bite (which is why most of them have their teeth yanked our scissored out for the pet trade, no anesthetic), are nocturnal, often die in captivity and rarely breed in captivity, even in the best circumstances. And the pet trade is illegal. Watch BBC Natural World Jungle Gremlins of Java, here on YouTube. Lots of slow loris footage and good info.
@ThePvtPeaceful thanks. This particular video seems to attract a lot of people - I suppose it's all those exclamation marks. I'm trying to get the uploader to post a link to the documentary in her description, but so far no luck.
@TheGreenLittleFrog you might just resuscitate yourself if you watch the BBC documentary about these animals. It's just about as uncute as you can imagine. - BBC Natural World, Jungle Gremlins of Java, here on YouTube
This trade in selling Slow Loris's in illegal and results in the barbaric treatment of the animal. This is not "cute" or "Funny" or "Sweet" - if you really think they are lovely look at the Born Free Website (and search for Slow Loris)
@CherubAgent1997 you probably don't want any! They smell, have a powerfully toxic bite, are nocturnal, frequently die in captivity, & the pet trade is not only illegal but directly contributes to the endangerment and gruesome suffering of the slow loris. If you don't believe me watch BBC Natural World, Jungle Gremlins of Java, here on YouTube - fast forward to about 45 mins if you can't be bothered to watch it all.
@UglynerdMan the trouble is that if the rainforest goes, it will directly affect the stability of our climate and will undermine the valuable services provided by biological diversity. It means that important chemicals that could be used for medical purposes will be lost, and very possibly the stability of our ecosystem as a whole will be threatened. And, in any case, these animals do not do at all well in captivity in the best of circumstances, and almost never breed.
@thefatecontrol you probably don't want any! They smell to high heaven, have a powefully toxic bite, are nocturnal, frequently die in captivity, & the pet trade is not only illegal but directly contributes to the endangerment and suffering of the slow loris. @Punkrock3011@antares1991@JuneRadkeMcCoy yeah, I know, it's so cute, that's what I thought too! Then I went & found out a little more about these creatures. Broke my heart. If you don't believe me watch BBC Natural World, Jungle Gremlins of Java, here on YouTube - fast forward to about 45 mins if you can't be bothered to watch it all, but it's a good doc.
@Dunskaroo sadly not. This loris is the same one in a plethora of Japanese uploaded YouTubes, clearly a pet if you look closely. Japan is one of the worst offenders in the illegal pet trade - they love small 'cute' pets.
If you think this animal looks like an adorable pet... remember they smell to high heaven, have a toxic bite, are nocturnal, frequently die in captivity, and the pet trade is not only illegal but directly contributes to the endangerment and suffering of the slow loris. If you don't believe me watch BBC Natural World, Jungle Gremlins of Java, here on YouTube - fast forward to about 45 mins if you can't be bothered to watch it all.
@DansarJensen God thanks for saying that so people can see, I watched that show in college earlier and it was depressing so sad that people cause suffering to animals just so they can have a cool pet.
@armos4eva1 this video is disliked not because of the amazingly cute animal, but because of the real story behind pet slow lorises. It's actually appalling. They have their teeth yanked out with pliers or scissored out with no anesthetic, they often die in captivity even in the best situations, & rarely breed. The pet trade - this one is in Japan, one of the worst offenders - is illegal & directly contributes to their endangerment. Watch Natural World Jungle Gremlins of Java, here on YouTube.
looks kinda like the lil creature on madagascar movie...not the one that likes to move it move it, but the small one that always attaches to the king lemurs legs :))
Will be interesting to see once humanity has killed, eaten & destroyed every living thing on the planet...what then?? Hopefully those bastards will start killing & eating themselves.
@TrueMinecrafter I'm not sure you do want one! They smell to high heaven, have a toxic bite, are nocturnal, frequently die in captivity, and the pet trade is not only illegal but directly contributes to the endangerment and suffering of the slow loris. If you don't believe me watch BBC Natural World, Jungle Gremlins of Java, here on YouTube - fast forward to about 45 mins if you can't be bothered to watch it all.
@kim16123 what is so sad is that slow lorises rarely survive once re introduced into the wild. We don't know why yet. So we have to try and stop the illegal trading of these animals for pets or traditional medicine use. Did you see the BBC doc? BBC Natural World, Jungle Gremlins of Java, here on YouTube. You can help save this animal by going to Facebook and joining the Little Fireface project and writing there your concerns about the animal.
@xXPorcelaindreamXx Of course,it surely asking you to take him back home...in its natural environment not forced to be cuddle by humans stupidity!!!!!
@gryphonlover13 and anyone who thinks this animal is in a 'nursery' or shelter, go take a look at the videos uploaded by @monnkichi2 . Note the wire cages. Slow lorises have a special network of blood vessels in their hands and feet, which makes them vulnerable to cuts from such wire cages. I urge you to watch the BBC doc, here on YouTube 'Natural World, Jungle Gremlins of Java.' Then come and help spread facts, not misinformation.
@gryphonlover13 This animal is the same one in a plethora of Japanese YouTubes of slow lorises, clearly a pet. Japan is one of the biggest offenders in the illegal pet trade which directly contributes to their extinction & extreme suffering. Slow Lorises, so far, cannot be reintroduced to the wild after being captured, even if treated well in captivity. They die. It's not known why yet, but Dr. Anna Nekaris & her team are working hard to find out. Stop spreading misinformation about this video.
@martis999 It is NOT mistreatment of the animal. Yes, it is endangered, but they're not keeping it as cruelty. It's an animal shelter and it has just came out of surgery, so they're only keeping it until it'll have enough strength to survive on its own.
Geez. I just can't fathom how so many people can see something like feeding it or seeing a cat examine a frog as "animal cruelty".
@gryphonlover13 You're missing the point - I'd have no problem is this video is put up with an explanation of the status of the animal and the difficulties the species has because people see it as a 'cute' pet. But no, it's put up because the animal is cute with big eyes - encouraging some idiots out there that this is a desirable pet and helping perpetuating the trade in these unfortunate creatures!
@rosefarha isn't it. Did you see the documentary? The saddest thing I ever saw. Fast forward to about 45- 50 mins. Awful (Natural World, Jungle Gremlins of Java - here on YT)
@Jcthefluteman and how do you know this? The video is the same one as is uploaded by a Japanese uploader, who clearly owns this loris. They are very popular in Japan - 'handbag' pets - which is the worst offender for smuggling these animals from Indonesia and elsewhere. (@lmprimconserve )
Although they look raly cute, these animals are NOT good pets. They are toxic, nocturnal and smell very very bad. In addition they are an endangered animal and are illegally taken from their natural habitats to be sold on the blackmarket. To make things worse, to make them safer for their new owners, they have their teeth ripped out with pliers so they cannot bite. Then when they are no longer wanted as pets they cannot be returned to the wild as they have no teeth to feed or defend themselves
@mariachen2001 Ihr Leiden wegen der Tierhandel bringt Tränen in meine Augen. Sehen Sie dieses Dokumentarfilms: BBC Jungle Gremlins of Java: youtube.com/watch?v=dhpw7UqTVnI.
I'd prefer to see this animal in the jungle where it belongs! The Jungle Gremlins of Java (a vid here on Youtube) shows how bad it is to keep these as pets. Watch the last 10mins of it if you're thinking of getting one. You might change your mind!
@4wheelerDJ yes, aren't they? It's why I'm doing my best to help save them from cruelty and extinction! Did you watch the documentary? It's very good, lots of footage of slow lorises and Dr. Anna Nekaris is unusual for a scientist, young, engaging and appealing. BBC Natural World: Jungle Gremlins of Java - it's here on YouTube.
@projectvenusblake and what about breeding? The best zoos in the world, with expert care, cannot breed & keep these animals. By the time you've figured all that out they will become extinct.
@beethovensfifth5 you probably don't want one, they smell to high heaven, have a very toxic bite, are nocturnal, require highly specialized feeding (do you want to keep live tropical bugs and worms and grow poisonous plants?), They have a special network of blood vessels in their hands and feet, which makes them vulnerable to cuts from the wire cages they are kept in and other items in people's homes. Watch BBC Natural World: Jungle Gremlins of Java - it's here on YouTube.
One day we will splice their genes to remove their toxic bite, research them intensively to discover what their functional food would consist of and make that food. Then they shall be pet material, and everyone will have one, because they're so god damn cute.
This is a video of an endangered animal that is not suitable for captivity. They frequently die in captivity, rarely breed. Because they look so cute and they are small, they are very popular ias pets, particularly in Japan and Russia. However the pet trade is illegal, and directly contributes to their extreme suffering. Please watch here on YouTube Natural World, Jungle Gremlins of Java. Please help educate people about the plight of this animal.
Trade for traditional medicines & for pets is the slow loris' greatest immediate threat. Many destined for pets have their teeth removed by wire cutters, nail clippers, pliers, an often fatal process.
It is extremely cruel to treat nocturnal primates in such a way and to keep them as pets. Slow lorises are endangered and their illegal pet trade is criminal! Whoever thinks this funny or just a bit of a laugh, please watch this video for more information!
@lmprimconserve Dude! Relax! It's not meant to be funny, nobody's laughing at it. I've seen the full video - they're not keeping it cruelly, it's an animal shelter and it's just come out of surgery.
@jackor1888 you probably don't want one of these. They are endangered, the pet trade is illegal and they are not pet material. They have a very toxic bite, the toxin is produced by licking a gland on their arm, and the secretion mixes with its saliva to activate it. This is why many pet lorises have had their teeth yanked or scissored out. They often die from this procedure and rarely do well in captivity. They smell, are nocturnal, and have a highly specialized diet...
i think its really mean you all genetically modified this creature to not be able to have eyelids anymore. how do our little furry friends even sleep anymore?

@rosefarha isn't it. Did you see the documentary? The saddest thing I ever saw. Fast forward to about 45- 50 mins. Awful (Natural World, Jungle Gremlins of Java - here on YT)
DansarJensen 3 days ago
@Jcthefluteman and how do you know this? The video is the same one as is uploaded by a Japanese uploader, who clearly owns this loris. They are very popular in Japan - 'handbag' pets - which is the worst offender for smuggling these animals from Indonesia and elsewhere. (@lmprimconserve )

So that thing is real huh? thought it was just another DreamWorks conspiracy...
totally cute! but a little creepy

This video is not cute, this animal is suffering under the bright lights, they are nocturnal and should not be kept as pets.

It's ANYTHING but cute. This thing is hideous, leave it in the jungle where it was found

DansarJensen 4 days ago
@projectvenusblake and what about breeding? The best zoos in the world, with expert care, cannot breed & keep these animals. By the time you've figured all that out they will become extinct.
DansarJensen 4 days ago

PLEASE TAKE THIS VIDEO DOWN!

Jcthefluteman 3 days ago
@jackor1888 you probably don't want one of these. They are endangered, the pet trade is illegal and they are not pet material. They have a very toxic bite, the toxin is produced by licking a gland on their arm, and the secretion mixes with its saliva to activate it. This is why many pet lorises have had their teeth yanked or scissored out. They often die from this procedure and rarely do well in captivity. They smell, are nocturnal, and have a highly specialized diet...
